I wish I remembered more about this ricin plotline. I thought Jesse knew that Brock wasn't poisoned by ricin?

Maybe the hug didn't comfort Jesse, but that doesn't mean it wasn't in part intended to. If Walt was as one-note dastardly as this thread seems to read him, the show would be pretty lousy. For me the hug is powerful because he really could kill Jesse AND because he really loves him, really does have some compassion left.....

hadrian: exactly!
xp not until the season was over - he still remembers it was the missing cigarette that triggered his freakout

the hug is powerful because he really could kill Jesse AND because he really loves him, really does have some compassion left... Yes, that mixture is so volatile, incl. because he uses and is pulled by the actual compassion and concern for his family (which even still extends to refusing Saul's suggestion re sending Hank to Mikeland, cos Hank is family dammit, and may have something to do with his coming back, in flash-forwards---think Cranston said Gilligan said "He has to protect someone"---though when asked about that, Gilligan said it could change)

i wanted jesse to hug saul instead of walt
― cerealbar, Monday, 26 August 2013 14:16 (twelve years ago)
i thought the vacuum cleaner guy wasn't coming at all. I figured walt via saul would send someone to show up and pop him.
"Chrissie's been in an accident and is hurt in the hospital. I'm going to send Sil to come pick you up."

if you love someone you dont kill them to protect yr criminal interests is pretty much a good rule of thumb

sometimes, love just makes it easier to kill someone

Yet each man kills the thing he loves,By each let this be heard,Some do it with a bitter look,Some with a flattering word,The coward does it with a kiss,The brave man with a sword! Some kill their love when they are young,And some when they are old; Some strangle with the hands of Lust,Some with the hands of Gold:The kindest use a knife, becauseThe dead so soon grow cold. Some love too little, some too long,Some sell, and others buy; Some do the deed with many tears,And some without a sigh:For each man kills the thing he loves,Yet each man does not die.”

walt had saul take the ricin cigarette so he could convince jesse that gus stole it to poison brock and drive a wedge between walt and jesse when in fact walt had poisoned brock using lily of the valley ugh this whole plotline is so convoluted
― this gtr climbed mt. washington (Edward III), Monday, 26 August 2013 16:46 (twelve years ago)
TBF it sounds more convoluted than it actually was... Gus was already driving a wedge between Walt and Jesse (Jesse was cooking alone at this point in the superlab), Walt did this to make it look like Gus was "going too far" and to convince Jesse that Gus had to be killed, since Walt was likely to get killed by Gus sooner than later
― Nhex, Monday, 26 August 2013 16:49 (twelve years ago)
yeah I'm a little bummed they brought it back to center stage
― what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 26 August 2013 16:50 (twelve years ago)
Man that video was such a sweet move.
― polyphonic, Monday, 26 August 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)
(xpost) agreed. obviously gonna remain center stage too, Walt going back to get the ricin is the main plot point of the flash forward so far.
― dmr, Monday, 26 August 2013 16:55 (twelve years ago)
yeah I mean I've said this a bunch of times since it became a thing but last night was my whole complaint at the forefront, when hoarse Jesse yells THE RICIN CIGARETTE like the existence of some poison is giant deal, who's gonna get poisoned, who's the poison for - as a way of Jesse understanding "oh, that whole 'Gus poisoned Brock' thing was bullshit" it's ok if awkward but like...yo...there's lot of poisons people can take, THE RICIN CIGARETTE is kinda...like why? Super-chemist Walter White could doubtless work up plenty of comparable shit in the bathroom of a Texaco if necessary.
Calling it now, show ends with Walt finishing breakfast somewhere and lighting up a cigarette, and it turns out it's THE RICIN CIGARETTE and we understand that as he smokes it down to the butt, and half of us are like "great, the show ended like final season X-files stuff" and the other half are like "no, it's awesome, THE RICIN CIGARETTE, give the cigarette its own show"
― combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 26 August 2013 16:58 (twelve years ago)
yeah it was walt's attempt to get jesse back on his side and help him kill gus, but his story was that gus poisoned brock in order to completely turn jesse against walt
stay tuned for previews of next week's days of our ricin
xp to nhex
― this gtr climbed mt. washington (Edward III), Monday, 26 August 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)
while i would be bummed if the show vortexes around the ricin cigarette, I still wouldn't be "final season x-files" mad about it

idk, i kinda hope it makes hank want 2 murder walt rather than lock him up
― johnny crunch, Monday, 26 August 2013 17:32 (twelve years ago)
video confession was great, totally wrapped up that little problem nicely. also indicates why Hank is not that great a cop, cuz he didn't see it coming
― what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 26 August 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)
and in a way this really IS all Hank's fault, if only he hadn't taken Walt along on that ridealong, just to show off what an alpha-male he was
lol.

I agree with both parts of this. I wonder what Skyler was thinking while Walt was taping it though -- it had to be realization of even newer lower depths of his badness.
― cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 26 August 2013 17:35 (twelve years ago)
hank was totally ineffectual in getting jesse to talk but he did move jesse further down the path of seeing walt for what he is
tho obv not telling anyone at the DEA what's going on is going to be his downfall
― this gtr climbed mt. washington (Edward III), Monday, 26 August 2013 17:39 (twelve years ago)
The more fucked he gets, the more I think Hank is going to win.
― polyphonic, Monday, 26 August 2013 17:41 (twelve years ago)
I assume his ego wouldn't let him do it. He couldn't go to Gomez and say "oh hey Heisenberg is my bro-in-law!" w/out making himself look like a total idiot. also no real evidence.
Hank isn't gonna win. He has no way to win without Jesse or Skyyvodka
― what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 26 August 2013 17:42 (twelve years ago)
also, it's stupid and the show can get away w/ it, but i find it tuff 2 believe a dea agent being shot (on duty? i cant recall) would not have all their rehab covered by insurance
― johnny crunch, Monday, 26 August 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)
Are you a Canadian
― polyphonic, Monday, 26 August 2013 17:44 (twelve years ago)
yeah that plus the medical bills looks pretty bad. I forgot Hank didn't know about that. Receiving nearly $200K in drug profits is not a good look.
― dmr, Monday, 26 August 2013 17:45 (twelve years ago)
with the little time there is left i seriously doubt they're going to linger on the ricin/lily of the valley thing. Its a loose end that is tied up and is n ow just a catalyst for jesse coming after walt.
i wonder if hank will come into possession of the video the cartel made of jesse cooking. at the time he did mention to walt that the cops were doing clean up down there and theyd have more info later.
i wonder if the future m16 is for todd and the nazis.

would not have all their rehab covered by insurance
they made it clear that he could get some rehab on his insurance but not THE BEST rehab which is very plausible.
Its a loose end that is tied up and is n ow just a catalyst for jesse coming after walt.
nah the whole first scene of the season was Walt going into his messed up house just to get the ricin
― dmr, Monday, 26 August 2013 17:48 (twelve years ago)
Hank isn't telling anyone at the DEA because his former boss got fired for barbecuing fish on July 4th with Gus Fring. Also lets not forget that Hank had been told repeatedly over the last 3 or 4 seasons to quit the investigation and he blatantly went against orders. It was personal for him long before he even knew it was walt.
― "Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Monday, 26 August 2013 17:49 (twelve years ago)
According to a famous Hollywood legend, Alfred Hitchcock met Vince Gilligan at a dinner and simply kept saying, "Ah... the ricin cigarette!"
― first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 26 August 2013 17:50 (twelve years ago)
xp m60! little surprised how many people dont like the ricin thing, or couldnt follow it - i saw what was happening as soon as jesse noticed the weed was gone. i like this setup because it means a confrontation b/w walt and jesse that cant end in walt talking him down with his psycho mesmerizing powers again - it wont work this time pal!!!
― i wanna be a gabbneb baby (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 26 August 2013 17:50 (twelve years ago)
why would Todd/Nazis come after walt

well yeah. i meant jesses ricin cigarette switcharoo. the ricin itself has been around since season 2. lydia nearly scored a dose not so long ago iirc.

still want to know how walt actually poisoned brock. Did he hold a palmful of berries out to the kid at school and brock ate them through the fence like a deer in a petting zoo?
