I think based on what they did and the consequences of it that pretty much every time Jesse was in the office they'd be walking on eggshells

they've all consistently underrated Jesse though

When Jesse discovered the missing ricin cig last season, what made him think it was Walt behind the poisoning?

I thought Jesse had a replacement/facsimile, and that Huell stole that one too, on Saul's order, because Jesse couldn't be trusted with it (mainly if he committed suicide, as seems fairly likely, an autopsy report of *ricin*, so possible *terrorist* might stimulate penetration of new ID). And it turns out that AMC's recap of Season 5 pt. 1 incl. this:
Jesse, meanwhile, is preoccupied over the missing ricin cigarette. Walt agrees to help him look for it and stashes a fake in Jesse's Roomba, having hidden the real vial behind an outlet cover in his own bedroom.

So for it to go missing again, in this situation, was just too much of a coincidence--- and yeah, alreadyjesse was primed by the recent realization that walt was just 100% full of shit and psychopathic

there was no fake ricin, though, when Walt pretended the Roomba had picked it up he also pretended to flush it. And I was a little uneasy with Jesse epiphany too but on reflection I think it made sense, he had already suspected Walt of doing the poisoning before Walt weaseled out of it with the bullshit that Jesse now recognised in him. So the pieces fit.

is every episode this season going to end on a jesse cliffhanger? I didn't see that confession video coming at all.

these fake cliffhanger endings are somewhat uncharacteristic of BB (except for the wonderful "walt goin' crazy under the house because the money's gone!" classic)

yeah, they bugged me at first but now I'm kind of getting into the rhythm of it.

kinda unsatisfying thing that requires a depressed high dude to suddenly have a realization no? or no? idk I was just like "hold up how do you miraculously just get clarity on this just now"

daria is totes on point with this one. when jesse went over to kill walt after he found out brock had been poisoned walt says something like 'what am i supposed to have done?' and jesse recreates the entire story hitting the truth perfectly including huell lifting it. so yeah not THAT miraculous.

also I took the walt hugging jesse to mean okay you understand what im saying so i dont have to kill you. have a great time in alaska.

xp iirc there was a point before that happens where Walt goes to Jesse's house and blatantly tries to lift it but fails, they get into a shoving match, which i think tipped him off initally

while watching this latest ep, i was so sure jesse was going to pull out a gun and shoot himself when saul stepped out to get the moneybag. then when he was waiting, pre-pot missing realization, i thought the vacuum cleaner guy wasn't coming at all. I figured walt via saul would send someone to show up and pop him.

idk that Walt/Jesse hug kinda got to me

a) super creepy Walt with his Sociopathic-Dad-MO going in for the hug so he doesnt have to confirm or deny

b) Jesse stiff as a board crying like a little angry kid & just the longshot of him buckling at the knees

oh yeah of course it was super painful to watch jesse but i think part of his reaction was at last getting confirmation that walt killed mike and that walt wasnt the father figure he made himself out to be.

also i love how unimpressed Francesca looked through the whole jesse being the shit out of saul scene

the cigarette bit was nowhere near as improbable as you guys make it seem. jesse did not have a magical realization - he discovered a new pack of cigarettes that was not there before. it was huell!!!

huell is basically the varys of this show i'm thinking - just operating behind the scenes like a magical negro ogre wizard. he planted the new pack in jesse's pocket on his way out. i've been able to rewatch the episode and you can clearly see him putting something in jesse's pocket. for whatever mysterious reason, he wanted to change things up, and made sure jesse knew what had happened.

wanted to vote for him as my favorite character in that old poll, but voted for hank instead. still think hank/rocky has some gas left in him but right now i kind of wish i had voted huell after all

that said, huell may have done the cig-replanting thing on saul's orders. i wonder if, after seeing the hug of terror in the desert, saul had a change of heart and decided to become a player. i've been rewatching the cigarette replant - after huell plants it, he exchanges a knowing look with saul. that can't mean nothing.

i do wonder if saul is the long awaited father figure for jesse. he seems to... kind of actually care for him. can we talk about odenkirk shining brightest in that episode? we're used to laughing at him but he showed such humanity in that episode. makes me honestly optimistic for a spinoff.

damn. but why does saul call walter then? maybe huell just did this all on his own. still trying to figure out which character operates this specific deus ex machine.

pointless cliffhanger, we saw the house wasn't burnt up in flashforward last week

part of me wishes they'd gone the corny route of showing us flashbacks to elucidate jesse's revelation (i couldn't have been the only person watching it while on my iphone after drinking during the vmas) but honestly it didn't matter too much

and it wasn't really it was a cliffhanger. they know you saw the flashforward, it's an "oh shit, jesse did it" moment

but he did nothing. I want catharsis for the poor li'l bastard, not to have the rug snatched out from under him again when the show starts again

btw fennel is insane, huell just pockets the weed and doesn't go near the pocket that jesse's cigs are in

So: face-to-face w Walt in the desert, with a hug that was the opposite of comforting, plus making/being pressured into life-changing decision, plus sudden realization of pocket picked *again*, just as car rolls up to take him god knows where---yeah, seemed right that he would run, but I thought he would run away, not back to Saul. Though when he did, all that seemed plausible too.
So the flash-forwards don't indicate burn damage, but how is it avoided? Does Walt intervene? That part's a cliffhanger. Plus that we know he's gonna get away long enough to grow his hair out (no chemo?) and then come back, but how and why? Enough cliffs for me.

Walt shoots him. Calls Marie and says that she can pickup Flynn, so that he won't come home. Then removes the body and cleans up. Skylar is upset.

This show finally has me guessing and speculating, which I normally hate doing.

I wish I remembered more about this ricin plotline. I thought Jesse knew that Brock wasn't poisoned by ricin?

Maybe the hug didn't comfort Jesse, but that doesn't mean it wasn't in part intended to. If Walt was as one-note dastardly as this thread seems to read him, the show would be pretty lousy. For me the hug is powerful because he really could kill Jesse AND because he really loves him, really does have some compassion left.....

Yes, that mixture is so volatile, incl. because he uses and is pulled by the actual compassion and concern for his family (which even still extends to refusing Saul's suggestion re sending Hank to Mikeland, cos Hank is family dammit, and may have something to do with his coming back, in flash-forwards---think Cranston said Gilligan said "He has to protect someone"---though when asked about that, Gilligan said it could change)
