oh I dunno, I was mostly talking about the major characters - Jesse, Walt, Hank, Skylord, Marie - they all "look like what they are" is very otm. I don't consider any of those people "TV pretty", there's no fat schlub with incredible knockout wife etc. they all look like normal people with the sort of physical idiosyncrasies that implies. this is comparatively rare on TV.

i think the problem here is that you do not think any human beings are attractive

lydia is def really pretty. cranston and aaron paul are classically handsome and classically "cute," respectively. they go out of their way to make Walt less attractive than Cranston, I think.

cranston on seinfeld was used as this ridiculously handsome dbag archetype.

I think this shows generally goes out of its way to make it's characters seem less attractive than they would be if they were on another TV show.

no one is too implausibly attractive for their character but there are plenty of attractive people in this show.

dressing down attractive people is fine but their attractivity is always going to shine through

fyi cranston looks more attractive because the flash-forwards were shot first --- they got all the flashfowards done while Cranston still had hair. iirc Gilligan said that hair concerns account for like 90% of the scheduling of the show

Hmm, I just had to google King of Queens and idgi cause she's really average looking. That couple doesn't seem any less believable than Hank & Marie and they seem a lot closer together in age (just checked, actors have a 5 year age gap vs. hank & marie's 10 year difference).

the actress who plays marie is obviously more attractive than the character is made to be. the show does go to lengths to show why these two could plausibly be together, unlike The King of Queens/insert CBS sitcom

Hank seems like a sort fit guy that has put on a few pounds. king of queens dude is a blob. would also take queen of queens (no idea what to call her) over Marie any day - but i admit that's personal preference and a little more up for debate.

Also Hank is a decent upstanding guy and a successful federal agent but I guess only looks matter, huh?
(Even if he was pretty shitty during his physical therapy with his GODAMN MINERALS)

I think Kevin James/Leah Remini was believable as a couple and got unfairly lumped in with completely absurd TV couples like the one on According to Jim.

Jim Belushi and any human female is pretty unbelievable.

Love that Gunn wrote that Op Ed. Not sure people hate the character because she is strong. If anything, she seems driven by fear, including, several seasons ago, the fear of leaving Walt. I mean:

"Vince Gilligan, the creator of “Breaking Bad,” wanted Skyler to be a woman with a backbone of steel who would stand up to whatever came her way, who wouldn’t just collapse in the corner or wring her hands in despair."

This doesn't read right to me. Backbone of steel? Walt has bullied into a lot of her actions. And haven't there been plenty of moments where she has basically been relegated to wringing her hands in despair in the corner? Maybe I need to watch the show again, but Marie has always seemed more hardcore/tenacious/tough per Gunn's description than Skyler.

Also not sure who these people are who are supposedly rooting for Walt, but I guess I'm not surprised they exist.
