iMessage is a lot better than those others because it's transparent and will default back to text, imo

google needs to get their shit together in some ways, though, because I would text a friend and his response would go to google talk back in the day since I wasn't on an android device but DID have a google talk acct

i wonder how hangouts is doing for them

it works better, in my experience, when it comes to sending things intelligently

does gchat have an official app? i would use that all the time

yeah, gchat is/will be retired in lieu of hangouts and it has an app

how many of you use gchat and how extensively? i'm curious b/c, while i've used it before, i def don't use it now and uninstalled hangouts from my ipad

i can't remember the last time i logged onto that, but it has to have been at least like . . . well over three/four years ago or w/e

and imessage and text live in teh same window—if someone im imessaging isn't data-online, it'll default to text. and vice versa. i never have to guess if someone has got my message or not.

I use facebook messages for people if I don't have their phone number but talk to them on there. Plus it's more casual and kind of a reasonable default

nope, except I don't do gchat directly anymore, have my own jabber server running. Someday google will stop accepting incoming jabber messages and I won't be able to IM anyone.

I also am still on AIM with the screen name I got in 6th grade. There are people I chat with over AIM too.
