three months pass...

jeez, the first 3 episodes of the second season are pretty sucky.

It gets worse

That's the promo for Season 3.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 9 December 2013 21:33 (twelve years ago)

I felt that way about the first two, but I loved the coke episode.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Monday, 9 December 2013 22:11 (twelve years ago)

terrible promo btw. They make it look like a generic *offbeat indie comedy*.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Monday, 9 December 2013 22:11 (twelve years ago)

Which it happened to be, sometimes, in Season 2.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 9 December 2013 22:16 (twelve years ago)

yeah, true, the Ray/Shoshana "I love you" scene was obnoxiously romcom, for example. I wonder if that's the imprint of Apatow.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Monday, 9 December 2013 22:18 (twelve years ago)

Something about the cocaine bit just perfectly captured the phenomenon of doing something "for the experience" in a hilarious way.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Monday, 9 December 2013 22:20 (twelve years ago)

does anyone think that "bi" ex/roomie could possibly EVER have sex with a woman, multiple times?

Jemima Kirke marriage plot is ridiculous

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Monday, 9 December 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

I just hope Dunham dedicated herself to write a good story this time. I keep wondering why I should get back to those characters.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 9 December 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

I was just saying to H that Jessa is oddly the only character I find likable.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Monday, 9 December 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)

But I still think Dunham is very funny.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Monday, 9 December 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)

honestly that stupid season 3 trailer made me very excited for the next season of this damn show

i too went to college (silby), Monday, 9 December 2013 23:17 (twelve years ago)

same. stoked that jessa's back, i thought she had left for good

flopson, Monday, 9 December 2013 23:24 (twelve years ago)

I can't really put my finger on why Jessa. Hot obvs, but so is Marnie and I find her awful. I guess it's some cliche about being "honest about who she is" or something.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Monday, 9 December 2013 23:29 (twelve years ago)

She's sort of the pure id of group

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Monday, 9 December 2013 23:30 (twelve years ago)

She's also quite funny, unlike Marnie.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 10 December 2013 01:09 (twelve years ago)

The only bits of last season that I found at all interesting were the more extreme behavioral bits of the penultimate episodes. The finale was all kinds of terrible.

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 December 2013 01:12 (twelve years ago)

ok you've all convinced me I don't need to finish s2 before it has to go back to the liberry.

My fave bit of dialogue was

"omg he's a Republican"
"so? Clinton signed Glass-Steagall"

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 December 2013 01:27 (twelve years ago)

If you don't get close to finishing it, you'll miss the serious :-O moment w/yr boy Adam (in ep 9 iirc).

Season 2 is definitely more uneven, kind of experimental in places, and has a few seriously freaky turns, especially in the last few episodes. Not as coherent or consistent as the first season, but frequently compelling in a batshit way.

Though the Season 3 promo looks like fun, it also vaguely makes it look like the last 2-3 eps of Season 2 never happened - I'm hoping the events therein don't get ignored or handwaved away too easily.

one man's trash justifies this show for another year at least

it's pretty amazing that the only contemporary television show Morbius has any time for is the one produced by Apatow, how does that even happen

I bought/watched "One Man's Trash" on a Virgin flight (TVs in the headrests). Didn't look at my seatmates during.

LD sure writes herself a lotta banging scenes

"I feel like I'm in a Nancy Meyers movie." Probably us too, more than you think.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 12 December 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)

two weeks pass...

through most of season 2, p good overall. One Man's Trash is good. I also enjoyed the Ray and Adam buddy picture short on SI, although I thought the dog owner's daughter read p much like a rich kid's fantasy of who lives on SI and not a real person. The internet startup feels a little unreal but I think it's supposed to be mildly caricatured, and it works on that level. The whole Adam AA blind date thing felt a little forced, mostly just a setup for LD to do that one sex scene, which was daring and important and all so I can't complain too much.

I liked the visit to Jessa's house a lot. Hannah's OCD also feels like something forced into the show, and I also feel like she tried to make the parents seem worse than they did in the past in order to make her character more sympathetic, like "see, she actually has it just as bad as Jessa." And also there's the whole thing with Marnie's narcissistic mother. Like they all need to have some sad backstory as an excuse. It's a little annoying and quid-aggy.

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Friday, 27 December 2013 18:10 (twelve years ago)

Was surprised to learn that the actor who played Charlie quit the show. Lol. I hope they just continue on with the show as if he never existed, never referring to him again etc a la richie's older brother on happy days

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 27 December 2013 18:38 (twelve years ago)

Or have a different actor play him like on Roseanne

signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Friday, 27 December 2013 18:44 (twelve years ago)

lol his justification and Dunham's response to his quitting are both kind of douchey:

http://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/news/celebrity/2013/04/05/girls-star-christopher-abbott-quits
"The world that Lena [ Dunham ] wrote was very real, especially in New York, but it wasn't as relatable for me on a personal level."

---

Speaking to The Los Angeles Times, Dunham said: "I've had so many concerned Twitter followers ask: What are you going to do without Charlie?... I want to say, 'If the show Girls relied on guys, we'd be up a creek without a paddle.'"
