roy ayers also otm but only just barely
― j., Monday, 19 August 2013 03:16 (twelve years ago)
Just finished season 3 and the finale had in tears laughing at the beginning and sad tears at the end. What a show he's created.
― JacobSanders, Thursday, 22 August 2013 06:08 (twelve years ago)
Everyone I know loves this show so much, as I presume does everyone on here (long thread), feeling stupid for being barely able to not ffwd through the standup and thinking the rest's just occasionally OK
― albvivertine, Thursday, 22 August 2013 06:15 (twelve years ago)
Well not stupid, but odd
― albvivertine, Thursday, 22 August 2013 06:16 (twelve years ago)
I think S2 was a hair better in terms of consistency, but damn if S3 wasn't awesome and ambitious as hell. Sort of hoping S4 is just a long-ass movie broken into 13 parts.
― Simon H., Thursday, 22 August 2013 06:16 (twelve years ago)
there were a few stretches in S3 where he almost veers into woody allen-style "i love this city" sentimentality or just artsy cliché but he always turns back just in time.
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Thursday, 22 August 2013 09:27 (twelve years ago)
i do worry he's getting ambitious and next season will be his "shadows and fog" or something
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Thursday, 22 August 2013 09:28 (twelve years ago)
also this is neither a criticism nor a compliment but does the show seem to be getting less transgressive?
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Thursday, 22 August 2013 09:29 (twelve years ago)
the last season had peaks of real brilliance but felt rushed to meand apparently to him as well as he decided to take a year off to regroup on this and other projects
― YOU FOOLS PAY OVER $2.50 for a comic book (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 22 August 2013 14:44 (twelve years ago)
the last 3 episodes of S3 were brilliant though. I wish they could have just aired them all at once though, it felt too much like a movie. some of my favorite TV ever really.

― @twitizensforlemonlipbalm (schlump), Friday, 20 September 2013 15:00 (twelve years ago)
I saw the show he had on HBO ages ago and thought it was pretty good, though sort of minimalistic. Then again I thought they were trying to do a Honeymooners sort of thing and it had that feel, for me, with a slightly updated feel. Pamela Adlon is so awesome!

this was all over my facebook today and then i shared it too cuz i felt like it was the thing to do.

A friend of mine had a completely different take on this than seemingly every other person in the world:
You know what? Before smart phones and texting, I consistently lost touch with and lost friends because, as someone with Asperger's, I couldn't keep up with the exhausting demands on phone calls and in person meet ups that neurotypicals require to keep a friendship going. My smart phone has, for the first time ever, allowed me to have a meaningful social life and connect with people in a way that doesn't exhaust and/or kill me.Also, I suffer from depression and I'm hella in tune with my sadness and the sadness of life.So FUCK THIS SHIT.
Also, I suffer from depression and I'm hella in tune with my sadness and the sadness of life.
So FUCK THIS SHIT.
I know you can ruin any observation or joke by applying some anecdotal element to it, but it's a pov worth considering.

I'm with Johnny Fever's friend, just because you suck at using modern tech doesn't mean the tech sucks

it's great that some ppl with aspergers could connect with people over the internet but i think internet addiction is a pretty serious and super prevalent and i don't think it is so simple as "u suck at using tech"
― flopson, Friday, 20 September 2013 23:33 (twelve years ago)
espectially when "u" is, like, a kid

― Heez, Friday, 20 September 2013 23:47 (twelve years ago)
i really admire his writing. he's the closest to carlin as far as good writing goes. i'm sure the whole cell-phone thing would be even better on stage.
― scott seward, Friday, 20 September 2013 23:50 (twelve years ago)
i feel like the message of his cell phone bit (s) is not cell phones suck. & yeah that is a nice story JF.
― @twitizensforlemonlipbalm (schlump), Saturday, 21 September 2013 00:50 (twelve years ago)
yeah louis is a big twitterer and phone user and internet-savvy.
― scott seward, Saturday, 21 September 2013 01:02 (twelve years ago)
JF and aero otm. Feel like there is a group of Internet people ready to agree with whatever Louis or Patton say. They are funny. They are not necessarily otm.

i think he's kinda otm. at least about the tech thing. and just like louis i am on the computer all the time. but i don't own a cell-phone. so on those rare occasions when i venture outside i am 100% tech-less. i prefer life that way.
― scott seward, Saturday, 21 September 2013 01:36 (twelve years ago)

I get what you mean, but it's simplified. Because it has to be. Bc it's a joke.
― 6 Tuesdays on every Tuesday. This is called dumpy pants. (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 21 September 2013 01:40 (twelve years ago)
yeah its pretty simple. louis uses cell phones and computers all the time and he has noticed that this might not always be the best thing to do. its not that deep. but the way he describes it/writes it/acts it out is fun! and done well. to me.
― scott seward, Saturday, 21 September 2013 01:46 (twelve years ago)
"It is simplified" and "it is simple" have opposite meanings!

No, I think the bit works when you focus on the part about kids being desensitized to the consequences of their own words irl. That shit is a real thing and the point of the bit afaict.
― Darin, Saturday, 21 September 2013 07:03 (twelve years ago)
the facebook thing is when he says he's raising the adults they are going to be which i think he stole directly from a momblog. a momblog like the momastery or the momzone or the harriedmom or something.
― scott seward, Saturday, 21 September 2013 11:34 (twelve years ago)
fortunately i don't know what a FB macro is
not bad, but typical Conan derail; nothin good comedically can ever come from a Springsteen riff
― Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 21 September 2013 14:45 (twelve years ago)
i tend to think that
a) it doesn't matter if louis ck actually is wedded to his iphone or not
b) it doesn't matter where he took stuff from if he builds satisfyingly on it
i mean he's a performer, and a great one, do you really care if in his personal life lines up precisely with his routines?
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Saturday, 21 September 2013 16:18 (twelve years ago)
yeah it's kinda like "HEY THAT BIT ABOUT HIM BEING ON AN AIRPLANE YESTERDAY WAS PATENTLY FALSE, I SAW HIM ON ANOTHER L.A.-BASED TALK SHOW THREE DAYS PRIOR"
― Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Saturday, 21 September 2013 16:20 (twelve years ago)
right but i think that by contrast with other comics people tend to treat ck as if he's actually using his routine to express beliefs he feels strongly about and wants other people to hold. whereas in fact he's just trying to say stuff that's funny, as far as i can tell. e.g. i'm sure lots of comics are actually totally fine with airplane food! but that shouldn't stop you from making fun of it in public if you can make it funny.
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 21 September 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)
he probably DOES feel strongly about it!
i feel strongly that I should get off my butt and exercise but does that mean I'm doing a 2k run this morning?
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Saturday, 21 September 2013 16:43 (twelve years ago)
I think people tend to forget that half of what Louis says is about how much of an idiot he is himself. I do believe he wants people to think about what he is saying, but everything should be taken with a grain of salt.
