Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

so did todd start a fire while working for declan on purpose?

Probably! And I bet he sandbagged the quality on the first 2 batches too.

my inner tweaker loved the supposed heirs to the territory getting dressed down and then offed after producing shitty meth. fuck with your customers and get the horn

combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 19 August 2013 02:22 (twelve years ago)

that scene with Skylar and Marie was....just...wow.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:23 (twelve years ago)

Loved the rotating overhead shot of Jesse on the carousel. Such Filmmaker 101 artifice, but still hilarious and great and fun.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 19 August 2013 02:26 (twelve years ago)

also bringing things back to the origin with Walt saying "don't let me have done this for nothing". I think even he forgot his original aim in doing what he did. although there were obviously ulterior motives even then (ie, proving he could do it on his own without the help from his ex-business partners).

this was a big episode of facial expressions. Saul looking unusually grim when talking to Hank, the whole "Belize" conversation, 'Gomie' looking quizzically at Hank when he asks him how he's doing, Jesse's vacant dead-eyed stare.

also, one of my favorite tropes of crime cinema and television is the whole having conversations about illicit and violent activity in mundane places like a diner. every time I go to Denny's I keep wondering if the dudes in the booth next to me are talking about the rivals they iced in cold blood, but it always turns out to be about some boring family vacation.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:27 (twelve years ago)

also love Walt's full of shit demeanor re: Hank. Hank is FAMILY!!! I didn't mind driving into oncoming traffic with him in my car, or indirectly causing him to get shot and walk funny....BUT YOU GET OUT OF HERE WITH THAT 'BELIZE' CRAP.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:28 (twelve years ago)

ha yeah, suddenly Walt is a man of great principle.

SKYLER FFS SKYLER SKYLER SKYLER (Merdeyeux), Monday, 19 August 2013 02:30 (twelve years ago)

it's like he doesn't even know what his own muddled code of ethics is anymore.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:32 (twelve years ago)

he just one episode ago said "tread lightly"!

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:33 (twelve years ago)

also the lotto ticket with the coordinates of his money stash was a nice touch. I love little flourishes like that - it really is what puts the show at the next level.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:34 (twelve years ago)

interesting skyler thinking about 'our next move'
but she's been in this abusive situation for a long time and i wonder how this is going to be addressed in the future - it was sad but not surprising that when hank started pressuring her immediately to give a statement to the police and take the kids and walk away, she wasn't ready and went right back to walt. i wonder if she will change her mind. lydia doesn't want to look at what happened to declan's guys & skyler really is trying hard not to look at/think about everything walt has actually done

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 19 August 2013 02:50 (twelve years ago)

shes in too deep

lag∞n, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:54 (twelve years ago)

huell is awesome, someone please post a gif of him in mcduck's money bin
i like how skyler's let's be quiet echoes walt's tread lightly
like the whole thing might end with a whimper not a bang

YOU FOOLS PAY OVER $2.50 for a comic book (forksclovetofu), Monday, 19 August 2013 03:28 (twelve years ago)

'i am giving you permission.. you MAKE HER get off the phone'
ugh

hank handled the talk with skyler incredibly poorly

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 19 August 2013 03:51 (twelve years ago)

lag∞n, Monday, 19 August 2013 03:51 (twelve years ago)

Hank behaved exactly like Walt

kind of a stressful, unsatisfying episode

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 19 August 2013 04:45 (twelve years ago)

maybe unsatisfying on purpose but gawd, all tension, no release.

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 19 August 2013 04:45 (twelve years ago)

skyler's crazy trauma face

this was def a setup episode
i groaned loudly when the end credits and dedication came up. Wanted to see Hank/Jessie scene badly!

new prediction: series ends with Walt Jr finding a grubby but intact lottery ticket. It's a winner, and he invests his funds starting up a meth superlab.

the huell/bill burr scene a "hey you want more of these guys on a SAUL SPINOFF right?!" scene that was still real enjoyable

thot police (fadanuf4erybody), Monday, 19 August 2013 06:06 (twelve years ago)

ya. I quite liked that we got some Huell skills on display with the lock-picking, he can do more than stand around being huge.

SKYLER FFS SKYLER SKYLER SKYLER (Merdeyeux), Monday, 19 August 2013 06:09 (twelve years ago)

I thought the Skyler/Hank diner scene was great. First great Skyler episode maybe? There was one shot in that diner scene where the lighting was amazing. Maybe one of the most unsatisfying endings yet though.

wk, Monday, 19 August 2013 06:38 (twelve years ago)

my Twitter feed seems to agree with you that it was an anticlimactic ending but I didn't think so. Maybe the notion of Jesse being the one who spills on Walt rather than Skyler came as more of a surprise to me than it should've.

SKYLER FFS SKYLER SKYLER SKYLER (Merdeyeux), Monday, 19 August 2013 06:47 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, it wasn't the actual situation or writing so much as just how it was presented. The ending just took me by surprise where BB usually seems to end on a stronger beat.

wk, Monday, 19 August 2013 08:16 (twelve years ago)

Yeah that was a pretty weak ending in that I'll only devote 60% of my mental energy for the next seven days to obsessing about what happens next sunday.

get in yr plastic FEMA coffin & stop asking questions (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 19 August 2013 09:57 (twelve years ago)

While it might not have been a "strong" cliffhanger, it was adequate. But fuck do I love how this show throws me a curveball every time I think it's going to somewhere in particular. I'm batting .000 in my predictions so far, but it doesn't stop me from loving it and trying to play along. I've tried every approach too, from "most logical/rational" to "most leftfield" to "that old loose thread/minor character will have a later impact," with no success, yet I'm never dissatisfied by the way things actually play out.

naus, Monday, 19 August 2013 11:27 (twelve years ago)

Money in the desert = motivation for a 30 hour drive? The .50 cal machine gun a way to claim/reclaim it?

The Skylab/Marie/Holly scene had me crawling up the back of my seat. SO tense.

And I am in love with Walt's car. That thing is awesomely badass.

Sleep Deprivation Thriver (B.L.A.M.), Monday, 19 August 2013 13:08 (twelve years ago)

the lidia no-looking thing was the best part of this episode. any other show would have made her the ultimate calculating badass

i'm not so sure Pinkman is going to blab.

i like lydia and todds relationship

lag∞n, Monday, 19 August 2013 14:06 (twelve years ago)

but she's been in this abusive situation for a long time and i wonder how this is going to be addressed in the future - it was sad but not surprising that when hank started pressuring her immediately to give a statement to the police and take the kids and walk away, she wasn't ready and went right back to walt. i wonder if she will change her mind. lydia doesn't want to look at what happened to declan's guys & skyler really is trying hard not to look at/think about everything walt has actually done

what I liked about this episode was how Skyler reacts to Hank's dehumanizing/depersonalizing of her - she is tired of being treated like someone without agency and she has learned that when people tell you they're acting in your interest, they're usually lying, or at best they're exaggerating their ability to take care of you

feel like there's some cool feminist subtext/s to Skyler's realization that she is on her own and holds all the cards
