update: texted some people back, told them i didn't want to do the things they wanted me to do

consulted with mr veg re alphabetization -- re-realphabetized under his advisement. (my previous model of each shelf gets a complete series of letters and 'well the A-B shelf is full so we just won't be able to buy any more dvds starting with those letters' was apparently not workable)
