Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

I saw "Smashed" - Aaron Paul is okay in it, not really a big jump from Jesse. The movie is more about Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character, though. They shot it right in my old neighborhood. It's not a great movie but that dude's new movie Spectacular Now is supposed to be great. It does not feature Aaron Paul as far as I know.

I want to see it

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Friday, 16 August 2013 20:38 (twelve years ago)

So I'm 5 episodes into season one and I'm gonna assume that feeling a bit underwhelmed at this point is normal. Most of the characterizations so far, even Walt, but especially his dumb cop bro-in-law and his b-boy partner, seem so lazy and one dimensional. The KEN WINS douchey-douche the most egeregious example. There are plenty of moments already, though, that point to something better to come.

i feel like its usually like that w cool new series, at first youre suspicious yet there is something keeping you watching

lag∞n, Saturday, 17 August 2013 18:42 (twelve years ago)

So I'm 5 episodes into season one

the season's so damn short anyway that you might as well continue

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 17 August 2013 18:50 (twelve years ago)

Season 1 and to an extent, the first part of Season 2 are almost like a different show. I mean, it's quality, the writing is still there, but everything is so much more low-stakes (I'm speaking strictly in relativity here, cuz obv some big shit still happens).

my brother just got into the show and was on Season 2 and as I rewatched, I realized there were a lot of eps that were half bottle-episode. but it worked due to the writing/acting.

Neanderthal, Saturday, 17 August 2013 18:55 (twelve years ago)

but yea, rip, essentially, Season 1 = nowhere near the apex of the show. trust me - it's going places!

Neanderthal, Saturday, 17 August 2013 18:59 (twelve years ago)

i know, i know. btw can you imagine how difficult it is to avoid spoilers these days? just happy that my blessed mom isn't watching this show.

Here's to Shooting Up (rip van wanko), Saturday, 17 August 2013 19:07 (twelve years ago)

yeah, I had to try hard to avoid them when I was watching the show for the first time two years ago. I imagine now it's even more difficult.

Neanderthal, Saturday, 17 August 2013 19:14 (twelve years ago)

got to stay off the twitters sun night

lag∞n, Saturday, 17 August 2013 19:16 (twelve years ago)

Interesting tidbit in the program info screen for tonight's episode, one that wasn't touched on in the "scenes from next week" bit after last week. Who wants a spoiler?

cops on horse (WilliamC), Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:13 (twelve years ago)

imo the show only really starts to come into its own when Saul shows up

Simon H., Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)

so long as the spoil level isn't above moderate.

I don't have a giant home theater complex and I've been playing loud music in clubs for the last 20 years. Fuck do I ever hate episodes where half the dialogue is whispering.

Props to a friend a couple days ago who proffered the theory that Hank would hesitate to turn Walt in on his own for career reasons.

lol the Low Winter Sun scam again

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:04 (twelve years ago)

just a lil understated family drama with a neo-Nazi massacre thrown in to add spice.

that reminds me that Saul has one of the greatest introductions of a character in all of fiction

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:05 (twelve years ago)

lol AMC I'm not watching that shit even if you give me five dollars. just give up on low winter sun already

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:09 (twelve years ago)

so did todd start a fire while working for declan on purpose?
and if the dea finds out about all the dead guys, is hank going to assume heisenberg is responsible?

i like that drug kingpins on this show have v good taste in pea coats

it's amusing that Declan just turned out to be a mediocre kingpin with low standards

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:14 (twelve years ago)

she was at least wearing low heeled louboutins. it was a good idea though, those guys were probably even less on their guard with this poor lady who can't even walk around

Probably! And I bet he sandbagged the quality on the first 2 batches too.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 19 August 2013 02:22 (twelve years ago)

my inner tweaker loved the supposed heirs to the territory getting dressed down and then offed after producing shitty meth. fuck with your customers and get the horn

combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 19 August 2013 02:22 (twelve years ago)

that scene with Skylar and Marie was....just...wow.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:23 (twelve years ago)

Loved the rotating overhead shot of Jesse on the carousel. Such Filmmaker 101 artifice, but still hilarious and great and fun.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 19 August 2013 02:26 (twelve years ago)

also bringing things back to the origin with Walt saying "don't let me have done this for nothing". I think even he forgot his original aim in doing what he did. although there were obviously ulterior motives even then (ie, proving he could do it on his own without the help from his ex-business partners).

this was a big episode of facial expressions. Saul looking unusually grim when talking to Hank, the whole "Belize" conversation, 'Gomie' looking quizzically at Hank when he asks him how he's doing, Jesse's vacant dead-eyed stare.

also, one of my favorite tropes of crime cinema and television is the whole having conversations about illicit and violent activity in mundane places like a diner. every time I go to Denny's I keep wondering if the dudes in the booth next to me are talking about the rivals they iced in cold blood, but it always turns out to be about some boring family vacation.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:27 (twelve years ago)

also love Walt's full of shit demeanor re: Hank. Hank is FAMILY!!! I didn't mind driving into oncoming traffic with him in my car, or indirectly causing him to get shot and walk funny....BUT YOU GET OUT OF HERE WITH THAT 'BELIZE' CRAP.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:28 (twelve years ago)

ha yeah, suddenly Walt is a man of great principle.

SKYLER FFS SKYLER SKYLER SKYLER (Merdeyeux), Monday, 19 August 2013 02:30 (twelve years ago)

it's like he doesn't even know what his own muddled code of ethics is anymore.

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:32 (twelve years ago)

he just one episode ago said "tread lightly"!

Neanderthal, Monday, 19 August 2013 02:33 (twelve years ago)

also the lotto ticket with the coordinates of his money stash was a nice touch. I love little flourishes like that - it really is what puts the show at the next level.
