for real! i left this episode feeling at least 25% more slimy about watching this show, and that's not really a good thing imo
i want everything to end poorly and grimly and with no "satisfying" resolution.

He seemed like a very conscientious student of the Heisenberg Method. I wonder if Madrigal was sandbagging, claiming poor results to try to draw Walter back in.

The timeline kind of messed me up in this episode. I guess I assumed the gap between 'I'M OUT' and the OMG-BBQ in 5.08 was a day or so when it must have been 3 weeks or so later with an outta remission notice somewhere in between?

Also, Walt is turning into Gus. Sink on while vomiting. Using the towel to vomit. Lydia coming to visit Walt at work just like Walt visited Gus at Pollos Hermanos. Trying to discuss business while they carry on their cover jobs as usual. Taking an interest in low level employees; enemies closer than friends with the DEA delivery guys.

trying to put together what we know from those flash forward scenes - walt not doing chemo cause he has hair likely cause hes terminal seeing how bad he looks - judging from the reaction of his neighbor his criminality is public knowledge - the people he has issues with are street types based on how they defaced his house and there are more than one of them cause of he got that huge gun that is meant for killing multiple dudes

law enforcement's been thru that house thoroughly also. i don't really see the graffiti as an indication he has an issue w/ street thugs, guy's a legend and house was abandoned so it makes sense it was tagged and known as heisenberg's house. definite strong parallels w/ gus (even when he was first talking to hank in the garage i was getting that vibe), again though walt can't help himself and his arrogance and rage make him act more stupidly and rash that gus ever would've. no way gus would've straight up confronted hank like that. he might've gone over there to confirm the situation or get a read on it but he wouldn't have rubbed hank's face in it, he would've just killed him at some point. he's a dea agent w/ health problems, there are plenty of ways and reasons he could die that wouldn't automatically trigger a 'he was on to something w/ that closed case in the garage'. the only time where gus acted w/ the rage and arrogance and rashness that walt routinely deploys on a routine basis was w/ hector (for obv personal reasons).

yeah i'd assumed witness protection last year but now i think on the lam is way more likely. 'we know who you are' makes alot of sense though. could be the law takes him down, could be madrigal, could be the mexican cartel. insane amount of story left to tell, episodes are gonna get dense.

also in those opening scenes i was kind of hoping we'd see a high-angle shot of the house with a rotting pizza still on top of the garage

(unless i'm forgetting a scene where he takes it down)

through the whole eps I was like this is a whole bunch of set-up, not a lot of payoff, then the garage scene oof

Did anyone watch Low Winter Sun after?
I got overwhelmed by it trying so hard in the first five minutes, I turned it off - but then I felt like maybe I should have just stuck with it in case it turns out to be good.
Felt like the screenwriter took that Billy wilder "grab 'em by the throat and never let 'em go" adage a little too seriously.

I don't mind Mark Strong as the occasional bad guy in a movie but i'm not really clamoring for him to carry a show

yeah beyond the bookends it was kinda standard premiere stuff, check in w/ everybody and let the audience know where everybody is right now. though i'm glad that things are relatively out in the open there was a part of me that was looking forward to knowing and watching hank build his case while walt went on w/ his life smugly thinking he'd gotten away w/ everything. also (really just stupid nitpicking now) but if hank had wanted to confirm that that was gale's handwriting but not tip walt off he could've just snapped a picture w/ his phone and left the book there. it's not like the book as a piece of evidence is that super vital.

I watched it until the 1st commercial so I could see the "scenes from next week's BB" bit, which had zero payoff, so I'm not bothering with it anymore.

I like how Hank can't go after Walt without making himself look like a total idiot in the process

wild guesses here but if it turns out I'm right buy me a cola or something: walt eventually gets caught by hank, he rolls over and helps them get the guys behind gus, DEA gives him witness protection flyout to NH, walt can't run from his sins, bad stuff happens, he returns to NM to settle score w/ big gun, something something walt bitch more breakfast

1) dude was in mega-shock, could have made a mistake
2) dude might have wanted to hold on to the evidence before walt could dispose of it

my assumption is that given Walt's left town and seems to be in hiding, his cover has been completely blown and everybody knows that's Heisenberg's house and that the people who tagged it like that are the same people skating in the pool

really do think it's awesome that they got that confrontation out of the way tho, dont really see any advantage in drawing it out

tho now that hank knows, maybe he's got more incentive to work w/ the dea if push comes to shove? the horse is out of the barn, the barn door is open, etc

o yeah s1ocki i totally agree which is why i had that 'stupid nitpicking' caveat. if it had been me i probably would've ran out of the john w/ my pants around my feet, waving the book around, and going 'holy shit you're heisenberg! you're heisenberg!'. i can't imagine hank wanting to make a deal no matter what w/ walt but i could imagine his superiors overruling him, esp since it ain't like this whole thing is likely to make hank look good even if hank is the one who catches him.

next eps cold open will be a crazed hank spray-painting HEISENBERG while the white family attempts to eat breakfast

yeah it was awesome they went from walt has first clue, gets confirmation, has the unspoken 'i know you know' dance w/ hank, and then the confrontation all within the span of like fifteen minutes or so. could've easily been several episodes (and i wouldn't entirely have minded if it was, i do miss how slow and methodical this show was in the first few seasons) and it's a pretty easy way to build tension. at this point they've set up so much they're just knocking over dominoes.

I don't think hank's superiors will be too happy about him trying to reopen the heisenberg case, everybody treats him like don quixote whenever it comes up. I like that it's hank's moral dilemma now, since walt isn't backing down.

mentioned this upthread but it kind of blew me away that he pulled out the tracking device, such an unexpected and crazy move

and kind of the ultimate walter white thing to do, like, he knows hank is on to him, his best move is to do something totally unexpected and freak him out

reminds me of marty mcfly and 'chicken', walt can't stand the possibility that someone somewhere might think they're outsmarting him for even one second.

part of the magic of this show/cranston/the character is whenever he does something so crazily out of character they manage to sell it

that's a good point. i couldn't figure out why he was swiping it, but that makes sense

getting hank-walt confrontation out of the way reminds me of when they just came out and had walt tell skylar what he was doing. i thought they might've kept putting it off until the end of the show

best move would be some gus fring shit, if he could sneak into a school and poison a kid he could easily find some non-suspicious way to off hank. the only problem would be hank wouldn't know that walt beat him.

yeah it reminded me of S1/S2 when the biggest fear of walt's was having skylar find out xp

tho having skylar find out that walt told hank is another level of how exactly is that shit gonna hit the fan
