i was staring at hank's eyes thinking man those are some legit crocodile eyes

so many times early in the series rooting for walt not to get found out by hank, and now I'm practically on my feet cheering hank on with that sucker punch

fuckin beautiful, this show

what i'm wondering most right now is if Walt is going to tell Skylar that Hank has figured it out.

but ya the way this show does the thing of making you forget for a second who walt is exactly... like when he's talking to hank in the garage and you're like, how's he going to try and subtly figure it out... then he just whips out the tracking device and shoves it in his face

What's with Walt's puke routine mirroring Gus' puke in Mexico?

Also, Walt is turning into Gus. Sink on while vomiting. Using the towel to vomit. Lydia coming to visit Walt at work just like Walt visited Gus at Pollos Hermanos. Trying to discuss business while they carry on their cover jobs as usual. Taking an interest in low level employees; enemies closer than friends with the DEA delivery guys.

I usually hate predicting in shows like these, but I think I see a way forward here.

Madrigal takes one or all of Walt's family, says "cook or the kid gets it." Walt goes to Hank -- "I can give you the big guys, just help me try to save Holly's (or whoever's) life," and Hank goes for it, can't believe he's working with the monster, etc. Everybody but Jesse and maybe Hank dies, we all say "dang" and have cake and ice cream after the 8th hour.

thought this was funny cause the expression is usually metaphorical but the operation literally has a lot of moving parts (in the equipment used to produce meth) and more moving parts (assuming lydia's inherited the model of remote meth lab). and I guess the traffic-style metaphor for the drug trade works too.

Sure, I'll put that on the order. I'll be having cake and prosecco. xp

cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 12 August 2013 11:58 (twelve years ago)

I guess I should've rewatched s5.1, can't remember exactly how lydia ended up with the operation. I remember mike, kid on bike, exterminators, walt whitman, fin.

i watched some of it but i wasnt really paying attention. seemed like a pile of cop show cliches, unfortch

i wanna be a gabbneb baby (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 12 August 2013 13:35 (twelve years ago)

lydia was always a major fring contact w/ distribution (whether fring was his own 'boss' or working for madrigal is still somewhat unresolved but the relationship was very close, los pollos hermanos is a madrigal subsidiary), haven't seen 5.1 since it aired but mike i believe was aware of relationship while walt obv had no idea and assumed role and then assumed he could easily hand it off to some schmuck off the street and just walk away. it's possible gale could've maintained walt's qc, esp w/ a ridiculously nice lab in a fixed location and yknow a background in chemistry, and it's possible jesse could've w/ the much longer and more intensive training, the personal sense of pride in his product that would make him a workaholic, and the certain degree of actual talent for this (good luck though on him being able to understand what exactly is wrong if some reason the product starts to suffer and there's no clear reason why) - but just some random criminal? it's not really too surprising their quality went down, that there's nobody there to enforce what the meth cooking version of gmp is, that if anything the opposite might be happening w/ someone there looking to cut corners esp in cases where they don't understand why those corners are there in the first place. so what you'd need to fix this would be someone w/ a strong chemistry background who's also got a strong background of being a real ballbuster w/ lab management. you'd need walter white.

for real! i left this episode feeling at least 25% more slimy about watching this show, and that's not really a good thing imo
i want everything to end poorly and grimly and with no "satisfying" resolution.

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 12 August 2013 14:25 (twelve years ago)

just some random criminal

the opening credits listed Jesse Plemons, so I guess the new cook is Todd and that will be of some significance at some point?

Merdeyeux, Monday, 12 August 2013 14:31 (twelve years ago)

He seemed like a very conscientious student of the Heisenberg Method. I wonder if Madrigal was sandbagging, claiming poor results to try to draw Walter back in.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 12 August 2013 14:36 (twelve years ago)

The timeline kind of messed me up in this episode. I guess I assumed the gap between 'I'M OUT' and the OMG-BBQ in 5.08 was a day or so when it must have been 3 weeks or so later with an outta remission notice somewhere in between?

trying to put together what we know from those flash forward scenes - walt not doing chemo cause he has hair likely cause hes terminal seeing how bad he looks - judging from the reaction of his neighbor his criminality is public knowledge - the people he has issues with are street types based on how they defaced his house and there are more than one of them cause of he got that huge gun that is meant for killing multiple dudes

law enforcement's been thru that house thoroughly also. i don't really see the graffiti as an indication he has an issue w/ street thugs, guy's a legend and house was abandoned so it makes sense it was tagged and known as heisenberg's house. definite strong parallels w/ gus (even when he was first talking to hank in the garage i was getting that vibe), again though walt can't help himself and his arrogance and rage make him act more stupidly and rash that gus ever would've. no way gus would've straight up confronted hank like that. he might've gone over there to confirm the situation or get a read on it but he wouldn't have rubbed hank's face in it, he would've just killed him at some point. he's a dea agent w/ health problems, there are plenty of ways and reasons he could die that wouldn't automatically trigger a 'he was on to something w/ that closed case in the garage'. the only time where gus acted w/ the rage and arrogance and rashness that walt routinely deploys on a routine basis was w/ hector (for obv personal reasons).

balls, Monday, 12 August 2013 15:30 (twelve years ago)

was thinking the graffiti was done by those who drove Walt into hiding but ya it could've just been kids

lag∞n, Monday, 12 August 2013 15:44 (twelve years ago)

also he could either be in witness protection or just on the lam

i was assuming it was something like the remnants of the mexican gang being all "we know who you are"

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 12 August 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)

ya exactly

lag∞n, Monday, 12 August 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)

yeah i'd assumed witness protection last year but now i think on the lam is way more likely. 'we know who you are' makes alot of sense though. could be the law takes him down, could be madrigal, could be the mexican cartel. insane amount of story left to tell, episodes are gonna get dense.

balls, Monday, 12 August 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)

also in those opening scenes i was kind of hoping we'd see a high-angle shot of the house with a rotting pizza still on top of the garage

(unless i'm forgetting a scene where he takes it down)

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 12 August 2013 16:14 (twelve years ago)

through the whole eps I was like this is a whole bunch of set-up, not a lot of payoff, then the garage scene oof

Did anyone watch Low Winter Sun after?
I got overwhelmed by it trying so hard in the first five minutes, I turned it off - but then I felt like maybe I should have just stuck with it in case it turns out to be good.
Felt like the screenwriter took that Billy wilder "grab 'em by the throat and never let 'em go" adage a little too seriously.

I don't mind Mark Strong as the occasional bad guy in a movie but i'm not really clamoring for him to carry a show

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 August 2013 16:24 (twelve years ago)

yeah beyond the bookends it was kinda standard premiere stuff, check in w/ everybody and let the audience know where everybody is right now. though i'm glad that things are relatively out in the open there was a part of me that was looking forward to knowing and watching hank build his case while walt went on w/ his life smugly thinking he'd gotten away w/ everything. also (really just stupid nitpicking now) but if hank had wanted to confirm that that was gale's handwriting but not tip walt off he could've just snapped a picture w/ his phone and left the book there. it's not like the book as a piece of evidence is that super vital.

balls, Monday, 12 August 2013 16:24 (twelve years ago)

I watched it until the 1st commercial so I could see the "scenes from next week's BB" bit, which had zero payoff, so I'm not bothering with it anymore.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 12 August 2013 16:25 (twelve years ago)

I like how Hank can't go after Walt without making himself look like a total idiot in the process

joe schmoladoo from 7-11 (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 12 August 2013 16:26 (twelve years ago)

wild guesses here but if it turns out I'm right buy me a cola or something: walt eventually gets caught by hank, he rolls over and helps them get the guys behind gus, DEA gives him witness protection flyout to NH, walt can't run from his sins, bad stuff happens, he returns to NM to settle score w/ big gun, something something walt bitch more breakfast

― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Monday, July 16, 2012 12:53 AM (1 year ago)

rolling BB lol predictions but I guess walt ain't rolling over and between madrigal, the cartel, and hank he's got a lot of enemies to choose from

todd is def gonna play a roll tho, guy's got the aw shucks greenness of jesse and the ice water of walt in his veins, and he knows enough to sink everybody at this point
