Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

VG seems like a very decent sort of dude. Like, it's hard to know what these dudes are like to actually work for vs talking about working but in everything he talks about on Nerdist he's so generous with his praise, he rarely takes any credit for anything except the stuff that doesn't work, lol

i dunno, I'm just thinking about him vs other showrunners like Dan Harmon or Joss Whedon where the conversation remains very much about them (and I like both of them). Gilligan is constantly singing the praises of everyone he works with in a not-kiss-assy way, that just makes me like him a whole lot

oh man, in all of those BB Insider podcasts he is like that. Amazing that breaking bad came out of such an affable guy.

Yeah, I think compared to Harmon and Whedon (who I like too), Gilligan projects a sense of appreciating the shit out of how lucky he is to be able to do what he does. It's not that I think Harmon and Whedon are unappreciative, but there's a streak (strong in Harmon, not as much in Whedon) of "I deserve this" with them.

I'd never heard of the 'clockwork universe' but I tried to write a post a few weeks ago along these lines about the contrived-ness of the BB universe and how they do it so well (then deleted it because I couldn't put it into words like this):

I don't mind a bit of 'contrived' as all works of fiction are contrived, just some less hokey or dull than others. I don't mind Walt meeting Jane's dad in the bar, for example. The one thing so far that has me frowning slightly is the sheer mechanics of Walt getting to Brock at the end of S4 (as well as the DEA having Gus's fingerprints on file but I've argued that in another thread and I'm just going to go with the assumption they keep them on file when Gus entered the country).

thought it was great - I thought for sure they were going to roll credits on the episode as soon as the garage door went down and thought it was awesome that the Hank v Walt confrontation wasn't drawn out further - super smart imo

Jesse character development/dark night of the soul is great until he's tearing up chuckin money at the houses at which point mrs aero rightly starts goin "Emmy!" every time the money thuds

however fuck nitpicking that show fucking ruled

but then I've been reading Barney Hoskyns' Hotel California and drawing the blinds and staying indoors in a panic gets my vote.

yeah, I was looking forward to a few weeks of who-knows-what-about-who tension, but the way that closing argument swung from place to place and left where they stand unresolved is a lot more interesting.

dean norris was amazing in every scene this episode. i love the way that he and cranston keep becoming more similar-looking with every season.

yeah it was so...like, "how/when will Hank confront Walt?" is the q and you sort of instinctively feel like they're going to make you wait and instead the beginning of the confrontation is a fucking fist to the face. really satisfying. and yeah Jesse's demeanor in the living room - the line, what was it exactly - about how mike'd be on ww for killing his guys and ww doesn't really leave stuff hanging - fucking chilly as hell

the walt and jesse conversation felt so true to the tail end of shitty relationships that i've known....jesse obviously knows walt's obvious lie is a lie, walt obviously knows that jesse doesn't believe him, but neither party cares enough to do anything about it. so it just lies there.

watched this ep high. think that may have enhanced it.

just Hank's ferocity - here's a guy who's never been anything but polite to Walt, but now that he has tread on his turf, and he knows the truth, he just eviscerates him. the whole "I don't know you. I don't know who I'm talking to".....wow.

or the transition from Walt's meek, softspoken mild-mannered trapeze act quickly giving way to a chilly, violent threat on his final line.

i think the "hey where's my copy of leaves of grass" was a hail mary; think they could've done that better by having hank (stupidly but in a daze) rip the page out from the front and leave walt to find that instead.
also would've liked them to telegraph the returning cancer more in s5.1 in any way except the "IN TEH FUTURE" bumpers
and lastly in minor beefs, i hope they're done with those fucking bumpers; let's just get there in due time.
otherwise though yeah A+++ hank/walt walt/jesse moments and jesse's redistribution of wealth bit is great and is doomed to be a THANKS OBAMA macro by tomorrow
