Ratings are apparently not good. :(

Chris L (Chris L), Friday, 20 October 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

They need to move it to Thursdays. Fuck Deal or No Deal.

Orgy of Pragmatism (Charles McCain), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

it's a no laugh-track comedy, it should be aligned with The Office and Earl or at least Scrubs, or it should be on before Studio 60.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

If they bring Scrubs back, they should put it on Thursdays as well. Welcome back "Must See TV"

Orgy of Pragmatism (Charles McCain), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i feel like 30 Rock should be a later-in-prime-time show - it's on at 7:30 here! right after flipping btwn access hollywood and coronation street and before something like The Nine or other semi-interesting hr-long drama. which is wrong/weird. i'm most likely going to end up just dloading it and doing usual choose yr own adventure tv time! randomness!

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

nbc only has 4 sitcoms. they can't all be on the same night. and they have to make two one-hour blocks out of the shows they have, thus, 8 to 9 two nights a week. they can't put one of them on later.

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Thursday, 26 October 2006 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

Ok, we saw the last half of this last night. High number of lols per minute watched. must watch again.

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Thursday, 26 October 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

i love this show.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 26 October 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

this show is so much better than studio 60. i totally put my money on the wrong one!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

the sorkin show is total loserville. this show rocks.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

I like both, but I like 30 Rock better.

Orgy of Pragmatism (Charles McCain), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, Scott - so you don't like Studio 60, is that what you're trying to say?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

no offense to ilxor west wing fans, but sorkin tends to write about and for people i hate. whereas i genuinely enjoy the characters on 30 rock and they remind me of people i've known/worked with/worked for. in a good way.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't really want to fire you, I just wanted to remind you that I could.

polar bear flashback episode (nickalicious), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

i gave studio 60 a shot! i'll still probably watch it. it makes me wince though. west wing made me wince. kinda like steven bochco makes me wince.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

making flower beds out of old railroad ties!

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

also LOLd @ her ex-bf list, "that gangly red-haired guy that never stopped playing guitar" "Conan"

The show on after this with Jeffrey Tambor & John Lithgow is a lot funnier than I expected, but it's still a regular sitcom, which is so much harder to watch now post Arrested Development/Office/etc.

polar bear flashback episode (nickalicious), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

I couldn't get past the opening scene of the Lithgow/Tambor sitcom where they were playing basketball. I think they should join the cast of 30 Rock.

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

studio 60 is such a misfire... everything about it is so wrong.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

that was funny.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

nbc only has 4 sitcoms. they can't all be on the same night

From today's Washington Post:

And, in a move that can only be called PR genius, NBC announced "30 Rock," Tina Fey's sendup of "Saturday Night Live," and mothballed doctor comedy "Scrubs" would join "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office" for a four-comedy block on Thursday night, harkening back to the golden days of NBC, long before it became just another cog in the great GE/NBC Universal 2.0 mandala.

Based on early exit polling, it worked like gangbusters. Critics seemed to like it; ditto members of the Hollywood TV community. The move "at least gives the network an identity" on one night of the week, said one industry suit who wished to remain anonymous because private schools aren't cheap.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 26 October 2006 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

RETURN OF MUST-SEE TV

This is saddening in a way though because now once again there will be nothing decent on tv in the hour before LOST on Wed.

polar bear flashback episode (nickalicious), Thursday, 26 October 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

well there you go. it's just like I said, you can always have your only four sitcoms air on one night if you want.

(they just wanted to prove me wrong. they are ALWAYS doing that.)

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 26 October 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

The show on after this with Jeffrey Tambor & John Lithgow is a lot funnier than I expected, but it's still a regular sitcom, which is so much harder to watch now post Arrested Development/Office/etc.

bulllllshit, three-camera/studio audience sitcoms are still, as a format, way better than all that steadicam/awkward-silences-with-no-laugh-track stuff that's trendy now (although I do like what 30 Rock does with it), and judging from CBS's Monday night lineup there's still some good shows being made in that style.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Friday, 27 October 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

although I haven't been able to bring myself to watch a minute of 20 Good Years, even with 30 Rock as a lead-in.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Friday, 27 October 2006 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

Pretend that I don't know how to Google. When is this fucking show on? I have consistently not even heard about it. Yay, NBC, way to promote your new show starring brilliant writer Tina Fey, you fucking douchebags.

Portable Dorkness (Dick Butkus), Friday, 27 October 2006 01:40 (nineteen years ago)

Amused that Fey was watching Deal or No Deal when she started choking. I'm still wondering about her range as an actress, but I think she is doing good for now.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 27 October 2006 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

You can watch the last episode at NBC.com (link)

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 27 October 2006 01:47 (nineteen years ago)

"Yay, NBC, way to promote your new show starring brilliant writer Tina Fey, you fucking douchebags."

they had promos up the butt for months! they looked like snl promos.

"and judging from CBS's Monday night lineup there's still some good shows being made in that style."

other than lost, and now 30 rock, these are the only shows i watch. i dig how i met your mother, and 2 & a half men, and old christine. the class is pretty bad though. maybe even worse than the one with the fonz and stockard channing that is gone now i think.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:23 (nineteen years ago)

The promo where Alec Baldwin thought he was on "the new Alan Sorkin show about late night TV" was fucking hilarious.

PROMOS

roffles at promos
oh that alec

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Friday, 27 October 2006 03:49 (nineteen years ago)

The show with Tambor and Lithgow has been cancelled, says the LA Times today. It ranked 67th last week. Nov 8 will be the last one shown. I watched the first one and the overdone laugh track made it unbearable, but I wouldn't have stuck with it anyway.

nickn (nickn), Friday, 27 October 2006 03:55 (nineteen years ago)

scott, do you like THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE?!?!

chaki (chaki), Friday, 27 October 2006 05:28 (nineteen years ago)

The Jennifer Jason Lee gag also had me rolling.

And I didn't even realize that Gretchen was played by Law & Order alum Stephanie March.

20 Good Years was doomed from the start, it was basically targeted to everyone outside the 18-49 bracket. Smart.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 27 October 2006 06:13 (nineteen years ago)

"scott, do you like THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE?!?!"

yes! i mentioned that one. it's not great, but it has its moments. and andy richter as creepy japan-obsessed oral sex king is worth watching. her brother is weird. like he dropped in from an indie movie or something. definitely laugh out loud moments to be had.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 October 2006 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

Did alec Baldwin get a new agent or something? He seems to be everywhere at the moment. Just last night we watched him in 30 Rock, and then flicked through some trailers to see him crop up in The Departed and Running With Scissors.

I was kind of hoping for a Chamillionaire cameo. A Cameoillionaire.

polar bear flashback episode (nickalicious), Thursday, 2 November 2006 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

thinking a lot lately about the scene where jack goes to work for the bush administration and he walks into a room and looks up and goes "um, the ceiling appears to be leaking" and matthew broderick cheerfully responds "no. it's not. we've looked into it, and it's not."

The Rise and Fall Of Reggie Dinkins has so much of that good classic 30 Rock joke structure (or maybe irs just the magic of letting Tracy cook) it’s been a while since i had lols this good in a tv comedy

Where does it land on the scale of Kimmy Schmidt (often as good as 30 Rock), Girls5Eva (very good), and Mr. Mayor (what were you thinking, Tina?)?

Major Kirascuro (Leee), Thursday, 26 February 2026 21:10 (four months ago)

haha we were just cracking up about "The Rural Juror" a couple nights ago
