Right after the Yankees sign Vladdy Guerro and Magglio Ordonez.

God I hate those little plastic inflatable bats or rally batons or whatever they are. And what is that rhythm?? It's in no time signature I am familiar with.

Obviously the crowd digs on IDM riddims.

Let me second the props to Mike Krukow. Absolutely deserves national spotlight -- he may be an irrepressible homer (not that I care one iota), but he's the funniest and most insightful 'sucker I've heard in ages (not saying much though).

Grab some pine, meat! &c

Is that before or after Zito and Mulder don the pinstripes?

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 25 October 2002 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Is that before or after Zito and Mulder don the pinstripes?

Then they'll have NINE starters and still no one with a clue as to how to pitch in the 8th.

ch. (synkro), Friday, 25 October 2002 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

haha actually I like this idea of steinbrenner acquiring EVERYONE until there's no teams left except the yankees and they just turn out to play catch and shag flies 162 days a year and clemens gets so fat that he has to rub the babe's head for exercise.

ch. (synkro), Friday, 25 October 2002 20:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Then they'll have NINE starters and still no one with a clue as to how to pitch in the 8th.

And Sterling Hitchcock will still be getting $145 million a year to sit on the DL.

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 25 October 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

guys... quit the hijax0r-ing already and start a yankee h8 thread...

FAP: toronado on saturday!

gygax!, Friday, 25 October 2002 20:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Being out of the country and living under a rock for 10 days (China), what did the Giants say exactly that make them pompous and smug?

Leee (Leee), Friday, 25 October 2002 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

naw, Yankee h8ing is never out of place.

When the Yankees acquired Weaver and put him in the bullpen, my brother and I joked that by the next time we go to Yankee Stadium, Steinbrenner will have El Duque selling nachos.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 25 October 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

since drew henson is a bust he might be the one selling nachos.

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 26 October 2002 23:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Search: Barry Bonds
Destroy: F. Rodriguez, fans praying.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 27 October 2002 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Destroy: F. Rodriguez

but I love Felix the Cat! ;)

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 27 October 2002 03:18 (twenty-three years ago)

how do you know they were praying? maybe they were just hopeful.

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 27 October 2002 03:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean, the ones I saw were even holding their hands the hopeful way

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 27 October 2002 04:18 (twenty-three years ago)

What is "the hopeful way"?

I'm not too crazy about the way everyone at the bar last night kept going on how the Giants have to win because Bonds "deserves" a ring. Is this a common way of going about doing things? Yes, he's a great player but I don't see how that makes it like his birth right to win a World Series...

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 October 2002 22:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Hm. I have a feeling my housemate is not coming back tonight until, oh, 6 am. Surprisingly quiet around the neighborhood, though!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 October 2002 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

it's different from the praying way, ally. but whatever. everyone tonight looked like they were praying, so I give up.

Josh (Josh), Monday, 28 October 2002 04:46 (twenty-three years ago)

i only saw the last inning, but i could tell this was the most boring series in a while. the angels dogpile was terrible!

boxcubed (boxcubed), Monday, 28 October 2002 04:53 (twenty-three years ago)

they have very little experience dogpiling one would expect

Josh (Josh), Monday, 28 October 2002 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

(this space reserved for dan)

boxcubed (boxcubed), Monday, 28 October 2002 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bah, I hate baseball and am swearing it off forever or until the Giants go back to the Series.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 28 October 2002 05:12 (twenty-three years ago)

final verdict: classic.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 28 October 2002 05:20 (twenty-three years ago)

uh oh did I somehow karmically bump leee out of ba$eball?

Josh (Josh), Monday, 28 October 2002 05:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Joshua -- it happens in grande cycles, as I am the fairweatherest of fanaticals regarding Sporte.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 28 October 2002 06:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm crying BIG TEARS right now.

you all have made my heart say "OUCH"!

i put my thang down flip it reverse it.

how i will remember the idiot angels fans: reggie sanders retreiving a ball against the wall and two fans taking their thundersticks and hitting him with them as he was trying to make the play!!! angel fans = the lowest slime imaginable... where were they last year?

okay, i can feel more tears coming, i better stop this posting... angels = the pure depth of satanic evil... WALT = 666 = THE RAT.

I should almost feel bad for you. But I don't.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 28 October 2002 08:55 (twenty-three years ago)

congratulations to the Angels

Jeff W (Jeff W), Monday, 28 October 2002 09:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i only saw the last inning, but i could tell this was the most boring series in a while.

awww, bc, don't worry, i'm sure the yankees will be back soon. ;-)

no way no way no way was that a boring series. even in the last inning there was some suspense, or at least more than we'd seen before in the postseason with percival on the mound.

dogpiles: S/D The Twins in 87 stand out in my mind.

ch. (synkro), Monday, 28 October 2002 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Putting the bat in the hands of Tom Goodwin & Tsuyoshi Shinjo w/ important runners on base = the Giants were destined to lose OR Dusty Baker was saying goodbye to team owner Peter McGowan (sic) a little earlier than most expected.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 October 2002 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

but David, Shinjo is a "high fastball hitter" so it made perfect sense! (thx Joe Buck)

i'm disappointed they didn't show the inevitable royal rumble in the sf clubhouse. TS: Jeff Kent vs. Livan Hernandez's kid.

ch. (synkro), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Game 7 was the most boring game of the series, hands down. Shame Kirk Reuter's gem in relief was completely worthless thanks to Livan.

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

You mean "high" as in "on a batting tee", right, Chad?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:44 (twenty-three years ago)

David R. brings up shinjo and goodwin....

what about DH-ing pedro feliz?

gygax!, Monday, 28 October 2002 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I much preferred game 5's 16-4 rout. That was *so* exciting. Where as last night's boring game only had the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning of the seventh game of the World Series. And, oh no, the game didn't last 4 hours!

The Giants bench was what, 0 for 93? Maybe they shoulda given a bat to Dusty's kid. We know he can find home plate at least.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 28 October 2002 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

The Giants' bench was awful. Shinjo, Goodwin, Feliz, Shawon Dunston, a back-up catcher, and ...? I read the bench (including DH stints) went 3 for 23 during the series, with 3 RBIs, and this includes Dunston's HR in Game 6. Where the hell was Damon Minor? What, do you not want a lefty slugger on your bench? Or would you rather pinch-hit for a capable 25-HR right fielder type with a poor, poor, poor man's Otis Nixon?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 October 2002 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

When the top half of the 8th ended, I knew it was over. Even when Lofton was up I knew there was no chance. Untimely non-hitting last night. Agreed on the Giants bench. I mean, Shinjo's yr fucking clutch hitter??? Come on Dusty!

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 28 October 2002 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

seeing the giants kids crying broke my heart. but then I saw an angels kid crying and I was just confused. somehow I find myself unable to attribute tears of joy to little kids. maybe it was just loud and scared him.

Josh (Josh), Monday, 28 October 2002 23:26 (twenty-three years ago)

How many times do I have to tell you, Josh? crying/baseball = 0

Darren Baker might have time to turn his career around but the crying is probably good practice in case Dusty heads to the Cubs.

I find it pleasingly dramatic when the college basketball cheerleaders cry and wring their hands when their teams are eliminated from the NCAA tournament. They're like the chorus in a Greek tragedy.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 00:01 (twenty-three years ago)

where were they last year?

I can't speak for Eisner or the cast of Malcolm in the Middle, but I was at the Ed in September, watching the Angels get thrashed by Zito and Lidle and getting my hat signed by Al Levine :)

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Quite right. Felicity is very much a Real Fan and those who disagree are stinky and jealous. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 02:16 (twenty-three years ago)

was bobby grich there?

keith (keithmcl), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

it's different from the praying way, ally. but whatever. everyone tonight looked like they were praying, so I give up.

That's what people do at sporting events, "God hates your team and that's why you lost, Satanic bastards" etc. No hoping, just praying to an evil, sports-avenging God.

Anyway I thought it was mean to show the little kid crying so much.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

hey felicity my heart was broken but I wasn't the one crying

I would've enjoyed seeing barry bonds cry though

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 04:16 (twenty-three years ago)

was bobby grich there?

heh ;)

Come on, Ally, the crying kid was cute. That's what 3-year-olds do.

I would've enjoyed seeing barry bonds cry though

He was crying on the inside. You can tell.

She got thrown out of the park for that. Still, though, it was funny.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:13 (twenty-three years ago)

wow, nu-Angels fans buy a lot of merch.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Disney knows how to market.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Speaking of Disney, who own ABC... they pulled a new episode of Alias at the very last second without any warning because Eisner didn't want a conflict of interests b/w his hottest show and his ball team. Talke aboute ye olde double whammie.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:49 (twenty-three years ago)

b-b-but we watched both at my house! luckily for mr eisner we had not seen all of that one before.

Josh (Josh), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 01:06 (twenty-three years ago)
