Klein's article also never really covered rich people tax deductions, effective corporate tax rates (after deductions), or the capital gains tax rate and who that benefits

he's only read this one but already he feels comfortable making inferences based on limited data.

Once again, Yglesias with the fresh, unconventional insights:

lag∞n, Friday, 27 December 2013 19:47 (twelve years ago)

the sad thing is he's actually probably one of the best things on slate, he's only really bad if you compare him to, yknow, good things

After consultation with the newspaper’s editor, Marty Baron, according to one of the people, he put forward a proposal with detailed revenue projections to build a new website dedicated to explanatory journalism on a wide range of topics beyond political policy. It would have been affiliated with The Post, the person said, but would have been a separate enterprise. The investment he sought, the person said, was in eight figures.

8 figures!

flopson, Friday, 3 January 2014 05:06 (twelve years ago)

Dude knows you can set up a wordpress blog for free, right?

Fiddler on a hot tin roof (ed.b), Friday, 3 January 2014 14:31 (twelve years ago)

yes but does the post

napgenius (goole), Friday, 3 January 2014 14:34 (twelve years ago)

the eight figures he was asking for sounds more like he wanted the post to just give him all the money and hed do it himself, where grantland and 538 prob have their own editorial budgets id imagine lots of their technical and promotional stuff is just handled by espn, like the site lives on their servers etc, the whole thing in some ways is just a branding exercise, sounds like klein wanted a more independent thing like what greenwald is doing cause if youre just gonna hire some reporters it not gonna cost $10m

lag∞n, Friday, 3 January 2014 14:39 (twelve years ago)

its interesting you see a lot of these sort of sub publications or sections or w/e like wonkblog or dealbook thatre kind of separate but still obvs under the banner of their parent publications, no one else seems to want to go as far as espn is going, they dont want to give up all their little links and logos all over the place

The strangest thing here is that 4 million pageviews a month is ... downright modest. http://www.politico.com/story/2014/01/ezra-klein-leaves-washington-post-102424.html

lag∞n, Tuesday, 21 January 2014 16:17 (twelve years ago)

i mean for a "blog" that's pretty good but it's certainly not sustaining a web site or anything

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 January 2014 16:21 (twelve years ago)

yeah i wonder if hes as famous as he thinks he is

lag∞n, Tuesday, 21 January 2014 16:22 (twelve years ago)

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 January 2014 16:23 (twelve years ago)

lag∞n, Tuesday, 21 January 2014 16:23 (twelve years ago)
