WTF with Marc Maron (it's a podcast)

Bill Hader's story about Martin Kove is awesome.

I've started two episodes of this (Fogerty, Stinson) and bailed out early both times.

Fogerty starts out rough -- Maron keeps saying "Yeah? Yeah?" to show that he's "listening" -- but gets a lot better about halfway through. Totally worth it.

I bailed on Hader. Marc was twitching too much for me early on so I said fuck it.

Yeah, this is one of my favorite episodes...mostly because Hader is a great storyteller, but it's so loose and casual and Marc isn't really a distraction at all.

I've never cared for Hader one way or the other so didn't feel like putting up with Maron today. Such is life.

Listening to the live WTF he posted Monday... getting a glimpse into Jim Norton's head is fucking terrifying.

Best not really comedian ones for me remain Stephen Tobolowsky and Todd Hanson. Both are remarkable, both sort of make you want to hug someone.

It's p great but Mr Veg totally fucked with my head - I got about halfway through and was telling him about the interview & he's all, 'You know he makes a ton of shit up, right?' and I knew that but I hadn't actually thought about it til right then

and now I'm listening and I'm like, huh. some of this does sound kinda bullshitty.

but wtf I'm enjoying it anyway so who cares

halfway through the Garry Shandling one and it's a bit disappointing. I'd rather listen to Shandling talk politics and Buddhism for an hour without being interrupted by Maron talking about his mother.

FYI Maron is being interviewed by Jeff Garlin live @ largo on Jeff's latest episode of 'By the way'. I haven't been able to listen to it yet because I can't deal with people who analyze themselves endlessly but I kind of want to because I know Jeff will give him total shit about it.

Robert Wuhl's stories about Dangerfield were great.

I haven't been super stoked to listen to any of the recent guests, but I'll queue up Baratunde next.

btw, I actually don't mind the constant digging for tidbits of Lorne Michaels information. I'm as curious about that guy as Marc is apparently.

The constant need to yeah yeah yeah uh huh uh yeah throughout the Robert Wuhl yeah yeah interview was driving me up a uh huh wall.

I'm interested in the people he interviews! Like you said, Wuhl's Rodney stories were amazing. But yeah yeah, I'm over Marc big time.

Wuhl's career was so terrible I kinda don't want to listen for fear I'll like him. But Rodney stories...

That will forever be the start and finish of my associations for Robert Wuhl. There was four(!) copies of that card in the first pack of Batman trading cards I ever bought.

am a little ways into the kirkwood interview -- it's nice! he sounds SOOO nervous though, it's kinda cute. makes me like him even more

The Monty Hall interview is stellar. I love the old comedy/show biz guys he gets - the interviews with Mel Brooks, Dick Van Dyke and Hall are just great, and you realize just how talented those dudes were, and how hard they worked back in the day.

Also - Maron has a healthy amount of respect/ reverence for those guys, so his interruptions are kept to a minimum.

i've been listening to jeff garlin's podcast, it's a nice change of pace from maron, but maron's episode is actually the funniest one so far. maybe that's when he's at his best comedically (for my tastes anyway), in conversation but when it's not his show so he's free to be a dick.

also if you think maron interrupts his guests, you have no idea.

I liked the Kirkwood interview for his input, but was pretty dissatisfied with Maron's end of things. "What do you think of Captain Beefheart?" "What do you think of Frank Zappa?" He just didn't ask very many great questions. Curt was amiable and gracious. Hope he's doing alright though. At points, he sounded like he was struggling a little to speak or something.

Loved the Kirkwood interview but "So, do you know how to pick?" cracked me up.

The first Garlin episode with Larry David was A++, I generally can't handle his interruptions with other guests though. So much worse than Maron.

I've interviewed Curt before, and he was super fun to speak with. Just talked and talked and talked.

He seems like a lovely kinda guy

I had to stop listening to the Henry Rollins appearance on Garlin. He really enjoyed laughing at his own jokes and only seemed vaguely aware of who Henry Rollins was.
