lol never noticed that.

i'm lost (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

seriously, i don't understand why people are such massive pussies about laugh tracks...after years of TV watching i honestly am hardly even conscious of it at all...it's like someone who lives by the airport for 20 years, they don't notice all the jets...

i *really* find it hard to believe that people can't just tune it out, unless you know, they've never watched TV before or something, but honestly this seems like some "OH did I mention I don't OWN a TELEVISION" or "OMG BACON CORNDOGS" style frontin' IMO

Yo, I just copped dat brand new Manity Kane cd. (M@tt He1ges0n), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 21:43 (seventeen years ago)

When it's overdone (too much for the joke, or attached to a line that wasn't really a joke at all) I notice it, and then can't un-notice it.

I've also heard that live shows sweeten the laughter, often because the scene used is the last of multiple takes, so the audience won't be laughing much by then. And to keep it at a consistant level throughout the show.

nickn, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

i honestly don't notice laugh tracks either

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 21:52 (seventeen years ago)

I don't, unless it's the one they used on multiple 70s/80s sitcoms with the guy with the honking "A-ooga!" laugh. That one's distracting.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 21:56 (seventeen years ago)

i don't feel like i normally notice it, which is why i remarked on its use on chuck lorre shows like two and a half men and big bang theory - if it stands out to me, they must be doing something extra with it. like they put it on full blast for the lamest jokes and leave it running for longer than other shows. dunno, just seems extra obnoxious on those dealies.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 21:58 (seventeen years ago)

Probably because those shows are plenty extra obnoxious on their own! (and the crapitude effect is magnified) Okay, I hate to add more Lorre talk on this thread, maybe someone should just start another one for all that stuff, people can reminisce about hating Dharma & Greg and how he composed the TMNT theme song.

Nhex, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

how come no one told me about the one with a threesome involving winnie cooper & kim kelly O_O

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Saturday, 21 February 2009 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

on the season 3 dvds, jason segel gets intentionally wasted before his commentary track and spends it sexually harassing one of the (male) writers (getting naked + putting a box of condoms on the table, etc.)

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Friday, 27 February 2009 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

dopest fukkin show yet imo

no country for heigel-lohan (Lamp), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 02:01 (seventeen years ago)

The Robin/kid angle was pretty funny this time, way better than the last time they tried this (i think it was early season 3, she was dating some single father or something).

Nhex, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 04:18 (seventeen years ago)

how come no one told me about the one with a threesome involving winnie cooper & kim kelly O_O

best thing about this episode:

Roz, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 04:50 (seventeen years ago)

What wow, how do I totally not remember that scene at all!

Nhex, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 05:06 (seventeen years ago)

ha, pretty sure that was an outtake

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 05:14 (seventeen years ago)

yeah but it's totally the best outtake ever!

Roz, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 09:11 (seventeen years ago)

It is! I also love how the audience reaction changes as they can't believe that they're actually going with this angle (which sadly they did not).

Nhex, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 10:51 (seventeen years ago)

the barney's family ep was a little bit too much of a wacky sitcom setup for me but still good. i lol'ed @ dramatic ted.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:12 (seventeen years ago)

haha ted being into brecht was lol v. much in character but this whole episode was beyond lol for me i thought it was brilliant and im bummed that no one else seems to think so

no country for heigel-lohan (Lamp), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

who didn't think so? was hilarious. the theme music!

cutty, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:22 (seventeen years ago)

i liked it

Freak Man (some dude), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

my so-called friends who were just like "eh s'ok". yah the "too wacky sitcom" shit was next level metajokery with the theme music and the runner about catch phrases and the sundae bar!!!

i mean i have like 1000-word type of posts to say about what a ridic episode this was and like why this show is better than 30 rock but no one even cares enough to repost one-liners

xpost

Lamp, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:26 (seventeen years ago)

i liked that the Barney thing with movie villains was almost a throwaway gag that they barely came back to later.

Freak Man (some dude), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

i care :(

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

i basically agree with jordan; schticky conceit rescued by strong barney and ted moments. karate kid joke was good

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

Daniel-san is pretty lame.

2nd-place ladyboy (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

i love it whenever they have dorky college ted, as in directing the christmas play in this episode

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

thought this was a fantastic episode

homie bhabha (max), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

the college flashbacks are hilar--i enjoy that they get around the censors by saying "we were so drunk" and then having them act stoned instead of drunk

homie bhabha (max), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

ive said this before but college ted = high school hoos

homie bhabha (max), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

also, i kind of hate her, but at the same time, allison hannigan could get it, in a major way

homie bhabha (max), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

oh def

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

clearly if they were using that as a getaround they'd use the sandwich gag again

Freak Man (some dude), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

CLEARLY

homie bhabha (max), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:42 (seventeen years ago)

clearly, the new actually

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

i'm just saying a) i am skeptical of your theory and b) the sandwich thing is one of my all-time favorite bits from the show

Freak Man (some dude), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

fyi i totally thought of the joke biters thread when they did that karate kid joke

one the biggest laughs for me was the reveal/end of the lily calls marshall's mother scene

Lamp, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

haha yeah definitely

Freak Man (some dude), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

im skeptical... of ur butt

homie bhabha (max), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

that's what was so great about theater ted, he was regressing to dorky/pretentious college ted.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

"the game is the game"

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

pretty weak episode imo

Lamp, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

yeah but the PANTS STORY!!! kidding. creepy gun-losing robin was fun though.. and did the episode REALLY end with ted re-dating laura prepon?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:49 (seventeen years ago)

"She was the heiress to the Massengill fortune."

mizzell, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

donna was pretty lame, but barney interrupting the flashback was pretty good, also "it's like, let's all eat baloney sandwiches and be racist"

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

"It's like, let's all eat baloney sandwiches and be racist"

mizzell, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

xp!

mizzell, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

i only laughed at that after i googled "massengill"

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

that line is perfectly timed to become the new bord description if nothing else
xxp

Lamp, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:52 (seventeen years ago)

The four worst things that could happen (plus one): (1) Supervolcano. (2) Asteroid hits the earth. (3) All footage of Evel Knievel is lost. (4) Ted calls Karen. (5) Lily gets eaten by a shark.

mizzell, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

i am totally OK with a Prepon arc if she continues to provoke Marshall/Lily hilarity

blame it on the HOOS got you steenin' loose (some dude), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:56 (seventeen years ago)
