I get abuse for being electronically immobile, but I'm not dense enough to live in post-climate change New York without A/C.

wait a sec the high was 94 yesterday. 103 would be crazy.
this is some "real feel" nonsense right?

chinavision!, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 15:21 (twelve years ago)

yeah high yesterday was just over 90 in lower manhattan

rain tomorrow allegedly

caek, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 15:29 (twelve years ago)

Yes, the official high in Central Park was 93 yesterday. Weather.com maintained that the temp in Tribeca around 4pm was 103. Now they have erased that and say it was 94. They are the most inept bunch of amateurs on the face of the earth.

and the 'severe thunderstorms' are coming Saturday, they claim.

the "feel" in toronto is 109 apparently (43) but it's technically only 89 (32). so thankful to have dragged AC out of closet and installed in office the other day! hiding in this one, almost slightly cooler room. Instantly sweaty in all other rooms.

I don't know if this belongs in the Hyperbole by Dr. Morbius or Hyperbole by The Weather Channel thread.

marcos, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 15:53 (twelve years ago)

how often do we get a legit high of 100 in nyc? 5 or 6 days per year?

caek, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

not that often . . . yet

mookieproof, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 16:55 (twelve years ago)

It's stormed with heavy rain every day for what seems like a month straight. I couldn't be happier. But I realize Summer still has two months to try to murder me.

emilys., Wednesday, 17 July 2013 22:16 (twelve years ago)

Summertime, I dread those. Imagine a bomb going off and waiting for the smoke to clear, and it's the same around here with thunderstorm/humidity.

pplains, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 23:23 (twelve years ago)

I wish it would storm here or else I'm going to have to go water the flowers.

Lawyer... SUAVE... (carl agatha), Wednesday, 17 July 2013 23:27 (twelve years ago)

I've always been a fan of "the natural look" -- to hell with those neighbors and their fancy zoisa grass, lawn sprinklers and weekly landscapers.

Google recently updated the street view of my neighborhood to when we've been living in this house and Good Lord. (I'm on the right.)

Is "temperature 'feel' consultant" like, a paying gig? Who is feeling this higher temperature, anyway?

Side question: do you all have central A/C, only in your bedroom, or not at all? And if you chose only in your bedroom, do you sweat it out on the outside or basically live in your bedroom? (I sweat it out...I have never had air flow in any New York apts I've lived in for 25 years)

Iago Galdston, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 23:33 (twelve years ago)

We had 17 straight days of rain in Cleveland and now have not seen a drop in 5 days, but we've had a heat index over 90. I just don't even know anymore.

it itches like a porky pine sitting on your dick (Phil D.), Wednesday, 17 July 2013 23:36 (twelve years ago)

I don't really know, but have mostly assumed "feels like" includes humidity, perhaps changes in the temp due to reflected asphalt, stuff that a basic thermometer may not take into account

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 17 July 2013 23:43 (twelve years ago)

This actual temp vs "feels like" temp is bs. How come where I leave, where it's been unseasonably mild for the most part, I haven't heard pray tell about the Wind Chill? "It's really 95º, but on the lake, it feels like 88º."

My daughter and I go through this with her ceiling fan. I tell her to only turn it on when she's in the room. But she wants the room to stay cool when she's not there. It's not any cooler, it just feels cooler and her stuffed animals dgaf.

pplains, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 23:48 (twelve years ago)

where i live. hi dere

pplains, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 23:48 (twelve years ago)

Hot with a cough, in the dark with a moth.

cardamon, Thursday, 18 July 2013 00:15 (twelve years ago)

I associate this with new york, cuz when I started temping here it happened in every office I worked in: everybody would quote the "feels like" as the actual temp.
in the summer: "wow it's gonna get up to 113 today!" "hey bet you're missing california with this heat at 115 degrees huh"
it made me insane

chinavision!, Thursday, 18 July 2013 00:21 (twelve years ago)

i am from new york and i totally agree--it's endemic here. but i actually never hear anyone use it anymore thank god. i think people en masse silently realized how stupid it was

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 18 July 2013 00:24 (twelve years ago)

hey it's not a competition guys

chinavision!, Thursday, 18 July 2013 00:26 (twelve years ago)

Flowers watered.

The natural look would be counterproductive as these are flowering annuals I planted in pots on our back deck so I would have something pretty to look at when I am (doo doo doo) looking out my back door. If I let them die, then I would be sad every time I looked outside and I'm sad enough in the summer as it is.

pplains, Thursday, 18 July 2013 01:38 (twelve years ago)

I was gonna sympathize about NYC's 100+ heat but then I saw the humidity was only 30%

Fuck you guys

乒乓, Thursday, 18 July 2013 03:31 (twelve years ago)

at midnight it was 86°f w/ 55% rel. humidity

anyway air that hot can really pack in the moisture, so it doesn't take much 'relative' humidity

mookieproof, Thursday, 18 July 2013 04:35 (twelve years ago)

tbf it's 80% at 90 f in hong kong this week

caek, Thursday, 18 July 2013 04:40 (twelve years ago)

Dew point's the thing.

100F & 30% RH means dew point is 64F

90F & 80% RH = DP of 83F, which is just heinous.

Dew point Over 80 °F Severely high. Even deadly for asthma related illnesses. Find nearest suicide booth.

potatoes-in-law (Je55e), Thursday, 18 July 2013 19:46 (twelve years ago)

Agreed its all about the dew point. the past couple of days in little rock have been near 100F and I've had no trouble wearing a cardigan.
