the entire week in the NY area is going to be in the 90s (RealFeel® 120º), and i have no air conditioning in my bedroom. this will be fun.

if you have multiple windows get some fans. like said i haven't turned on the AC yet this summer and it really hasn't been too bad. we do have multiple fans and even if it's like 92 in the apartment having air circulating makes a big difference

Spectrum: Freeze a large soda bottle full of water, wrap in a dish towel, and sleep with it in your arms/held against your chest if you can sleep that way. Put ice packs on your pulse points for reals: forehead, neck, wrists, behind your knees. If your bed is literally too hot to comfortably sleep on, soak a bath towel in cold water and lie on it with the fan turned on you. None of this will make you subjectively comfortably cool but it will objectively bring your body temp down.

Also read that you can wet a bandana and wrap it around your neck then sit/lie in front of a fan to keep yourself cool. The evaporating water cools the blood at your jugular and makes the rest of you cooler, or something.

Misery loves company: a week ago I was telling S that I wasn't going to make it through a Baja summer and that we were going to have to GTFO much sooner than anticipated. Now that I've seen the temps back home in DC, I am feeling more amenable to sticking around.

There is something especially maddening about being in what looks like paradise (gorgeous beach, mountains, huge crazy cacti) but you are afraid to go out into it during daylight hours. Like, hey, I should be out paddleboarding or fishing or whatevs, but oops can't do that why because death.

In the tub. If I drink a little more whiskey I fall asleep faster. But then I prob wake up earlier.

How low can I get my core temp for max sleep?

I get abuse for being electronically immobile, but I'm not dense enough to live in post-climate change New York without A/C.

I do this to myself, but honestly I kind of enjoy it.

Yes, the official high in Central Park was 93 yesterday. Weather.com maintained that the temp in Tribeca around 4pm was 103. Now they have erased that and say it was 94. They are the most inept bunch of amateurs on the face of the earth.

the "feel" in toronto is 109 apparently (43) but it's technically only 89 (32). so thankful to have dragged AC out of closet and installed in office the other day! hiding in this one, almost slightly cooler room. Instantly sweaty in all other rooms.

It's stormed with heavy rain every day for what seems like a month straight. I couldn't be happier. But I realize Summer still has two months to try to murder me.

Summertime, I dread those. Imagine a bomb going off and waiting for the smoke to clear, and it's the same around here with thunderstorm/humidity.

I wish it would storm here or else I'm going to have to go water the flowers.

I've always been a fan of "the natural look" -- to hell with those neighbors and their fancy zoisa grass, lawn sprinklers and weekly landscapers.

Is "temperature 'feel' consultant" like, a paying gig? Who is feeling this higher temperature, anyway?

Side question: do you all have central A/C, only in your bedroom, or not at all? And if you chose only in your bedroom, do you sweat it out on the outside or basically live in your bedroom? (I sweat it out...I have never had air flow in any New York apts I've lived in for 25 years)

We had 17 straight days of rain in Cleveland and now have not seen a drop in 5 days, but we've had a heat index over 90. I just don't even know anymore.

I don't really know, but have mostly assumed "feels like" includes humidity, perhaps changes in the temp due to reflected asphalt, stuff that a basic thermometer may not take into account
