"It astounds me that people think there is some sort of meta-comedic explanation that would somehow make this OK."

if it had been funny and the hecklers had laughed and stayed for the rest of the show it would have been okay.

it all seems to go back to Richards vitriol..like he was uncorking a moonshine bottle full of years of pent up scrunched against the wind collar walking thru L.A. homeboys yellin Kramer at him..HE HATES TO BE CALLED KRAMER

FOr a second I thought Lenny KRavitz was fucking a shaved centaur.

jaymc - I wasn't really referring to your posts, just a couple of the ones waaaay upthread that hinted at some "humorous" explanation for it. I just don't think he was being that clever.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, Whoopi basically nicely asked him to shut up so that she could say her line and he responded by calling her Condi Rice and then talking with some combination of ghetto / tribal savage accent like in old Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Actually in a hotel room over the weekend I caught Billy Crystal pretending he was a jass musician/Katrina refugee and making Louis Armstrong faces, it was wack as fuck.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

I hate sharing a hotel room with Billy.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

What were you doing in his room?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

(RIGHT XPOST)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I knew that was coming right after I hit submit.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

Robin Williams is all spontaneous, right? Well, it appears that spontaneously, he just thinks talking like a "black man" is hilarious in itself. He's not saying anything funny. He's just talking like a "black man." It makes me want to fucking smack him. But, he always has that effect on me.

Bobby Ganush (Uri Frendimein), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

now you know how we feel

songs and ballads of the bituminous miners (sanskrit), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:52 (nineteen years ago)

no, it's just that he's such a good black man impersonator!

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:52 (nineteen years ago)

I just don't think he was being that clever.

It's certainly a long way to go to sell the punchline "That's what happens when you interrupt the white man, don't you know?" But hey, teh kidz loves the "squirm comedy" right?

literalisp (literalisp), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, you don't like him either, eh?

"It's certainly a long way to go to sell the punchline "That's what happens when you interrupt the white man, don't you know?"

he was making it up as he went along! that's why it's so excruciating. dude neds a script to be funny.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 20 November 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

even more damning is that kramer used to be in an improv comedy duo with the whitest man alive:

Say what you want about Chris Rock, but he really helped out Bobby Hill when he played "Buddha Sack" in King of The Hill:

BOBBY: Hey, I've been working on some new material. Check it out. "White people think the 'hood is something on their sweatshirts." And "How come the cops always be pullin' me over? What's up with that?"
BUDDHA SACK: Bobby, let me give you a little constructive criticism: You're not black.
BOBBY: Oh. Okay.

mike a (mike a), Monday, 20 November 2006 22:00 (nineteen years ago)

he was making it up as he went along! that's why it's so excruciating.

That's really a small part of why it's excruciating.

BUDDHA SACK: I got something called freedom of speech. Ever heard of the first amendment? Thomas Jefferson be turning over in his grave right now, and the slave ladies on top!
HANK: Now, see here, Thomas Jefferson was a founding father! He designed and built his own house!

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Monday, 20 November 2006 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

HANK: Excuse me, sir, I don't mean to criticize your lesson plan, but do you have a lesson plan?
BUDDHA SACK: You sayin' a black man can't put together a lesson plan? Well, here's my lesson plan: I ain't planning on teaching less'n you shut up!

O.J. Simpson Book, TV Special Canceled by News Corp. (Update1)

By Cecile Daurat

Nov. 20 (Bloomberg) -- O.J. Simpson's new book and television special were canceled by News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch, who called the project ``ill-considered.''

The book ``If I Did It,'' where Simpson described how he would have murdered his wife and her friend Ronald L. Goldman, was to be released by ReganBooks, a publishing company owned by News Corp., on Nov. 30.

``I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project,'' Murdoch said today in an e-mailed statement.

Simpson was acquitted in the 1994 killings of his wife and Goldman. Family members of Goldman and Nicole Brown-Simpson spoke out against the book and TV show planned for the Fox broadcasting network when they were announced earlier this month.

``We are sorry for any pain this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown-Simpson,'' Murdoch said in the statement.

Class A shares of News Corp. fell 17 cents to $21.10 at 3:50 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. They had gained 37 percent this year before today.

Thanks for this thread today, guys. This is just the kind of madness I reside in a perpetual state of stokedness for.

hahaha i actually want to start arguing the things that stet and jaymc and Uri say that people here are arguing: that kramer is a consciously dyed-in-the-wool racist who has kept schtum for years and is so relentless and obsessive about, about his RACISM that he can never shake it from his soul

because it probably wouldn't be difficult

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 20 November 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

wait, i'm thinking of "scatman"

songs and ballads of the bituminous miners (sanskrit), Monday, 20 November 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

haha I have a friend w/ Tourette's who was involuntarily obsessed with that song, for like a year he was a twitching scatman impersonating machine

stoked for the madness (nickalicious), Monday, 20 November 2006 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

Kramer: "Bro's no good. Too ethnic."
Frank: "You got something better?"
Kramer: "How about the Mansiere?"
Frank: "Mansiere."
Kramer: "That's right. A brassiere for a man."

Gerard (Gerard), Monday, 20 November 2006 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

all we need now is a racist Scatman Crothers caricature

songs and ballads of the bituminous miners (sanskrit), Monday, 20 November 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

haha, omg Nick

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 20 November 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

For like 2 years there was a Scatman record on the wall of the local record store. I convinced the dude who worked there to take it down because if people didn't like Scatman for those two years, they won't like him now.
