first time seeing this thread and i fit in here to a T.
these days before I leave the house I usually pat my pockets &tc four or five times just to make sure I have my wallet, phone and keys because the number of times i have mislaid or forgotten one or a combination of the three is too many to mention
a few months ago I withdrew money from an ATM and then forgot to actually put the cash in my wallet
― monotony, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 04:54 (twelve years ago)
have you ever left your debit card in the ATM machine? i've done that twice. what happens is the card gets sucked back into the machine and destroyed.
― Treeship, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 04:56 (twelve years ago)
haven't done that, generally my ATM asks me to "insert and remove" my card which i guess is a good safeguard against what happened to you.
― monotony, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 04:58 (twelve years ago)
3 times
hi

the card is sometimes retained by the bank, and then you can go into the bank and spend an hour trying to prove who you are in order to get it back.

I occasionally put toast on a plate and then put the plate in the cabinet.

On Monday I forgot (at least, I think I forgot) to put on deodorant and my spare was not in my work bag as usual so I felt I ought to take a half-hour round trip to the nearest deodorant-selling shop at lunchtime
Today I forgot to sign into work like we're supposed to on the way in
Bit worried about what I'll forget tomorrow morning tbh

haha. those'll come in useful, i'm sure of it.
On Monday I forgot (at least, I think I forgot) to put on deodorant
i was forgetting to put on deodorant so often that i've come to just give up on it. it's working out! ... i think? i hope it's stage one in the transformation of my life to a level where everything that i could conceivably forget to do, i just don't do.

I ordered a new chequebook two weeks ago and haven't used it yet. I just found a chequebook with only one cheque used. Which means I'm going to be charged for ordering an extra chequebook. AGAIN.
Those envelopes are pretty awesome, if likely to be a little sweary for business mail and elderly relatives.

ugh the absent-minded chickens came home to roostgot in the car this morning and found stuff strewn around all over, glove compartment open, stuff all over the floor. I had gone to the store late last night, and clearly, I forgot to lock the car when I got home. Luckily all they took was our stash of parking-meter quarters - we don't keep anything else of value in the car. But I mean, fuck it could have been stolen outright or they could have smashed it up with the clublock in the backseat or whatever they wantedbut stillffffuuuuuuuuuu
I'm already kinda ocd about locking the car, I repeat-lock remotely with the keyfob 2 or 3 times in a row most days. except last night :/
oh and mr veg locked himself out of the house yesterday afternoon while I was having fun at the fair riding the ferris wheel. so I had to cut my fair time short to rush home and let him in the house. doh.
house of veg did not have a very good day yesterday, haha

sometimes being neurotic about locking your door can be detrimental - i was home alone and went out to the car to look for something. just out of pure habit that i've drilled into myself, i turned the lock as i was closing the door, and of course the wheels in my brain turned literally at the very moment the door closed. i had to sit in the car and wait for ytth to come home from work :/

Hoping that I cant really have walked across town to the 4th shop that sells 2000AD only to leave it on the counter before realising I.'d left something more important back in town. Anyway cant find it now. Will ring them in the morning.
― Stevolende, Saturday, 27 July 2013 00:05 (twelve years ago)
leave what on the counter?

RAng them this morning and I did indeed leave the mag on the counter so have to go back and get it. Can't believe taht, leaving cards in machines then leaving comics on counters. Hope I ain't got a tumour on the go, seem to forget things mid task. & I walked about a mile out of my way for that 2000AD which makes it all the more worrying.
Keep going and refilling the bottle of water from beside my bed, then washing and walking out without the bottle. Same with the electric toothbrush when I'm intending to recharge it. God, am I getting old?

Went into sister's apartment to drop off kitty litter I'd bought, scooped the cat's box into a bag and then left the bag sitting on the stove full of poop. Cute kitty distracted me. Sister of the year right here!

This morning I went to the corner store, grabbed an empty coffee cup, and held it up to the atm machine for a solid second before I realized that wasn't where coffee comes from.

this past Sunday I left my bankcard in an atm machine...the same atm machine that I have left my card in TWICE before. it's one of those ones that gives you your cash and receipt before it gives you your card and I always try not to go there why bcz every time I do I leave my card in it
;_;

Dark last night when I was driving home (tbf, first time in months) - couldn't get the dashboard light to dim and suddenly realized the headlights weren't on. Pulled over and had to use phone in flashlight mode to figure out how to turn them on. Poor old brain, losing it :-(
― Jaq, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 12:16 (twelve years ago)
oh no ljub... did the chicken taste like baked plastic, too?
― Lawyer... SUAVE... (carl agatha), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 13:14 (twelve years ago)
No - I have no idea how I missed it when I put the whole kaboodle in the oven, but the knife was lying neatly next to the chicken, rather than inside it. The chicken was originally in a bag and I'd used the knife to cut that open.
― ljubljana, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 13:20 (twelve years ago)
At least the chicken was spared!
One of my old apartments had a tiny kitchen and I invited people over for dinner, which included corn on the cob, and having nothing else to do with the plate of spent cobs (why didn't I throw them away, I am wondering now) I stuck them in the oven where I completely forgot about them until a couple months later when I preheated the oven for something. But that's less about being absent minded and more about how rarely I cooked.
― Lawyer... SUAVE... (carl agatha), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 13:25 (twelve years ago)
Once I left beets roasting in the oven overnight. The smell next morning is not a smell I ever want to smell again.

Went to a really nice hotel in Toronto with Mrs Chuck and had a much-needed relax in the downstairs sauna and steam room.
Then -- I know, I'll turn the shower tap on and get some cold water in here -- OUCH WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS THIS TAP BURNING ME??? Maybe because it's not the shower tap but the steam nozzle I just saw ALL THE HOT STEAM COME OUT OF THIRTY SECONDS AGO.
The burn's mostly gone down now :/
― Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)
last weekend I exceeded past performance. classic absentminded 10 from the swedish judges.
I was making a pot of coffee. I put the beans in the grinder, but almost as soon as they started grinding I was thinking to myself, I really should have filled the coffee maker up with water first. (not that it matters but suddenly this was very important thought in my head)
when the beans were done grinding I promptly dumped the container of coffee grounds into the water reservoir of the coffee maker.

Bought some jeans from the Gap without trying them on ("well, they're my size, that'll do"), came home with a pair of women's super skinny pants.

I hope I someday can miss a flight and not feel stressed about it. You have a gift, Lex! I'm such an anxious flier (it's not even the whole flying part - it's all the hassle and bullshit leading up to the plane taking off) that I don't think it will ever happen.
