Rush is just a doofus. Most right-wingers who listen to him (who i've encountered) are aware that he's an entertainer first and foremost.
Uh, given what happened to that Congressbro who said something bad about Rush and then had to go begging forgiveness, I find this hard to believe.
― Pancakes Hackman, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 21:28 (fifteen years ago) link
rush is mock-heroic and grandiose and all, and while i'm sure he has a high opinion of himself i don't think he buys into his spiel even as he expects his audience to do so. o'reilly/olberman/hannity/savage do a lot of bullshit riffing too but i hear them as being more 'into it'. rush would be most like ann coulter in that respect, in my opinion, though her persona is more spiteful than self-aggrandizing.

Hannity, Beck, Schnitt, et al are "serious" because they rarely joke! Meanwhile the Rush listeners I know consider him an entertaining soothsayer.

Oh man try and find one pundit that has an audience who doesn't believe what they're saying most of the time (except for maybe the Comedy Central parody ones, and even then...). Peeps take them really seriously & it's amazing how influential their opinions are on most of their audience.
Also I can't get listening to these dudes for the lols. I'm getting tired of even Keitho and stuff, I just can't handle the smug.

and again, i'm reducing it down to folks i know personally (family, ex-coworkers), and while they agree with Rush on basic matters, they can sort of chuckle at his blowhard-ness ("lol that scoundrel etc").
OTOH I've got grandparents who think those fuckos on Fox are really giving it ot them straight.

Keith is getting on my nerves, it's true. I think the last time I watched three nights in a row, he dedicated a good five minutes each night to attacking O'Reilly. They both need a time out to learn to behave, because daddy has better things to do than listen to you kids.

A thing that bothers me about Keith, and this is totally silly, is that he calls Bill O'reilly 'Billo.' This bcz the name Billo only makes me think of a cute baby hippo. I don't know why. So Keith associating Bill O'Reilly with that cute hippo, it just kills me!

tipping would have just encouraged you to stay in your lowly job, rather than striving for the greatness rush saw within you. teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a day. kick 'im in the balls, he won't think about how hungry he is for at least 15 or 20 minutes.

Also - if you ever find yourself trapped in SE Missouri, you can always do this:
Rush Limbaugh Hometown Tour Cape Girardeau is the hometown of radio phenomenon Rush Limbaugh. Our self-driving tour will take you past the hospital where Rush was born and his childhood home. You will see where he attended school and cruised Broadway, traditional during Rush's high school days. Included is the barbershop where he shined shoes and the radio station where the record-breaking broadcaster started his career.View the sites that influenced Rush's early years. For more information on self-driving tour, call the Convention and Visitors Bureau at (800) 777-0068.
I guess they decided to leave out the college he attended and flunked out of.

“If homosexuality being inborn is what makes it acceptable, why does racism being inborn not make racism acceptable?” the talk show host asked. “I’m sorry — I mean, this is the way my mind works. But apparently now we don’t choose racism, we just are racists. We are born that way. We don’t choose it. So shouldn’t it be acceptable, excuse — this is according to the way the left thinks about things."

Referring to an incident in which a white student was beaten by black students on a bus, Limbaugh said: “I think the guy’s wrong. I think not only it was racism, it was justifiable racism. I mean, that’s the lesson we’re being taught here today. Kid shouldn’t have been on the bus anyway. We need segregated buses — it was invading space and stuff. This is Obama’s America.”

I listened to the linked audio clip. It was incoherent, but I didn't think he was calling for segregated buses. He was mocking Pres. Obama. That is, I thought he was sarcastically saying "In Obama's new America, we ought to have segregated buses, to keep the racist white kids away from the innocent black kids." Now, that's also bats--t crazy, but I got the impression from reading the comments upthread that Limbaugh was saying that white kids need to be on separate buses to protect them from violent black kids. Frankly, I assume he would say something like that. But I didn't hear him say it in the clip.
