I'm reading Vonnegut's "Slapstick". Probably finishing it today because I have a backlog of books i need to read ("Divine Comedy", "Neuromancer", Gandhi's autobio, Time Life's "Trees"). Thrift store bookshelves have been very good to me lately.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yeah I'm really into Sega Genesis games cos I never had one as a kid and have been emulating Castlevania, Gunstar Heroes, and the Shinobi series a LOT recently.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:11 (thirteen years ago)

Gunstar Heroes is so rad!!

shohreh aja/danteloo (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:16 (thirteen years ago)

adam B, when i had a sega genesis i was super into the aladdin game. highly recommended platform game. i don't think i ever beat the magic carpet/lava level tho.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:34 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yeah the animation on that is brilliant. Done by the Disney animators! Haven't played that in decades.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:41 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, that is a good one and the Lion King one too iirc.

The tricky part is finding like only-for-Genesis games bcz most of the ones that were also released on SNES were much better on SNES (are there any exceptions to this? Besides maybe some extra blood in Mortal Kombat or something?).

All the Sonics are C as fuck though

shohreh aja/danteloo (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

the original Mortal Kombat was much better on Genesis

mh, Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

thomas pynchon. reading the oeuvre in advance of the new book...amazing, amazing writer

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 27 June 2013 22:18 (thirteen years ago)

The Genesis Castlevania is the best of the series imo. Fastest play, smoothest controls, and great graphic gimmicks that put Mode 7 to shame. Plus you travel around Europe! The music is way better than the SNES one as well, which is no small shakes.

Apparently the Contra is great too but i haven't tried it.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 27 June 2013 22:20 (thirteen years ago)

the sound chip for the genesis is the same as the yamaha dx-7 iirc, so it sounds better than most snes music — but the snes games had better composers working on them.

Dead Sea Apes, looking forward to the collaboration with Black Tempest. But Dead Sea Apes themselves are very interesting atmospheric instrumental band. Not sure how they view the idea of post-rock but some people might fit them in with it.
Grateful Dead May 1977 still pretty decent at the point and thankfully I haven't come across much Disco Dead so far. Really not into that aspect of them, they were a fantastic improvisatory rock group though.

not into landlords who suddenly decide to change over bin collections when you've had the same set up for all the time you've been in a place through at least 4 landlords. & you have payment sorted which it won't be if anything goes wrong with this. Or needing to get it on paper that the payment is being sorted by the landlord so he doesn't just change his mind a little down the line.

And I've got 2 more eps of FLCL and then I'm starting Paranoia Agent :-D
