I've been to the Reddit front page with all good intentions of giving it a try,However, the home page alone is so ugly and overwhelming I've never gone any further.

Reddit is a place where nerdy people are looking for acceptance from other nerdy people and the actual percentage of people that actually buy merch like that purely for their own amusement is likely extremely low.

Like, I bet everyone is secretly sick of the Nicholas-Cage-face-makes-X-funny but it's all these desperate people trying to please everyone else:

I'm not a knee-jerk reddit hater like most of the people on here, so that wasn't the point.

The Nicholas Cage thing is an example because it is done so often it is many times not-so-funny.

Usually it is someone just throwing his face onto a shirt randomly and at this point the popularity of the phenomenon has made it so it is no longer fresh absurdist humor and is merely the equivalent of relying on quoting popular movies at parties to get attention.

And this applies to the lifecycle of most things on reddit, like zelda shields or rage comic faces etc.

And yeah, that imgur link is funny because, while being literally about tacking on a picture of Nicholas Cage to something, the context of the situation makes it hilarious.

i used to dislike reddit but then it turned out they have a large enough posting population that they have active forums for all kinds of things we can't really support on ilx. it makes a nice supplementary forum for really niche interests.

i misunderstood 'things we can't really support on ilx' as a reference to like all the gross sexist/racist/etc subreddits

like for instance they have more geopolitical chatter than we do here, also more ppl from countries that aren't the US/UK/Canada. also they have an active forum just to discuss netrunner lcg. also other stuff that interests me that i want to discuss but ilx posting base is too small.
