Dr Pepper is great and this thread made me buy one. Used to get one every day but have been getting Coke instead lately for some reason. Damn my fizzy drink addiction. (Oh hi I am British)

Kind of addicted to the Fentiman's one. Drink I had recently which most resembled cough mixture: corner shop pre-mixed "strawberry daiquiri", £3.

I really wanted to like root beer as a kid because of reading Peanuts comics and because I thought it would be similar to ginger beer (so good), but root beer is no ginger beer.

Sometimes - rarely - see DXM-containing cough medicine behind the counter at chemists in the UK but I think you need a doctor's prescription and I've never heard of anyone being written a prescription for cough medicine.

I routinely take more than the recommended dose of cough syrup when sick. The one time I purposefully drank a bottle of cough syrup back in college, I laid down for a nap then woke up two hours before I went to sleep. My mom called and I was having trouble breathing on the phone with her, but I convinced her it was because I had been doing "exercises" which lol because I'd never exercised a day in my life at that point. Afterward, I huddled under a blanket for like 5 hours listening to the theme from Terminator 2 on repeat and then So What by Ministry on repeat, drinking gallons of water, and getting some pretty bitchin visuals.

Once on a trip to the Boy Scout Jamboree, we stopped at 7-11 and I got a Big Gulp of Dr. Pepper. We got back out to the car and were driving down the road when I took my first sip: it was all syrup, no carbonation. It absolutely tasted like cough syrup in its undiluted form. Just tossed it out at the next rest stop.

Birch beer is big in Delaware, too. People always forget Delaware when discussing Mid-Atlantic/northeast regionalisms and where hurricanes are going to make landfall. :(

Cream soda is disgusting. For some reason the place where I took riding lessons when I was little had all these strange sodas in a vending machine and one of them was cream and my mom always got it and oh god it's so gross. Cool story, I know.

skoal xtra rich blend, after an initial burst of fruit punch-y artificial berry flavor fades out in the first few spits, tastes as close to a 50/50 blend of robitussin maximum strength and diet dr. pepper as you could ever want.

My first experience drinking DP had it served hot, and as far as I knew it was meant to be served only this way. This was probably 1966 or 67, and it may have been another couple years before I had it again. It seems weird now, but I think this was a thing back then. Anyone else hear of drinking it hot?

I was kid at the time, so no shots. Don't remember any adults sneaking booze into it either, but then I probably wouldn't have noticed. I kind of remember their ad campaign saying "drink it hot or cold!" or something like that.
