I remember really wanting to taste dr pepper because it really seemed so weird. Then I tasted it, and it wasn't good at all. Cherry-something but different. No, I don't think it tastes like medicine, but then again, it's been ages since I had any medicine, I can hardly remember what it tastes like. Root Beer tastes like toothpaste. It's absolutely horrible.

Not really. It has about 15% more than the equivalent amount of Coke, and a third as much as a cup of coffee. Pepsi Max is the major-brand soda with the most caffeine in it.

and yeah... it's the best diet soda hands down.

you probably get toothpaste from root beer because it has a wintergreen component which is more pronounced in certain brands.

I was hoping I could get cream soda from the magic soda machine at the movie theater tonight but they didn't have it so I settled for vanilla root beer instead. Good second choice.

And I miss Mr. Pibb. Never, ever seen it anywhere in the northeast.

Mr Pibb is available in the it makes everything soda machine in my local 5 guys, whether it is pulling from the same syrup box as Dr Pepper I couldn't say.

i always feel like some old fart asking for a sarsaparilla or something when i order a mr pibb cuz it's been 'pibb xtra' for over ten years and i know whatever kid is taking the order is thinking 'wtf w/ this old weirdo anthropomorphizing his dr pepper knockoff'.

I've always been to scared of Moxie to try it. EZ saying that is tastes like Marmite is not helping.

I've never had regular DP but diet dr. pepper is great. I always forget that and rarely get it though.

Birch beer is gnarly as fuck, and ppl think it's the same damn thing as root beer. Restaurants serving you birch beer when you ask for root beer is one of the cruelest things a restaurant can do.

I've never seen birch beer outside New England & New York.

I used to make a drink I called the paint thinner - Gordon's gin and Polar birch beer. It was wonderful.

the paint thinner sounds good. birch beer is a huge deal in nj, or seems to be.

Dr. Pepper does not taste like medicine, but it does have a peculiar and somewhat vivid taste that I can only take so much of at a time. I am American.

My Mormon friends growing up always drank root beer because of its natural caffeine free-ness.

I remember liking Dr Slice, it tasted less like medicine.

it is the best soda, and it's not totally rare in bagel places outside NY/new england, at least here in md. sometimes i see it in grocery stores!

tbh the color of the soda itself is enough to make it awesome even if it didn't taste awesome (but it does)

I remember now that I had birch beer in Baltimore. The color threw me off because the Polar brand I grew up with was colorless.

I like Dr. Pepper and don't think it tastes like medicine, but I have also drank bottles of cough syrup recreationally (dxm, not codeine) so my perspective might be off.

XPOSTS Egads, I used to get Dr. Slice at Builder's Square w/my dad. I would actually go with him so I could buy it there, cause that was one of the only places you could get it in bottles. 79 cents it cost.

I chased Black Velvet with Dr Pepper waaay too much when I was 18-19 that I cant drink it anymore without tasting whisky. If I get it from some gas station soda fountain, in a cup w/ ice, then I literally will start making a face w every sip.

(I also downed a bottle or three of generic brand Tussin DM but that was when I was 20)

Anyways, I vote no/ American.

Kind of addicted to the Fentiman's one. Drink I had recently which most resembled cough mixture: corner shop pre-mixed "strawberry daiquiri", £3.

I really wanted to like root beer as a kid because of reading Peanuts comics and because I thought it would be similar to ginger beer (so good), but root beer is no ginger beer.

Sometimes - rarely - see DXM-containing cough medicine behind the counter at chemists in the UK but I think you need a doctor's prescription and I've never heard of anyone being written a prescription for cough medicine.
