A fairly easy one:

Dubrovnik?

Neil S, Monday, 10 June 2013 13:50 (thirteen years ago)

Not Dubrovnik.

хуто-хуторянка (ShariVari), Monday, 10 June 2013 13:58 (thirteen years ago)

I realise that saying it's relatively easy is a) probably not true and b) potentially misleading, now. I'm pretty sure some ILXors will have been there though.

shohreh aja/danteloo (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 24 June 2013 22:23 (thirteen years ago)

Ha, I did that too (I think it's in Japan somewhere)

ailsa, Monday, 24 June 2013 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

is the underground transit mass grave scene in the background of dayo's pic one of those dancing gorilla things you only see if you are concentrating specifically on it or is there another reason nobody is mentioning it

daft on the causes of punk (schlump), Monday, 24 June 2013 22:28 (thirteen years ago)

http://bit.ly/12lNbO1 i just got 10,890 on this. Challenge my score!

http://bit.ly/16vwSTo 18726. Weird how we ended up almost exactly the same distance from the random bit of landmark-free countryside in Canada.

ailsa, Monday, 24 June 2013 23:07 (thirteen years ago)

10387 ooh

Ste, Monday, 24 June 2013 23:17 (thirteen years ago)

maybe should be a separate thread, don't want to derail this one

I wondered that, but I didn't mention it because no-one was mentioning it.

ailsa, Monday, 24 June 2013 23:19 (thirteen years ago)

is it cheating to use another browser window to google stuff like names of businesses and towns or is that part of the game?

shohreh aja/danteloo (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 24 June 2013 23:43 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, I totally do that. Makes up for the times when you land on a random stretch of highway with nothing but trees in sight.

I googled a business and got 0.147 km away and 6500 points

Enh it just started to feel like cheating. I preferred the game when you couldn't explore around

interesting. i've never known anyone who uploads to panoramio but it seems quite popular as a post-holiday thing in continental europe.

the terrain, fortresses, some of the other buildings suggest adriatic coast within the venetian sphere of influence

is it even a city, it looks fairly small

Lama Bloody SwagYurt (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 15 September 2013 14:29 (twelve years ago)

surely we do not need a 'guess the hamlet' thread

乒乓, Sunday, 15 September 2013 14:35 (twelve years ago)

half of the assumptions in your post were correct, aye

乒乓, Sunday, 15 September 2013 14:38 (twelve years ago)

乒乓, Sunday, 15 September 2013 15:10 (twelve years ago)

city in the old world is an ecclesiastical term so some places with mediaeval or earlier significance are cities even if they are smallish today, in contrast to that place which seems to derive its importance from being written about 50 yrs ago

Lama Bloody SwagYurt (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 15 September 2013 15:25 (twelve years ago)

no cathedral no credibility as pope urban iv used to say

Lama Bloody SwagYurt (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 15 September 2013 15:27 (twelve years ago)

not obscure but a pleasing picture:

Not really valid for a guess-the-city game, but I figured this would be as good a place to talk about this as any:

REDACTED got your back (flamboyant goon tie included), Monday, 7 October 2013 13:05 (twelve years ago)

a friend of mine just got back from there and says all online information is incorrect and it is an empty, ghost city where nobody lives

REDACTED got your back (flamboyant goon tie included), Monday, 7 October 2013 13:05 (twelve years ago)

What does all online information say about it? That it is bustling and vibrant?

Stevie D(eux), Monday, 7 October 2013 13:27 (twelve years ago)

That the roofs are color-coded?

Stevie D(eux), Monday, 7 October 2013 13:27 (twelve years ago)

No, that it has a population of almost 1m. That it's the third largest city in the country in which it exists. That it was built-from-scratch as the new political capital a la Brasilia but (despite online reports) (according to my friend) there is an occupancy rate of 10% or something equally incredulous.

Stevie D(eux), Monday, 7 October 2013 17:34 (twelve years ago)

Maybe they're inside?

Stevie D(eux), Monday, 7 October 2013 17:34 (twelve years ago)

Xxxxxx is a unique city in the region. It is a fully constructed large city but with very few inhabitants compared to its size, so you can experience the amazing and unprecedented experience of never ever being stuck in traffic. It is between two mountain ranges so has little to offer in the way of day trips or activities. The city was constructed to be the capital by the military and lacks the dissarray and wonder found throughout the rest of Xxxxx.

Xxxxxx was constructed in secret by the Xxxxx Junta in the early 2000s. In November 2005 it was officially announced as the country's new capital. Government workers were given two months notice that they would have to move from Yangon, as all government offices and ministries were relocated. Embassies and international organisations like the UN have not yet relocated but are expected to at some point. The international retail chains found throughout all other capital cities are not present in Xxxxxx.

The city has wide boulevards/highways (still almost empty) and extravagant roundabouts. It has housing for government workers, but many still maintain residences for their families in Xxxxx as education and health infrastructure is not yet in place.

Stevie D(eux), Monday, 7 October 2013 17:37 (twelve years ago)

Is it in Bhutan?

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 7 October 2013 18:07 (twelve years ago)

oh come now. I thought "junta" and this country were basically synonymous

REDACTED got your back (flamboyant goon tie included), Monday, 7 October 2013 18:17 (twelve years ago)

or even "yangon"

dylannn, Monday, 7 October 2013 18:17 (twelve years ago)

Haha yeah, and Yangon. I'm actually planning on going to this country after xmas.
