Bloody council spoiling the fun again

Was that the BLM night JH?
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 7 June 2013 15:14 (thirteen years ago)
it was. if only they'd waited till i got there, they'd have had a party on their hands!
― jabba hands, Friday, 7 June 2013 17:42 (thirteen years ago)
I can only assume the venue forced it to close, not the promoters? If I’ve bothered to sort all that out I’m going to play records no matter what, no matter how shit I’m feeling!
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 7 June 2013 18:09 (thirteen years ago)
We're on at eight tonight if anyone fancies it.
― emil.y, Sunday, 9 June 2013 15:24 (thirteen years ago)
Hope to make it!
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 9 June 2013 15:43 (thirteen years ago)
Anything going on this weekend? Sat/sun? Am in town, want to make the most of it.
― sjuttiosju_u (wins), Monday, 17 June 2013 17:58 (thirteen years ago)
the go bang party at the green door store on sat might be fun. i haven't been to one of their proper nights but i have enjoyed listening to those guys play records in a pub.
― jabba hands, Monday, 17 June 2013 20:27 (thirteen years ago)
Would have hone to that if I wasn’t away.
― Chewshabadoo, Monday, 17 June 2013 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

― jabba hands, Monday, 17 June 2013 23:05 (thirteen years ago)
Thx for the tip, am heading down now, looking forward to a pint in the evening star. Have been informed yr city stinks of garbage btw
― sjuttiosju_u (wins), Thursday, 20 June 2013 16:48 (twelve years ago)
(i'm cool with that, have lived in Buenos Aires & loved it)
― sjuttiosju_u (wins), Thursday, 20 June 2013 16:49 (twelve years ago)
Yep, I'm surprised shops haven't stopped giving out extra packaging, but I guess it shows how little people think about waste. Hopefully what might come out of this strike is more awareness of this fact.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 21 June 2013 15:34 (twelve years ago)
Enjoy your weeknd!
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 21 June 2013 15:35 (twelve years ago)
Not Brighton, but Brighton folks might be interested - there's a couple of amazing-looking free concerts with music by Glenn Branca, La Monte Young, Eno, Tony Conrad, Charlemagne Palestine, Eliane Radigue etc in some multi-storey carpark in Peckham at the end of the month as detailed on this post:Rolling Psych/Drone/Freak Thread 2013
― Filk Hollins (NickB), Tuesday, 2 July 2013 13:23 (twelve years ago)
Argh, yeah, I saw that. And August too. Not sure I can do it, though.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 13:45 (twelve years ago)

Oh, I've got a school fete that day - my youngest is doing a streetdance performance with his crew of crazy six year olds.
― Filk Hollins (NickB), Tuesday, 2 July 2013 22:06 (twelve years ago)
Did you get my text the other week? Can’t remember if you replied or not - I was after your email.
― Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 22:15 (twelve years ago)
Oh shit no! I hate phones and I'm hopeless at checking it for messages. Email address is nick at sussex dot ac dot uk.
― Filk Hollins (NickB), Tuesday, 2 July 2013 22:32 (twelve years ago)
I should say that I hate email too and I'm hopeless at responding to that too but you never know... ;)

i love Brighton... haven't been there for at least five years, but we'll be making a trip there in a couple of weeks...
Visited quite a few second hand record shops last time I was there.. can any locals give me an idea of what record shops are left these days..
― Stop the tape I got spittle all over my moustache. (Talcum Mucker), Saturday, 6 July 2013 19:18 (twelve years ago)
Across the Tracks = Pretty good second hand shop, mix of quality and price.Borderline = Stacks of excellent reissues (kraut, funk, psych, exotica, etc) but vinyl reissues these days are ridiculously pricy.Monkey Music Emporium = Slightly hidden away off London Road, this is probably my favourite record shop. Loads of weirdo records, good stock of proggy/RIO/experimental stuff. Only drawback is that the guy knows his prices - it's not overpriced, but you're unlikely to find a ridiculous bargain.Rarekind = New and second hand, deals mostly in hip-hop, electronica, funk, soul, etc.Resident = New releases of indie/rock/pop/hipster stuff. Good for what it is but not the biggest selection.Wax Factor = Good-sized second hand shop, pretty standard mix of stuff, you can while away an afternoon in here alone if you so fancied.
Did I forget any, guys? Edgeworld and Rounder are both closed, and I've never actually been in The Record Album (near the station) so I can't give any info on that one.
― emil.y, Saturday, 6 July 2013 19:50 (twelve years ago)
awesome.......thanks emily..
i remember going into The Record Album ....must be nearly 20 years ago.... looking for a copy of the Bedazzled soundtrack LP - was told by the owner no chance as copies turn up so rarely, but he hurried into the backroom to show me a a colour photocopy of the cover he kept in a ring binder....
good to see Wax Factor still around... spent many an hour in this place over the years...
― Stop the tape I got spittle all over my moustache. (Talcum Mucker), Saturday, 6 July 2013 20:19 (twelve years ago)
There’s also Donga’s shop on the first floor of Rarekind doing new house/“bass”, and one of Soft Rocks has One Stop Records on Sydney St, above Wolf & Gypsy clothes shop - this does beardo disco, classic house and other dance.
There are a few more mentioned in this article: http://brightonsource.co.uk/features/record-shops-stepping-into-rounders-breach/
Also, charity shops in Brighton often have some great stuff if you want to put the leg work in.
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 7 July 2013 07:45 (twelve years ago)
cheers for the info....
definitely plan to hit the charities - this is one of the things I miss most about not living in the UK (and i don't miss much to be honest) - Austria just doesn't have any charity shops... christ knows where everybody takes their junk to here....

Wax factor is ridic good for books too, love that place
― sjuttiosju_u (wins), Sunday, 7 July 2013 09:17 (twelve years ago)
Oh yeah, forgot about One Stop, I've only been in there a couple of times but seems good.
Re: that Source article, sadly Endless didn't last very long, it too has shut down.
― emil.y, Sunday, 7 July 2013 13:32 (twelve years ago)
Horribly expensive, but the Knife are playing at the Dome in October:http://brightondome.org/event/3973/the_knife/
― i'll be your mraz (NickB), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 21:56 (twelve years ago)
Oh yeah, I forgot tickets for this went on sale today. If they are still on sale at a reasonable time I’d be up for going. My new rule of thumb for gigs: if it sells out quickly most people there will be insufferable.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 8 August 2013 19:53 (twelve years ago)
Ha, not a bad rule of thumb. 99% unlikely to go at that price, anyway.
― emil.y, Thursday, 8 August 2013 19:57 (twelve years ago)
"Tickets on general sale Fri 9 Aug 10am"
― i'll be your mraz (NickB), Thursday, 8 August 2013 20:12 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, there were some "pre-sales" – or whatever the fuck farce they do these days – on sale this morning.
In other news, Stewart Lee is playing on September 19th - I’d be up for that if anyone else is.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 8 August 2013 20:13 (twelve years ago)
Oh, it’s my p.a.r.t.y this coming Saturday, hope some of you can make it.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 8 August 2013 20:14 (twelve years ago)
So many things I want to go to, still not sure whether I'm actually going to bother with the Knife or not. Definitely going to the Tim Hecker and Julia Holter shows though.
― i'll be your mraz (NickB), Thursday, 8 August 2013 20:20 (twelve years ago)

My friends are mostly lovely ^_^ Hope the C feels better soon.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 8 August 2013 20:48 (twelve years ago)
Oh, and late is great. Will probably be a long night, a few people down from London and nowhere for them to sleep, so powering through until trains start.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 8 August 2013 21:02 (twelve years ago)
Excellent *rubs hands together*
― emil.y, Thursday, 8 August 2013 21:04 (twelve years ago)
i got knife tix in the pre-sale and i'm definitely insufferable. i should make it to this party too, depending on what sort of state i'm in when i get back down from london..
― jabba hands, Friday, 9 August 2013 11:09 (twelve years ago)
Invite your clubbing friends too P.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 9 August 2013 18:28 (twelve years ago)
I see Planningtorock is playing in December too, could be worth a look. First time I heard her was here at loop and she was amazing.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 9 August 2013 18:29 (twelve years ago)
Not sure when tickets are going to be released (possibly today), but there's a free event in Bexhill in November that sounds interesting if you like a bit of performance art grindcore - Napalm Death playing through a ceramic sound system that will disintegrate over the course of the performance. Keep an eye on the De La Warr twitter account I guess...
― i'll be your mraz (NickB), Friday, 23 August 2013 08:28 (twelve years ago)
Ah that was supposed to happen at the V&A museum (I think) but got cancelled because they were worried about it damaging the structure of the building as well as the ceramics.
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 23 August 2013 08:30 (twelve years ago)
I'd be interested in that if I‘m free. Could you text me if they become available?
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 23 August 2013 08:56 (twelve years ago)
Will grab you a ticket if i get the chance matt. Currently in the lawless badlands of the Pevensey Levels though so internet access is awfully patchy.
― i'll be your mraz (NickB), Friday, 23 August 2013 11:30 (twelve years ago)
That sounds fucking great. I'm in.
― emil.y, Friday, 23 August 2013 15:03 (twelve years ago)
I can't find anything about this one, though, only reports on the V&A cancelled show...
