My foundation garment is a little bit lurid. I want to show you, but it's fancy.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:25 (twenty years ago)

It's true. There are little elastic whiskers trailing off all my bras right now. Also, the padding in my padded bras becomes less useful as it breaks down in the laundry. Also, if you wear them long enough, they can get kind of pit stained (this was real bad when I waited tables). Also, they get less stretchy or dry rot or lose their supportiveness OR the worst is when the underwires pop out out and poke you in the soft part of your underarm. Ouch.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Underarm or boob. That SUCKS.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:26 (twenty years ago)

Robe? Glamorous? Not in the USA. Dressing gown sounds much fancier. Think bathrobe. Housecoat is very old-lady-ish.

Sometimes when I think of 'dressing gown' I think of Radiohead "Black Star" ("I get home from work and you're still standing in your dressing gown well what am I to do?") Even that seems sort of decadent and extravagent.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:26 (twenty years ago)

I bought it to wear under dresses, so it's not just a bra. It's a bra+.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:26 (twenty years ago)

I need an underwear remodel, but I don't want to buy lots of stuff now since I'm fat, but seriously I don't know if my undies will make it through the summer. I guess I just need to get some crystal meth and lose weight real fast.

JUST KIDDING!

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I just revisited "faces of meth." Not cute.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:48 (twenty years ago)

crystal meth and bras kill thread, who would'a thunk

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:48 (twenty years ago)

i miss not having a reason to shop at victoria's secret anymore.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:52 (twenty years ago)

I mean, if you really miss it, you can go with me. I'm not very exciting, though.

"Do you have this in beige? Great. I'll take three."

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 27 April 2006 19:55 (twenty years ago)

they make awesome stuff. last two girlfriends got their lady business there so i wound up making a lot of trips there. i learned early to say "want me to hold your purse?" when they went to the fitting room so at least i'd have a purse to show that i was waiting for someone and not some sketchy dude hangin' out by the dressing rooms at victoria's secret.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 20:00 (twenty years ago)

i miss not having a reason to go not necessarily the actual trips. though the last time i was there was f'ing AWESOME.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 20:01 (twenty years ago)

And...why was that, Otto?

christmas shopping with this girl i'd been seeing. it was a good time. the whole day was probably the zenith of our relationship. great day all the way around. learned a lot about her that day.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Nick is kind of turning into that guy in the corner at a party who after hours of silence comes through with a brilliantly poignant comment or snaps on something or someone, then is quiet the rest of the night.

Guys, my friend Erica is having her big finale sendoff graduation thesis art show on May 5 at the third floor of 847 W. Jackson. It will be a good time. There are 4 other artists in the show, and they call themselves the Golden Girls. I think I am in one of the pieces that will be displayed, so BONUS there.

So yeah, you should go, if you want to.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 27 April 2006 20:50 (twenty years ago)

BTW, music plays when that page opens. I tried to tell her, but...

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 27 April 2006 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Is that the one where someone leaps at tall men and then photographs herself in mid air or something?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Unfortunately, no.

I am sad that Jessa is back in town, because I really want to go over there and watch a stupid old movie of my choosing tonight. Like, I made Jesse watch "Soapdish" the other night, because it's funny. And then I went over again and started watching The Sopranos episodes that I had missed, but got bored out of my skull and watched "Goodfellas" again instead. Like, I've only seen it two dozen times, but it still kicks the hell out of the Sopranos. And I like the Sopranos.

I do have a smattering of movies here on DVD. Should I watch:

  • Boogie Nights

  • Memento

  • Unforgiven

  • LA Confidential

  • Pirates of the Caribbean

  • The Fog of War

  • Rocky and Bullwinkle
  • ?

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Fog of War if you want a snack, Boogie Nights if you want a meal. Maybe it was the wrong day to see it, but I didn't like L.A. Confidential at all.

Saw two movies this week - Thank You For Smoking and the Daniel Johnston doc. Both worth seeing. I should see more movies.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 27 April 2006 23:22 (twenty years ago)

    I LOOOOOVE LA Confidential.

Fog of War if you want a snack, Boogie Nights if you want a meal.

    Strike that, reverse it.

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 23:29 (twenty years ago)

My true intentions come out. I don't really want a recommendation, I just want to argue about these movies.

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 23:31 (twenty years ago)

I should see more movies, too. Summer resolution: See more movies!

I watched The Sting on AMC last night. GAWD I love Robert Redford. Although as far as Redford/Newman vehicles, I just don't think Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid can be beat.

I really liked Fog of War. It wasn't so Errol Morris-y that I was annoyed and it almost made me feel sorry for Robert McNamara. Out of those other movies you want to fight about, Kenan, I've only seen Memento and Boogie Nights. I liked them both, but with the passage of time they have fallen from my list of favorite movies with nary a whimper.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 27 April 2006 23:42 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, me too, I just happen to own them.

I really liked Fog of War. It wasn't so Errol Morris-y that I was annoyed and it almost made me feel sorry for Robert McNamara.

See, it didn't make me feel sorry for him at all. It made me understand that our pity is the last thing he's going for. He's a very smart man who has done some very terrible things, and if he's not ready to apologize for all of them (perhaps just out of the fear of seeming disingenuous?), he's certainly ready to talk about them. Best movie of 2003, easy.

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 23:51 (twenty years ago)

My last rant about this movie.

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 23:57 (twenty years ago)

Not even the best doc, Capturing the Friedmans was much better. It was TENSE.

Jeff. (Jeff), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:08 (twenty years ago)

It was very good, yes, but I liked the implications of Fog of War better. They were... bigger. Much bigger.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:12 (twenty years ago)

    I like people stories.

If it had been about McN's porn collection I may have liked it better.

Jeff. (Jeff), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:16 (twenty years ago)

Or McN's propensity for diddling little boys?

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:20 (twenty years ago)

    I like people stories.

But it very much was a people story. It just wasn't about an ordinary person. It was about one man who was very smart and very powerful and who was put into some very difficult positions and made some very bad decisions. How is that not a people story? The whole point of the movie is that it's people, flawed and struggling and sometimes bad and mean-spirited PEOPLE, who make all the world's biggest decisions.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:27 (twenty years ago)

I'm not talking about movies on the internet.

Jeff. (Jeff), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:29 (twenty years ago)

    Dear Fashion Advisors (Hi Laurel!),

Am I too old for this wallet? I am 33.

    Thank you,
    Jenny

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm not talking about movies on the internet.

You've certainly turned over a new leaf.

Am I too old for this wallet? I am 33.

As Beefheart says, as long as you can boogie, you ain't too old.

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:31 (twenty years ago)

I have to be careful. My tendency is to dress like a stoned undergrad or a kindergarten teacher on acid (I did not make up that last description - this was what a friend of mine once said when asked to describe my "look"). I was wearing a suit on Tuesday and a school colleague said, "Wow! I've never seen you look so grown up! You look like you should be my boss!"

So I fired the little bitch.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:33 (twenty years ago)

    hahaha

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:36 (twenty years ago)

or a kindergarten teacher on acid

and this differs from an ordinary kindergarten teacher how?

Man Man (kenan), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:37 (twenty years ago)

KG teachers on acid wear blue dresses, red tights, and gold sneakers (the outfit that prompted the comment). Regular KG teachers wear holidy-themed applique sweatshirts and matching white Keds.

Why am I fucking around on the internet instead of reading about the rule against perpetuities???

    OH YEAH BECAUSE IT'S BORING.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 28 April 2006 00:40 (twenty years ago)

    get the wallet.
thank you for smoking was pretty good.

"cigarettes are cool, they're addictive, and they're readily available. they practically do the job for us."

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 28 April 2006 01:12 (twenty years ago)

thank you, middle-aged gay gentleman, for buying my friends and i drinks ALL NIGHT at Buona Terra.

Fun Fact: dude was shocked SHOCKED! that we knew, and liked, the Rolling Stones.

gbx (skowly), Friday, 28 April 2006 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Why am I here? I need to pack for tomorrow. But I stopped by the tea shop and said hi to K., then drove her home because they closed early.

    GET READY FRANCOPHONES.
