I got one that set me down right outside the Ketchikan Ferry Terminal. Another on the Confederation Bridge.

are the locations randomised or from a selection of pre-chosen places?

i always enjoy getting close-up people shots. i found this amazing one of a bunch of guys running towards the google car but i didnt manage to screen shoot it in time.

I've had that one too. So, pre-chosen rather than random, I reckon, otherwise what are the chances?

The one that plunked me down in the middle of a logging road in a BC forest sure seemed random.

I have been noticing this unintentional Soderbergh filtered way of going from the grainy standard cameras from the 2007 days of yore to the high-def ones of today. Sometimes you'll catch the scenes side-by-side, and can back up and down from one year to the next.

I've gotten the Ketchikan one and nameless dude, so yeah, probably not totally random. But they still seem to give me "road in Australia with no identifying features" a lot.

Kinda neat to find a place on there where it's always Christmas.

I was cruising through some neighborhood - maybe in Baltimore - where the yards had gravestones and the front porches had cobwebs. Of all times they pick to drive the camera around, they pick Halloween.

When did Google Maps get animated 3d driving directions? I guess they are walking and biking too?

Annoying *new* streetview. They've removed the static navigational arrows, so you have to just click on the road to move around. Which is terrible because if you get a road that goes over/under another road you'll end up teleporting.

also horrid huge road labels don't seem to be removable.

hmm, I still have the arrows (although I can't see them unless I look down at my feet)

...and they only allow you to move forwards and backwards, whereas there used to be 4-directional arrows at upcoming intersections. yeah, this is definitely not an improvement.

No, not creepy at all. Nuthin' like being caught in somebody's scope inside a Maryland parking lot.

Yeah, I think they might even be posted up on this thread somewhere. I was just amazed at how they didnt blur out any of the faces.

I guess they are redoing Japan at the minute, lotsa little pokey back streets to cover in those cities, must be difficult.

It drops you in a random location in Street View--anywhere in the world, or limit it to specific countries, cities, etc.

Tool around in Street View looking for clues to your location. (Oh look, a sign for a eucalyptus oil distillery and a street named South Coast Road--southern Australia maybe?)

In another little window, zoom all the way in on a world map and click where you think you are. It will show you how close you were and award points.
