also: go 3 rather than the 2 XS or other models - the processor upgrade has made using it a much smoother experience

A new, cheaper iPod Touch quietly launched today, replacing the holdover 4th-gen model with a 5th-gen 16mb version without the 5MP rear camera (or wrist strap). Silver only. $229 / £199.

I bet alot of ppl will order this and not realize until too late it doesn't have a rear camera (which I use frequently - that alone easily makes the 32gb model worth the extra cost IMO)

Was nosying about the UK store there looking at that and realised you still can't buy a Mac Pro in Europe. WTH, Apple

stet, Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:09 (thirteen years ago)

My high capacity self is doomed. The 320 GB model I long for will never happen ;_;

2 huxtables and a sousaphone (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:10 (thirteen years ago)

xp... had something to do with EU regulations iirc

sofatruck, Friday, 31 May 2013 01:31 (thirteen years ago)

Yep, thy may be announcing a major update soon, and the old one's didn't conform to new EU regulations.

Who needs a retina display if the graphics are going to look like Windows 3.1 - or even Windows Phone 8.

I think the exact opposite, lower resolution screens benefit from things like gradients, and photo-realism to hide the block ones of the pixels. When you have HiDPI/retina displays you don't need to do this because the crispness of shapes in less opulent rendering looks extremely nice. I think my Windows phone has a higher pixel density than and apple product, and did look absolutely superb until I shattered the screen.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 31 May 2013 09:44 (thirteen years ago)

*any* apple product.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 31 May 2013 09:44 (thirteen years ago)

Here’s a recent piece on the Mac Pro:

http://www.macrumors.com/2013/04/08/rumor-suggests-replacement-for-mac-pro-due-in-april-or-may/

Buying one at the moment even if you could get one would be strongly discouraged!

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 31 May 2013 09:46 (thirteen years ago)

wwdc is in two weeks.

markers, Friday, 31 May 2013 13:45 (thirteen years ago)

at least wait until then.

markers, Friday, 31 May 2013 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, even if they were on sale you'd obviously want to wait, but it's a bit o_O all the same that they haven't had them available here for months now.

stet, Friday, 31 May 2013 13:50 (thirteen years ago)

lol when people expect (a) a whole new ios (b) new ios hardware, and all they get is a lick of paint and a load of genuinely useful apis

it's one of those spider sentries from Minority Report.

First iWatch mock-up photo looks vaguely disturbing. Cyber-Wristhugger.

Dave Grohl's neck/beard area looking distressingly George Lucas-esque there. I'd never noticed Tim Cook's resemblance to paul O'Grady before, either:

which is good because the redesign is nice

You know, if they could get iCloud working right it could be really great. I just:

Started a slide deck in Keynote on my desktop Mac, typed the title of the first slide, then left it open (hadn't titled it or saved it or anything)
Started another new deck in Keynote on my MacBook, typed the title of the first slide (the same one as on the desktop Mac). Saved my changes to iCloud, gave it a name etc.
Did a lot more work on the deck.
Came back to desktop Mac, saw that the virtually empty deck I'd started had been renamed to match the one from the MacBook, and all the content was already there.

It was a bit like magic.

appaz there's the icloud that manages stuff like this, and a completely different icloud that's a load of public apis that basically don't work

the Quim of Bendigo (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:45 (thirteen years ago)

oh wait, i think the first icloud is just music/app distribution nm

the Quim of Bendigo (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:49 (thirteen years ago)

Include the versioning control over iCloud docs that OS X already has and I'm with Stet on this. I'd even settle for this over fixing the CoreData iCloud issues.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 22:08 (thirteen years ago)

thank christ for dropbox eh

the Quim of Bendigo (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 23:38 (thirteen years ago)

markers, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 23:46 (thirteen years ago)

WWDC sessions times are up. Way more TBCs than the last couple of years, especially in Presido. Bodes well for keynote, I think.

Bugger all for Xcode too. Fingers crossed.

stet, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 23:50 (thirteen years ago)

markers, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 23:54 (thirteen years ago)

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 23:54 (thirteen years ago)
