ha ha i've had an ongoing debate with a friend about the MIB ep of WTF, where i side with MIB and think that maron was being a dick and she sides with maron and thinks that MIB was being a dick. that's what happens when two comedians with dick personas get together i guess.

im with DY on this one. reminds me of cher's 'no its your designer imposter perfume' zing at amber from clueless. funny for high school but embarrassing for middle aged men. the way these fools get upset at any perceived slight is a huge red flag for paranoid psychopathy imo. and by these fools i mean most comedians

if you've even listened to only a handful of WTF episodes, you should know how incredibly insecure of sociopathic comedians are. not really a surprise to see 49 year-old comedians in a pissy twitbeef.

but it's also a persona they both put on whenever they talk to each other. like this is just kind of, i dunno, sport, for them. maron does the same thing with Josh Malina now and then, it's funny.
i get a kick out of it. idk.

GUYS i was thinking with all these old-school comedians on WTF lately - can you imagine if marc interviewed jerry lewis?
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 23 May 2013 19:56 (eleven years ago) link
I finally finished listening to the Sam Simon one. The part that really offended me was when he referred to Jennifer Tilly as the world's best female poker player.

I loved loved loved the Brooks, Reiner and Dick Van Dyke interviews. The Shelly Berman one was interesting too, though he seemed like a much tougher interview. I would love more of those old Hollywood guys.
would love him to get into some of the Laugh In cast or Carol Burnett etc.

BOB NEWHART
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:32 (eleven years ago) link
i think he's talked about wanting to interview those guys (jerry lewis, newhart, etc), just needs someone to hook it up
― precious bonsai children of new york (Jordan), Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:38 (eleven years ago) link
if he interviews lewis i just want them to be dicks to each other for an hour. probably wouldn't happen though :(
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:39 (eleven years ago) link
yeah newhart would be great. and lewis. all of em!
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:50 (eleven years ago) link
Carol Burnett and Bob Newhart ftw! I'd probably listen to Jerry Lewis's if it were to happen, but a lot of that guy's shine has worn off for me since I was a kid.
― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:52 (eleven years ago) link
oh and Dick Cavett's on my wishlist too. I could listen to him talk all day
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:53 (eleven years ago) link
oh i don't like lewis at all. i just know he's a notoriously difficult interview so i think the results would be interesting.
― congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:54 (eleven years ago) link
i know maron doesnt do uk comedy but its a shame he is missing out on a bunch of classic era comedians from over here. python, being an easy, worldly example.

god if only someone could finally get Pythons interviewed
― ¬╡▫ ▫╞⌠ (sic), Friday, 24 May 2013 07:34 (eleven years ago) link
ok sure but that is just one name out of like 50 who its a shame maron doesnt know exists
― tell me more (a hoy hoy), Friday, 24 May 2013 07:47 (eleven years ago) link
Enh, as good as the Stewart Lee WTF interview was, I don't really want to listen to Maron bluffing his way through interviews with any more UK comedians than he chooses to already. I'd much rather a UK comedian who was as equally incisive and well-connected as Maron started their own podcast to work their way through the history of British comedy. Struggling to think of anyone who might fit the bill, though.

I watched the one about the dead animal under the house and made a mental note to never watch the show again.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 22:38 (eleven years ago) link
I liked Marc more when I'd only see him on Conan occasionally, and when he'd release a new album, and when he was just on the radio and/or in the early days of WTF. I even like WTF now. But I think the tv show was one step too far. I'm starting to feel suffocated by his neuroses and generally lifesucking presence.
― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 28 May 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago) link
i agree, he's better in an off-the-cuff medium rather than scripted
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 28 May 2013 22:41 (eleven years ago) link
Same one I saw. Thought it was okay, but that was several weeks ago and I haven't made an effort to go back and seek out more, so I suppose that says something.

I liked the two I saw. Didn't see the dead animal one. I like the show. I like the interviews. I like some of his rambling. But I don't like his standup.
