Well, short answer is it works (NetShare). A bit of a pain to set up, and not something that I would use all the time (especially since the connection dies whenever the phone goes to sleep), but good in a pinch, and FAST on 3G.

schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 03:00 (seventeen years ago)

and FAST on 3G

Really? How fast? Where are you located?

Allen, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

NetShare's off the store here again.

Have bought that Google Reader app; is much better than NNW, and also has a stab at doing the Instapaper thing via Google notebook. Nice.

stet, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:02 (seventeen years ago)

I'm in San Francisco. Not sure exactly how fast, but it felt way faster than when I tethered to my old SE EDGE phone over USB. Almost like DSL.

schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

The frickin' store gateway is annoying. Apps that I buy can disappear? Lame.

schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

has anyone got the rpg VAY??

s1ocki, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

(sequel to OY?)

s1ocki, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

has anyone got the rpg VAY??

It was terrible when I played it on Sega CD.

Allen, Monday, 4 August 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

ugh someone let me know if netshare ever comes back. totally slept on it :(

phil-two, Monday, 4 August 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

What I don't understand is what happens if I sync my apps now? Does it go away?

schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

nobody's sure, and nobody's syncing!

stet, Monday, 4 August 2008 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

has anyone got the rpg VAJAYJAY?

s1ocki, Monday, 4 August 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

If stuff I paid for disappears, I smell a class action suit...

schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

^^^ erin brockovich over here

s1ocki, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:06 (seventeen years ago)

Now I know just what it feels like to get cancer from a polluting refinery.

schwantz, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

i know i keep complaining about this but is netnewswire just COMPLETELY broken for anyone else? like, stalls out and crashes all the time, can't even scroll through feeds?

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 04:39 (seventeen years ago)

I think I'll buy an iPhone just for Shazam.

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 04:45 (seventeen years ago)

NNW is fine here.

Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 05:10 (seventeen years ago)

A software update (2.0.1) is ready for downloading.

Bryan, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 05:46 (seventeen years ago)

245Mb! That's TWICE my monthly work quota.

Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 05:48 (seventeen years ago)

NNW fine here too. I am ADDICTED to Labyrinth.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 08:11 (seventeen years ago)

I'm noticing overall snappiness and improved battery life with 2.0.1 but that may just be wishful thinking.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 08:13 (seventeen years ago)

Backup don't arf take forbloodyever.

Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 13:01 (seventeen years ago)

maybe i'll delete NNW and re-download it.

or maybe i have too many feeds.

can you collapse them folders yet?

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 13:55 (seventeen years ago)

i also gotta say, apple's gonna have to do something about apps that take a long time to load/download data. kinda annoying to have to keep making sure hte phone hasn't gone to sleep.

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 15:35 (seventeen years ago)

or will the push server fix that??

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 15:35 (seventeen years ago)

maybe i'll delete NNW and re-download it

twice now it's crashed on me horribly and refused to reload my feeds page (see above). the first time (v1.0) i had to remove it and re-download it; the second i just changed my username to xxxxxxx in settings.app, which forced it to reload, then went back and put my proper username back in.

it's the one app i use the most, and i'm fundamentally very happy with it. i mean, it was fucking FREE, and i now rely on it every single morning.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 16:41 (seventeen years ago)

working a bit better but syncing is still funky.

i removed a lot of feeds from my iphone list on the newsgator website but it didn't remove them from my phone. really didn't want to click through every one to delete them on the phone itself.

also... WHY NO COLLAPSIBLE FOLDERS. WHY

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

also... WHY NO COLLAPSIBLE FOLDERS. WHY

For Cthulhu's sake dude, if you bothered to read any of his change notes, feature requests, and postings on the NNW support forums you'll see that IT'S IN THE WORKS. (along with my feature request which is to be able to read in landscape mode)

Brent is pretty active in posting in the NNW forums and his own support blog when he's not, you know, actually coding

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

well he shouldn't be wasting his time posting to forums and blogs.

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

I've given up on NNW. The syncing's just too funky between it, NNW Mac, FeedDemon and Newsgator. Byline ftw.

stet, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

has anyone got the rpg VAJAYJAY?

Apps redownload for free.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

along with my feature request which is to be able to read in landscape mode

excellent, been meaning to ask for that :)

The syncing's just too funky between it, NNW Mac, FeedDemon and Newsgator

really?

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

Aye. The read/unread statuses aren't reliable, sometimes clippings don't appear properly, and NNW iPhone has 0 support for flags or re-reading read stories.

stet, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

And NNW Mac plays the fuck up if unread statuses change while it's open.

stet, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

is the purpose of Byline so that you can read your Google Reader feeds while offline? The app description leaves me unclear about that. Because for online reading the iPhone Google Reader page seems good to me.

Euler, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

Yeh, it's an offline client for Google Reader -- it also stores the entire web page of starred items, and any pages noted in yr google notebook. I prefer it to the webpage for online, too.

stet, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:31 (seventeen years ago)

Anyway, if you've got NNW issues you're much better off reading/posting here:

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

and distract the dude even more?

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone Jailbreak their iPhone 3G? A friend of mine is liking the Intelliscreen thingie.

schwantz, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 19:54 (seventeen years ago)

hmm backing up doesn't seem that much better.

plus, when i closed itunes and re-started it a second later, it mounted the phone again and... urgh... BACKED IT UP AGAIN. it didn't realize it had just done that like 5 minutes before?

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

also in my list of "app updates" now there's two of everything. like doubles.

s1ocki, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

yes, the app-update thing seems to be fucked. i'm trying to ignore it.

that is fucking genius.

"art and livestyle"

sunny successor, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:32 (seventeen years ago)

in the super niche target market dept.:

The Seattle Bus app is actually worth the $9.99. Only helpful if you're a King County Metro bus rider on a regular basis like :-D. You just hit "find me", and it shows you all the upcoming buses, notably how on time or late they are, which bus, and how many minutes until they arrive. Really cheap interface, but that's part of its charm (for now.)

I know other cities have the "minutes remaining until X bus" info at the stop itself, but hey I gotta take what I can take.

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

incorporating gps into a public-transit app is smart.

s1ocki, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

I like that the app is called "Seattle Bus", not King County Metro App or the Emerald Transit Wizard. "TEH SEATTLE BUS APP". Total lack of grace.
