I remember someone posting a very good Slate or Salon piece about the section of the constitution that makes clear that there are additional rights beyond the constitution and that the constitution is basically not the be-all end-all. I think it may have been a gun control/second amendment thread.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

anyone?! stanm?!!?!?!?!

the one i posted just above

roxymuzak, Thursday, 26 June 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

on November 7 2006 you posted something that got Excelsiored last month, so maybe J0rdan S. knows?

i dunno, that's actually pretty LOL. maybe it could become my new default EXCELSIORbation fantasy.

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

someone help me out - it's for an important online argument?

Hurting 2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

roxy: the only mention of abominable, oasis and rappinghood is in that Excelsior thread, according to Google Search, so the original thread either doesn't exist anymore or it's de-indexed :-(

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 17:56 (seventeen years ago)

Hurting: can you look up a sentence or some specific words that are literally in that "section of the constitution that makes clear that there are additional rights beyond the constitution" ?

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

(more specifics = easier)

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

Roxy, found it!

Oasis - Classic or Dud?

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:05 (seventeen years ago)

(only found by guessing it was updated on or after May 9th, because J0rdan excelsiored it on that date - why can't ILX search or Google search find it?)

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

and thanks for the anyone?! stanm?!!?!?!?! ^_^

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

roxymuzak, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:17 (seventeen years ago)

why will no one find norm macdonald thread

its not either of the two threads with "norm macdonald" in the title

and what, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

I mean it was about the 9th Amendment, I'm pretty sure, but there was just a link to an ARTICLE about the 9th Amendment

Hurting 2, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

and what: not this, I suppose? (that's about letterman or o'reilly, but the thread also contains a link to a sketch where norm plays letterman - or something)

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

what is the trick to google search the posts that are skipped?

carne asada, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

Hurting, could it be this Slate article? http://www.slate.com/id/2186750/ - (can't seem to find the discussion here at the moment, but maybe the article is what you need?)

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:36 (seventeen years ago)

xpost: huh? doesn't google search search complete threads?

StanM, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

i don't think it does.

carne asada, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

Google is pretty crap at indexing long threads. Even if its spider navigated through the "Skipping x messages at this point. Click here if you want to view them all" page (which I'm not sure it does), Google only ever indexes the first 101K of a web page's text, so it will always miss stuff lower down.

Alba, Thursday, 26 June 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Google doesn't search any messages hidden in those middle "Skipping" sections. And since ILX Search only searches thread titles, there's no way to search for things in those gaps.

Where is the thread discussing Pitchfork's "Now That's What I Call New Pop" feature on the British New Pop movement of the early 1980s? The thread title was something like, "Now that Gang of Four and PIL have gone through a revival, isn't it about time Pitchfork started talking about New Pop?"

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 6 July 2008 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

thank you P.P.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

milo z, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)
