The residential portion of the project involves 300 rental or owner-occupied units — a study will determine what the exact mix will be, Collins said. Currently, several hundred apartments are being built or renovated downtown, including nearly 800 luxury units along the light-rail line.

A Central Park in minneapolis could be really cool, but I wonder what kind of mayhem would ensue if they close off Park, Portland, and 5th Ave.

Loring Park already exists, though.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/30/us/politics/michele-bachmann-wont-seek-re-election-next-year.html?hp
“This decision was not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign or my former presidential staff,” she added.
In January of 2011, Mrs. Bachmann delivered her own, unofficial “Tea Party” response to President Obama’s State of the Union address. She mocked the president’s fiscal policies and urged a repeal of the president’s health care plan known as Obamacare. But the brief, televised response prompted comedy sketches because of its low production values and because Mrs. Bachmann appeared to be looking off to the side throughout her remarks.

JJ - what's the scoop on the fireside lounge? I had to go to a visitation in the area, and noticed that, the fact they advertised cocktails & homemade gravies was intriguiging
― unfinest DN (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 6 June 2013 12:26 (thirteen years ago)
well they have a terrific website, i can tell you that much
― goole, Thursday, 6 June 2013 14:52 (thirteen years ago)
fireside used to be a totally terrifying locals only place, but some dude from duluth (?) bought it several years ago and has thrown a bunch of work into it. pretty badass bloody marys, id say the last time i went there for breakfast like half the people there had little kids with them. hilariously bad decor, feels kind of like a restaurant you would find in cabinland wisconsin. they had a bit of a problem last year when some drunk dude killed another drunk dude by driving away with him hanging out of the car door and then running over him iirc.

otoh, $6 eggs benedict!
― Not Simone Choule (Eric H.), Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:35 (thirteen years ago)
hahahaha the website has the cheers song as an embed, awesome
i will say, the new restaurant/bar in stpl that is the fucking business is that Ward 6 place over in East St. Paul on Payne.
xpost i had the eggs benedict last time i was there (i am not a frequent customer, but we wanted to give it a shot) and it was pretty sweet for $6. nothing to write home about but shit man $6
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:38 (thirteen years ago)
for some reason when you said Fireside Lounge I thought it was the Lamplighter Lounge at Larpenteur and Rice Street. THAT place will never be redeemed.

lol that would really make this sentence something:
id say the last time i went there for breakfast like half the people there had little kids with them.
― unfinest DN (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 6 June 2013 18:02 (thirteen years ago)
haha! I grew up in Little Canada, and hadn't driven through the Rice/Larpenteur area for years until recently. It's a weird mixture of places that appear unchanged, like The Limplifter, and things that are clearly on the downhill slide. That A-frame bar across from Lake McCarron's, the Chalet, is now Freddy's Tiki Hut!
― New Authentic Everybootsy Collins (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 6 June 2013 18:08 (thirteen years ago)
god i know that freddys tiki hut will be just awful but i feel so compelled to just lock the shop up and drive there right now
oh hey also as long as you are here dan, did you get my email about the amp?
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 6 June 2013 18:18 (thirteen years ago)
LOL, we just featured Freddy's Tiki Hut in our listicle of the day: http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/top-lists/best-tiki-bars-in-minnesota/
(I didn't write or research it.)
― Not Simone Choule (Eric H.), Thursday, 6 June 2013 18:19 (thirteen years ago)
the best tiki bar in minnesota is that weird ass one that was in the middle of nowhere in north saint paul or woodbury or whatever that had the downstairs with all the water features but maybe burned down or something
