For a short time I was known to contribute to Timebomb 2000 on Greenspun, but as a moderate. The loonies there were pretty rabid on both sides. Tiresomely so. Ask a Drunk was more congenial. I've skirted around the edges of the prepper movement since, but mainly while gathering info for earthquake preparations.

Oregon is due for a subduction zone earthquake in the range of 9.0 on the Juan de Fuca plate just offshore from us. The periodicity averages 300 years and the last one was in April, 1700 (as recorded in Japanese records, where the tsunami arrived not so many hours afterwards). It could happen two minutes from now, or 50 years from now.

I was so excited for the Doomsday Preppers show and I watched like 5 eps and I was done. It was kinda stupid and not as informational as I wanted (yeah, I know 'duh' but hey).

There's a bit of prepper in me though. Well. To qualify: I love listmaking, I love well-stocked pantries AND the possibility of having an EMERGENCY PANTRY...I love the idea of using hand-crank radios and solar torches and having a bowie knife and not having to fly into a panic if something happened. Being prepared feels like it's kinda my JAM. but those hardcore prepper people get real weird real quickand preparing as though you WANT the world to end is not my jam at all.

Aimless, we should arrange a meeting point for the Big One :)
