I haven't been to Goodison since 2004 and that was my only visit since '89, and I certainly don't follow football to the forensic level I sometimes see on here, so I just have this vague, romantic idea of EFC and Laudrup (being my vague, romantic idea of a pre-CL/pre-Sky genius) seems to fit that.

malky mackay is very good imo

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:11 (thirteen years ago)

But his name's Malky.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:13 (thirteen years ago)

Martinez would be a disaster.

Redknapp might not be. He failed to get QPR relegated but did about as well with Spurs as AVB has and let's not forget he whipped them into shape too, after Ramos, figure of fun and all as he may be.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:13 (thirteen years ago)

Martinez wouldn't necessarily be, given he's never had a good defence to work with, but would be quite a tactical shift given their existing squad.

wtf are u talking about, the last four solid years of defensive cluelessness were all his own

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:14 (thirteen years ago)

sad about petrov, i always liked him

He didn't fail to get QPR relegated.

He was good at Spurs and at Portsmouth, but he loves spending shitloads of money and he wouldn't have that opportunity at Everton. I don't think his dog would let him do it.

Hearing moyes confirmedare we hearing m (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:16 (thirteen years ago)

Bilic is at Lokomotiv Moscow, who have been really poor this season. Not sure they'd be fussed about him leaving.

хуто-хуторянка (ShariVari), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:17 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah he's signed defensive shite and that's not going to be good in the longer term but the defence he'd be inheriting is pretty tight. He's still the wrong candidate obv.

Matt DC, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:17 (thirteen years ago)

Redknapp as EFC manager is a bit LOL BORIS IS A LEGERND.

It's good that my horizons are being expanded here though. Laudrup, JOL, and this Malky fellow, who is younger than me for Inchy's sake.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:17 (thirteen years ago)

i agree lovely bobby might not necessarily be a stonewall disaster but he is very... not quite overrated but certainly indulged in the media and would need to improve a great deal

no chance uprooting arry from the south even for a prem gig but idk how anyone could think it wouldnt be an absolute carcrash

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:21 (thirteen years ago)

Redknapp inherited a really good squad at Spurs (with some problem spots), he didn't actually spend that much money overall, and Levy kept him on a pretty tight leash. He'd be a catastrophe at Everton.

Matt DC, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:22 (thirteen years ago)

kenwright is a soppy old fool anyway and is sure to fall head over heels for martinez. it's a lock imo

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:23 (thirteen years ago)

United's desire to secure Moyes took Everton by surprise, with the Merseyside club aggrieved they did not receive the courtesy of an official approach from the champions. However, as Moyes's contract with Everton expires on 30 June United were not required to do so.

The news had been so unexpected at Goodison Park that until 2pm on Wednesday, four hours after Ferguson made his plans public, Everton's chairman, Bill Kenwright, had no idea that Moyes was wanted by United.

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:25 (thirteen years ago)

Was gonna say redknapp prob close to break even at spurs, he actually sold too many players

Rafas everton vs jols everton is an interesting thought experiment

incredible xpost to the everton stuff.

He didn't fail to get QPR relegated.

oops yep, failed to stop qpr getting relegated.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:31 (thirteen years ago)

Everyone in the world knew that Fergie had identified Moyes as his heir apparent, although the retirement probably came as a surprise. Guess Kenwright just got complacent with contracts and expected Moyes to hang around forever.

Matt DC, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:35 (thirteen years ago)

Do we really think Moyes will bring the likes of Baines, Fellaini, Osman with him?

yeah i definitely want to click on this video

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:39 (thirteen years ago)

Osman will likely see his career out at Goodison. The other two, yeah, they'll probably go.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:40 (thirteen years ago)

Be a very bad sign if those two are his big signings

Number None, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:41 (thirteen years ago)

Thought Shearer was James Richardson for a second then

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:42 (thirteen years ago)

Fellaini wd improve United, Baines & Osman good but not necessary signings.

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:43 (thirteen years ago)

Fellaini wd be a good replacement for Rooney qua midfielder

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:44 (thirteen years ago)

Utd don't need someone to play as a second striker, which is where Fellaini's shown his best form by a long way

Number None, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:44 (thirteen years ago)

if Fellaini came in and Kagawa continued to be marginalised i'd just despair

Number None, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:45 (thirteen years ago)

phil jones will be like a pig in shit next season. probably literally

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:45 (thirteen years ago)

didn't know shearer was now a jailer in a charles dickens novel

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:46 (thirteen years ago)

fellaini is trash

there is no special cathexis with mini fried donuts (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:47 (thirteen years ago)

let the record show, i give my guarantee that moyes won't sign fellaini. he got the most out of him by partly building a system around him that he'd have no intention of replicating at utd. also he is a petulant, stroppy type who can disappear when he is not feeling like it, which is a bad look for a guy that size with big hair.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:47 (thirteen years ago)

fellaini up top with rvp and chicarito on the wings, welcome to moyesball

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:48 (thirteen years ago)

it seems likely that Moyes will be alert enough to the tenuousness of his new job to not do anything obvious as bring in players from his last club but I still think Fellaini's strength and directness wd suit this incarnation of United

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:49 (thirteen years ago)

yes but you think he is a midfielder too

there is no special cathexis with mini fried donuts (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:51 (thirteen years ago)

i did specifically say Rooney-esque

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:51 (thirteen years ago)

there he is, alan shearer, the master of bad punditry. needs a cat on his lap imo.

you're going home in a crispy ambulance (cajunsunday), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:51 (thirteen years ago)

shearer seems to be on the verge of laughter all the time, like he's in on the joke and can't believe that anyone gives a shit about the drivel he is pulling out of his backside.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:53 (thirteen years ago)

this is another excellent instance of where a manager should have the confidence not to rely on overpaying for past favourites (joe allen and borini etc)

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:53 (thirteen years ago)

if he wants actual fitba players who can also provide power in midfield then he has the means to buy strootman or capoué or kondogbia or whoever

there is no special cathexis with mini fried donuts (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:55 (thirteen years ago)

Fellaini does tend to go missing a lot and playing him behind the striker for United would be ridiculous but United have needed a defensive midfielder who can actually tackle for years. There are better ones than Fellaini out there but I'm pretty sure he was linked to United earlier in the season anyway?

They'd do better with someone like Bender or Sandro really. (xpost)

Matt DC, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:56 (thirteen years ago)

Strootman has been the most heavily linked not that that means anything. Nothing means anything anymore

Number None, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:58 (thirteen years ago)

as far as transfer policy goes, i think my favourite outcome would be that he sells a key player over the summer and then does nothing else until an hour before the transfer deadline when he signs someone from belgium no one has heard of. or wherever the new belgium is now that place is getting overexposed, slovenia maybe.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 9 May 2013 11:59 (thirteen years ago)

I think Moyes will attempt to sign whoever Fergie's targets were, unless Fergie retired because he was told he couldn't get them.

The Parvenu Fucktard (onimo), Thursday, 9 May 2013 12:00 (thirteen years ago)

― Matt DC, Thursday, 9 May 2013 12:56 (2 minutes ago)

this is one of those talksport truisms but one of ferguson's best insights in recent years was buying carrick instead of a makelélé type in 2006b back when they were all the rage, then initiating his best ever team with a midfield of scholes/carrick

there is no special cathexis with mini fried donuts (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 9 May 2013 12:01 (thirteen years ago)

could kinda see him going for james mccarthy

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 12:02 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that seems plausible

Number None, Thursday, 9 May 2013 12:03 (thirteen years ago)

which one is his best ever team? xposts

bebe needs some support too, maybe get bryan oviedo in

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 May 2013 12:05 (thirteen years ago)

the best team was 07/08 by which time they were 433 and did use more orthodox dmids more often (hargreaves, fletcher, anderson even played there)

still, 06/07 was beautiful
