Moyes, then

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:39 (thirteen years ago)

cut from same cloth

Tartan?

Number None, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:40 (thirteen years ago)

Moyes is a pretty big gamble imo.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:40 (thirteen years ago)

Moyes

al leong the watchtower (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

Did they run out of cloth

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

I fear that means Klopp, not Moyes

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:45 (thirteen years ago)

Though I find it hard to believe they've lined him up already

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:45 (thirteen years ago)

yeah moyes is a massive gamble. would think that is solely fergie's decision

thought about klopp but "cut from the same cloth" would be stretching it somewhat no

wonder if pep turned them down before bayern, seems an oversight not to have spoken to him if this was in the works

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:46 (thirteen years ago)

would be lol if moyes got there to find the glazers embarking on a new era of fiscal probity

don't imagine he'd have got the rvp deal greenlighted for instance

David Cameron ‏@David_Cameron 16m
Sir Alex Ferguson’s achievement at #MUFC has been exceptional. Hopefully his retirement will make life a little easier for my team #AVFC

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:51 (thirteen years ago)

oh fuck off

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:56 (thirteen years ago)

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:57 (thirteen years ago)

martinez to everton 5/2, can i be bovd to open an account tho

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:59 (thirteen years ago)

Villa is what the focus group came up with

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:59 (thirteen years ago)

Knew I should have waited til 2014 before buying an arsenal shirt

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:04 (thirteen years ago)

I've had DJ Sven and MC Miker G on repeat since talk of Eriksson and Phelan came up. Soundtracking the day perfectly imo, they even did Celebration Rap as a follow up.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:04 (thirteen years ago)

Prince William is a Villa fan too I believe. There is some sort of reason Old Etonians support Villa.

Bees Against Racism (Tom D.), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:04 (thirteen years ago)

Moyes to MUFC to be a scapegoat not allowed to spend any money, just like at Everton but with fan expectations that ruin him

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:05 (thirteen years ago)

... I point you in the direction of the extended sequence at a Villa match in Henry Green's "Living"... and not for the first time either (xp)

Nostalgia for the pecking order of the 1890s

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:08 (thirteen years ago)

Good timing by Fergie, it knocks the Queen's Speech off its perch at the top of the headlines. Govan Labour Party will be pleased, brothers

William chose Villa because it was "in the middle of the country"

You can get 20/1 for Laudrup to EFC.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:16 (thirteen years ago)

Ah, my Old Etonian theory bites the dust! Don't know what public school Nigel Kennedy went to tho. (xp)

Yehudi Menuin School of Music

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:20 (thirteen years ago)

Just struck me that there's an entire generation of people for whom Fergie has always been the Man U manager.

you say potatooles (onimo), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:20 (thirteen years ago)

Yup, loads of GET INVOLVEDs to that effect

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:21 (thirteen years ago)

Jol to everton

al leong the watchtower (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:22 (thirteen years ago)

I don't want to GET INVOLVED in all that. Feeling like a dinosaur because I can remember other United managers and remember Fergie at other clubs.

you say potatooles (onimo), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:23 (thirteen years ago)

Mourinho to Utd
Laudrup to Chelsea
Moyes stays at Everton and his cold hard stare gets a fraction wider

you say potatooles (onimo), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:25 (thirteen years ago)

"Jose Mourinho has been installed as favourite to take over from Ferguson by bookmakers" says the BBC. Er, which bookies would they be? You can't get better than 3/10 on Moyes. Some sites are 1/8. Jose out at 3 or 4.

Moyes to go out with two defeats, a 7th-place finish and a loop of those four minutes vs Wigan running in his head.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:26 (thirteen years ago)

Mick McCarthy back to the epl in some capacity

al leong the watchtower (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:29 (thirteen years ago)

so not gonna happen

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:29 (thirteen years ago)

Feeling like a dinosaur because I can remember other United managers and remember Fergie at other clubs.

my induction into football, aged 6, was undertaken not by watching it but by collecting the Panini stickers for the 86-87 season, and memorising all the stats in the book. as such, for me Big Ron was the manager for that season come what may. I was kind of a weird kid

congo nattefrost (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:37 (thirteen years ago)

I met Big Ron once. It was a Preston v WBA League Cup replay in 1980. My mate's dad was linesman (and flagged offside what would've been a late Preston winner). Ron signed my programme and asked if I wanted "the standard signature or the one I use on the big cheques?"

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:53 (thirteen years ago)

Ha xp, I love how that works. Big Ron'll always be Man Utd manager for you, just as Brighton and Notts County'll always be top clubs for me.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 10:56 (thirteen years ago)

Sir Alex Ferguson broke down in tears during an emotional goodbye to Manchester United staff this morning following the announcement of his decision to retire, Goal.com can reveal.

Once the entire first-team squad had arrived for training, Ferguson held an eight-minute meeting with the players and senior staff during where he informed them of his decision.

Sources say the players were "quiet and shocked" as they left the meeting, with some clearly emotional. Ferguson was the last man out of the room and was seen supportively patting assistant manager Mike Phelan on the back.

At 9.20am, around the same time that United made an official announcement on their website, Ferguson went to the main dining hall at Carrington to address the entire staff, from the tea ladies to the coaches.

The atmosphere was described as "pensive" and "sombre". By then, everyone knew what was going on.

During a speech that lasted between eight and 10 minutes, Ferguson choked up and became tearful as he thanked them for their support over the years and spoke of the wonderful support within the "United family".

Ferguson became particularly emotional as he revealed that some people present - particularly technical staff - may lose their jobs as a consequence of his retirement.

After he finished talking, Ferguson received a standing ovation as he shuffled out of the room, still clearly emotional as he brings an end to an extraordinary career at United since he took over from Ron Atkinson in November 1986.

He was scheduled to hold a one-on-one sit-down interview with the club’s in-house television station, MUTV, at 10.30am and it was unclear whether he still intends to join the United players at Chester races later today.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 11:08 (thirteen years ago)

if it wasn't for webb fergie would have retired about 327 minutes earlier.

I met Big Ron once. It was a Preston v WBA League Cup replay in 1980. My mate's dad was linesman (and flagged offside what would've been a late Preston winner). Ron signed my programme and asked if I wanted "the standard signature or the one I use on the big cheques?"

met lawro before in a restaurant in dublin, when i was a kid. piers brosnan was at the next table.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 11:10 (thirteen years ago)

a friend of mine was once called up by Ron Atkinson trying to order a suit, he swears he introduced himself as "Big Ron"
