people are banging on about Ferguson being the greatest manager of all time but he's never even won the Europa Cup which puts him well below Rafa to my mind

Fergie goin on deadpool 2014 for sure

al leong the watchtower (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 08:44 (thirteen years ago)

It pleases me that his last real game is a scrappy loss to Rafa

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 08:47 (thirteen years ago)

Wau.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 08:48 (thirteen years ago)

Mourinho 6/4
Moyes 6/4
Klopp 16/1
Solskjaer 33/1
Beckham 33/1

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 08:51 (thirteen years ago)

the sudden nature of this suggests mourinho to me

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 08:53 (thirteen years ago)

mourinho is the only one i can see continuing the reign of terror

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 08:53 (thirteen years ago)

You'd think so, but objectively how attractive a job is it? On one view it's the biggest job going, but it's still a relatively crappy squad.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:00 (thirteen years ago)

so many heartbroken cornishmen phoning up 5 Live

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:00 (thirteen years ago)

The real big news is that Arsenal have apparently signed a new kit deal with Puma for 30m a season starting 2014... what's that, something else is going on?

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:00 (thirteen years ago)

£30m?! That outmoneys everyone iirc.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:02 (thirteen years ago)

Really hope next season is somehow some mad free for all now, but instead Mourinho will come back and suck the life out of everything that isn't his own press conferences

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:02 (thirteen years ago)

Yep, biggest deal in english football if true... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-agree-puma-kit-deal-1874661

No lie, that was my first thought.

It pleases me that his last real game is a scrappy loss to Rafa

Probably the moment he realised he had to go.

you say potatooles (onimo), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:05 (thirteen years ago)

Hm, with that and the sponsorship step-up, this does change the playing field quite a bit.

How swag are puma kits though?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:05 (thirteen years ago)

fuck off about arsenal this is the day of all days

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:07 (thirteen years ago)

God this is like Thatcher dying all over again.

Haha imagine being Roman Abramovich and seeing yr managerial shortlist just evaporate again.

Get the feeling this is the point at which being owned by the Glazers could really fuck United. No manager is going to have the luxury that Ferguson have and a couple of short-termist decisions coupled with failing to back the manager properly could lead to a string of managers in a relatively short period of time. Could Mourinho manage on the sort of financial constraints the Glazers have imposed?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:08 (thirteen years ago)

Ferguson will be desperately trying to sell Rooney before the end of the season now.

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:11 (thirteen years ago)

Swag? Um... http://soccerlens.com/files/2010/08/Spurs_Home_kit_10_11_Puma.jpg

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:12 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yeah, the Spurs one was nice. I was thinking of that range of tight numbers puma did a couple of African Cup of Nationses ago - not sure that'd work on a team of spindly wimps though.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:15 (thirteen years ago)

How dare you, Gervinho looked magnificent

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:16 (thirteen years ago)

i was there... the day kit deal transferred from liverpool to arsenal... 4th spot will never be the same again

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:17 (thirteen years ago)

He's not dead you know

RIP kit deal

you say potatooles (onimo), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:19 (thirteen years ago)

So does the next manager at Old Trafford retain Fergie's powers? Or does Fergie time just stop now?

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:20 (thirteen years ago)

Arsenal have been a pretty big part of the Nike strategy in recent years - this does raise questions about their preëminence in the sportswear market imo.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:21 (thirteen years ago)

people are seriously suggesting mike phelan on twitter

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:26 (thirteen years ago)

Fergie goin upstairs, lol disaster

al leong the watchtower (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:28 (thirteen years ago)

He spent years doing the post-match interviews, so

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:29 (thirteen years ago)

Rafa to take over, Ferguson back in by Christmas

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:30 (thirteen years ago)

That puma deal though

Is it 'pooma' or 'pyooma'?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:33 (thirteen years ago)

sportingintelligence @sportingintel
#mufc sources say successor announcement "soon", and "he'll be cut from same cloth as Ferguson and Busby, and believe in youth development"

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:37 (thirteen years ago)

Xp The latter, but almost imperceptibly so imo.

oppet, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:37 (thirteen years ago)

Moyes, then

Koné 2013 (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:39 (thirteen years ago)

cut from same cloth

Tartan?

Number None, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:40 (thirteen years ago)

Moyes is a pretty big gamble imo.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:40 (thirteen years ago)

Moyes

al leong the watchtower (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

Did they run out of cloth

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

I fear that means Klopp, not Moyes

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:45 (thirteen years ago)

Though I find it hard to believe they've lined him up already

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:45 (thirteen years ago)

yeah moyes is a massive gamble. would think that is solely fergie's decision

thought about klopp but "cut from the same cloth" would be stretching it somewhat no

wonder if pep turned them down before bayern, seems an oversight not to have spoken to him if this was in the works

r|t|c, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 09:46 (thirteen years ago)

would be lol if moyes got there to find the glazers embarking on a new era of fiscal probity

don't imagine he'd have got the rvp deal greenlighted for instance
