southern lancashire in partic.
i mean not that it matters. this is a terrible show about wizards that i don't even like and i only watch because everyone else does and i never post on this thread although the episode last week was good and i liked it when they blew up the boats.

but i like the febrile energy of max's article
― caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:10 (thirteen years ago)
As an American all I get is a southern gentleman out of littlefinger in a few random words and am nodding along blankly to all the other accent stuff you're all going on about.
― Evan, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:19 (thirteen years ago)
It's a bit Welsh, I thought? Or am I not hearing it right? It is a very strange accent.
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:24 (thirteen years ago)
Well it'll be like one emphasized word per every three lines that give me that impression.
― Evan, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:27 (thirteen years ago)
i think part of the problem is he's clearly reaching for a deeper voice than he naturally has, plus he seems like like he's not naturally an accent guy
― caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:33 (thirteen years ago)
welsh would be "correct" in some sense, since he's from the vale and theoretically vale accents = welsh
― max, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:34 (thirteen years ago)
i think in a weird way his accent is worse or more distracting than dinklage's, because he seems to have something specific in mind that he's trying to do, where as dinklage hardly bothers these days
― caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:37 (thirteen years ago)
I had no idea Dinklage's was so weak. USA! USA!
― Evan, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:39 (thirteen years ago)
from what i can tell dinklage's "accent" is basically just dropping his Rs and opening up his As a little bit
― max, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:39 (thirteen years ago)
it's Victor Meldrew I think
― random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 6 May 2013 19:41 (thirteen years ago)
Americans will get that reference
did littlefinger do all that growling stuff in earlier seasons? i've definitely noticed it more this season.
― caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:41 (thirteen years ago)
"and opening up his As a little bit"
Had to double take
― Evan, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:47 (thirteen years ago)
Ronan called him Irish Dracula and now that's all I can think of any time he speaks.
― The last of the famous international Greyjoys (Nicole), Monday, 6 May 2013 19:58 (thirteen years ago)
I think Dinklage is just doing Stewie from the Family Guy.
― schwantz, Monday, 6 May 2013 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah I think it's been getting more pronounced the further in we've gone. Don't recall thinking anything in particular about Gillen's accent in the first series.

for all we know this could be a middle earth type deal where in the reality of the story the common tongue sounds nothing like english but for our convenience it does

osha actress was in About A Boy and I still think, "good on her, doing more things". Although she was in Harry Potter as well now that I think of it.
― Gukbe, Monday, 6 May 2013 23:58 (thirteen years ago)
Also realised last night that the torturer of Theon is from Misfits, which puts that show at 2, tying it with Skins.
― Gukbe, Monday, 6 May 2013 23:59 (thirteen years ago)
cool ep, boss speech from littlefinger which i hereby vow never to paraphrase irl
ricky n bianca at the end didnt feel so cheesy mainly cos as soon as you see the show lay it on thick with hope now then you immediately wince for the expected tragedy
have literally no idea abt theon's torturer ("bolton's bastard"? when was he previously referred to?) but those scenes are boring now, get on with it
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:01 (thirteen years ago)
oh and bring the podrick subplot back for the love of god i cant handle any more of jon snow muff diving
srsly thought he was gonna save her by jamming his tongue in the ice or something

Nathalie Emmanuel was in Misfits and Hollyoaks

I don't actually watch it that much honest

The one who was locked in the big empty vault at the end of S2? Tbh I figured there would be some ex-Hollyoaks actors being fed into the minor-role-nudity machine.

did jon snow introduce Cunnilingus to just the wildlings, or some larger part of the seven kingdoms?

Wait, I thought "Cunnilingus" was a place, now I'm totally lost.
― Evan, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 02:34 (thirteen years ago)
Jon Snow INVENTED cunnilingus.
Really wish they'd cast a better actor, because I'm not feeling any chemistry from his end with the Jon/Ygritte ship.

I'll tell you what I do like, and that's Tywin and Olenna. In fact, I like Tywin and anyone (especially if their meetings didn't happen in the books, cos then it's like some kind of fantasy scenario).
― Gregor Sansa (Leee), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 04:10 (thirteen years ago)
Olenna so far has just been a series of one-on-one conversations with everyone in King's Landing. All she needs is Joffrey for the complete set.
― Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 04:51 (thirteen years ago)
But Varys is right, too: Chaos is a pit. Sometimes instability and uncertainty are not your friends. So let’s talk about Ros and the cruel and abrupt way her story was snuffed out. I’m sickened but not surprised by how little Joffrey and Littlefinger regarded her life. Woman, prostitute: These are not categories of people that either of these men have much feeling for. But I am surprised by how cheaply the creators of the show valued her — especially since she’s the one major character wholly created for it.Since the death of Ned Stark, we all know that menace simmers just below the surface of every conversation, every meal, and every courtly turn about the palace grounds. Like Tywin, the pitiless plot machine of Game of Thrones does not discriminate: Everyone is in peril, all the time. And sometimes, the oblique view is the fresher view; not every big moment needs to be underlined by crashing music and dragonfire and High Valyrian. But dispatching Ros under a voice-over, and then using the image of her violent death as a preamble to Sansa’s weeping, felt reprehensible. Ros’s arrow-pierced body is Arya’s target-practice effigy come to life — or death, as the case may be. Her eyes glassy, her face turned away from us, the camera lingers in the room long after Joffrey has left, to run itself along her corpse in its filmy dress. In an episode that already had one stomach-churning scene of shocking, needless torture, did this one accomplish anything new?
I thought the way it was done was more shocking and fitting for the way people viewed Ros.
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 05:09 (thirteen years ago)
Am I right in thinking that Ros was totally innocent and the spy who blew Littlefinger's plan was actually Shae?
