for me what made the Sixth Sense line was that it was supposed to be this super high class restaurant, but the waiter made a kind of mean joke to a customer and seemed kind of immediately embarrassed and regretful about it.

i was glad they didnt go for a zingy sitcom line and just had jack glare at him & dude scoot off embarrassed

and what, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

would never want to have this dessert at Serendipity, would totally have this dessert at a restaurant named Plunder.

"topped with 25 karat gold"

Tina Fey's narrative bonsai (I DIED), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:56 (seventeen years ago)

Once customers have savored the delicacy, they get to keep the golden spoon and $300 Baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet.

So the actual sundae costs less than $700. Reasonable!

lindseykai, Friday, 13 February 2009 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

fuck the goblet, pour it in my hand for $700

cutty, Friday, 13 February 2009 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

when are you gonna axe out that sexy mr magoo

^ this & patron saint of judgmental statues made me lol

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 13 February 2009 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

Imagine a dessert for two, Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream in a pool of cognac, drizzled in the world's most expensive chocolate, Amadei Porcelana, covered with shaved white, black, and clear truffles, topped with edible 25-carat gold leaf.

^ forgot about the clear truffles

Tina Fey's narrative bonsai (I DIED), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:42 (seventeen years ago)

Prayer bit was so so brilliant.

Not the real Village People, Friday, 13 February 2009 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

"Clear truffles" -- there is a density of jokes in this thing that makes me want to pause after each line and repeat the words to myself. I'd guess this is one of the things that keeps it from being more popular, actually -- it doesn't even give you time to laugh at the jokes. Somewhere between the moment of getting it and the moment of it really sinking in, another joke comes along and supplants it.

(There were at least a dozen things in this last episode that I thought were super-hilarious; I doubt I could remember more than four of them now.)

nabisco, Friday, 13 February 2009 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

the awesome thing about this show is that it seems like no matter how amny people love this, there's no one who comes in with the seemingly-inevitable "it's not all that" challops afaik (except that tracy morgan hater a couple months ago who was essentially just trolling)

some black dude (k3vin k.), Friday, 13 February 2009 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

yeah. the closest anyone gets to complaining is "omg, this one episode had about 2 minutes where it wasn't as good as the impossibly high standards i hold it to, it was just 'very good' instead."

"I know love at first sight when I see it. I saw it when I met Angie, and I saw it the first time Dotcom laid eyes on Grizz's fiancee."

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 13 February 2009 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

oh and as everyone already pointed out "stop showing off Dot Com" is just O_O

some black dude (k3vin k.), Friday, 13 February 2009 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

Wait, so you guys are forgetting the day that o. nate and I bitched about how the show is too "writerly" or whatever?

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Friday, 13 February 2009 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

oh i do remember that now. still think it's 100% rong; being 'writerly' is one of its best qualities imo

some black dude (k3vin k.), Friday, 13 February 2009 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

i was confused by the show at first, because it didn't seem to have a fixed tone. the jokes came at me from so many angles it was hard to process (didn't like tracy/jane at first cuz the comedy was so broad relative to tina/alec). over time, this has become on of my favorite things about the show.

shot on film, this is also the cause of the breaks every few weeks.

1) this show is not shot on film
2) why would being shot on film cause a break every few weeks?
3) what break every few weeks?

caek, Saturday, 14 February 2009 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

lol a cascade of RONG

Jewish Lager (k3vin k.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 02:58 (seventeen years ago)

lollll the way the music fades when jack goes into explaining what the best dessert in the world actually is! it's the little things that count

Jewish Lager (k3vin k.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 07:08 (seventeen years ago)

hahaha i KNEW there was something more to liz saying "it'll be ok, so you'll go to church with elisa and then you'll go to plunder"

Jewish Lager (k3vin k.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 07:31 (seventeen years ago)

and wtf at elisa grabbing the coupon out of the collection basket

Jewish Lager (k3vin k.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 07:32 (seventeen years ago)

ok apparently im the only one who didnt immediately get the plunder thing

Jewish Lager (k3vin k.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 07:36 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't exactly GET "Plunder" but every time

josephcharles, Saturday, 14 February 2009 07:52 (seventeen years ago)

sheesh

"Plunder" just sounded dirty to me and Tinafey confirmed as much reacting to the Plunder desert.

josephcharles, Saturday, 14 February 2009 07:53 (seventeen years ago)

there's nothing to get. plunder is a word that is found in real dictionaries other than URBAN dictionary. you either know what it means or you don't.

i thought it was a jack nicholson reference but did they do that on desperate housewives?

Yo, I just copped dat brand new Manity Kane cd. (M@tt He1ges0n), Saturday, 14 February 2009 22:20 (seventeen years ago)

(britisher) That or it's a Kat/Zoe reference. But that seems unlikely. (/britisher)

raaaaaaaaaah (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 14 February 2009 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

ha yeah it was a relatively short arc but the daughter of one of the housewives had a babby and her mother did the 'pretend it's hers' thing. like all things on that show, it turned out to be stupid and inconsequential, i wish i could stop watching it

xpost

Jewish Lager (k3vin k.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

You're all over-thinking this, clearly it's a Sarah Palin reference, you know TINA FEY WINK WINK MAVERICK.

Leee, Saturday, 14 February 2009 22:44 (seventeen years ago)

i loved the Generalissimo episode very much - liz drugging dr baird was a little eye roll but jack as the Generalissimo is classic for all time. i think the best throwaway line was about tracy getting serious and playing arthur ashe lolll
