there has to be a comma between oh and wrinklepaws and it has to be in all lowercase, no period

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 03:00 (twenty years ago)

and certainly no fucking exclamation point, you idiot

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 03:01 (twenty years ago)

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 03:06 (twenty years ago)

Anywho, they came to me because they know I read a lot of mp3 blogs like ILM and Stereogum. I suggested that they send out music samples to all the major tastemakers, which they did -- but no response as of yet.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 03:08 (twenty years ago)

I think they should do it as Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, and CYHSY are all prominently featured and they are looking to do a similar grassroots viral DIY thing to get label attention.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 03:08 (twenty years ago)

to be honest i am glad i had the privilege of growing up in england, not scotland, otherwise i could have had a cultural life that consisted entirely of tennents super, sectarian football hooliganism and heroin.

The best bit of the thread was later than that when the woman that runs Scenestars turned up and started getting really pissy. It was one of the few times when everyone on ILM was united--even if only against her.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 08:26 (twenty years ago)

haha yeah!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 20:42 (twenty years ago)

maybe we can post another thread about scenestars?

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 20:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm really upset that the thread got deleted before the true insanity of Miss Scenestars dressed as the evil queen from Snow White finally sunk in.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Ok, I admit it. I've fallen victim to the hype. I really love the CYHSY. I even wrote them an email begging to get a pass into their sold out show in Amsterdam back in February, to no avail. They played SXSW but I had a previous engagement. They're scheduled to play my birthday in Nashville on April 21st - they can make it up to me for not getting me into their show in Holland by inviting me to the show at my old stomping ground, Vanderbilt University. I discovered the internet in their computer lab back in 1993. ICQ anyone?

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 20:48 (twenty years ago)

However, Chris from GvB introduced me to Tapes 'n Tapes at SXSW. Not their music, but the actual band. I was immediately drawn to the drummer becasue he looks so much like Jake Vest from Augustine. Anyway, even though I know they are becoming the next over-hyped internet band, they were really cool guys, even though I think I slurred all over them. So, when I got back to Memphis I took the time to check out their 2005 album The Loon. It's all I've been listening to for the past week. It's like a mixture of Modest Mouse, the Pixies and Pavement. It's really good stuff and these guys totally deserve to be overhyped!!!

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Oh wrinklebro

In June you can find Wainwright doing a two night stand at Carnegie Hall in New York City where he plans to perform the entire legendary 1961 Judy Garland concert with an orchestra. Could he be any more gay?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 21:05 (twenty years ago)

is this the new scenestars thread, cleverly hidden on ILE?

After a very long weekend I slept most of the day today and decided against trying to go to the Dino Jr show at the Deli. So at around 10 PM I found myself fully awake and bored. So what did I do? Why, I Googled the ex of course!

I was blown away by what I found.

Last summer he took up blogging.

Don't even bother to try to read it unless you have an advance degree in economics.

(Update: I've read more of it now and it really is very interesting. But it all goes back to my biggest argument against the study of any kind of philosophy, if it isn't directly applicable to your life and you are able to gauge it's real life affects - then wtf is the point, other than to redirect your time into something that keeps you from dealing with your real problems! We can all use just about anything to avoid dealing wih our real everyday problems.)

(her personal blog is so much more mind-numbing: http://www.rachelandthecity.com)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 21:21 (twenty years ago)

You need to put the real address to get the evil queen out've hiding.

http://www.scenestars.net/

I recommend the bands Bobtail Yearling and Arma Sectreta from that there.

Do You Read Blogs?
You should be reading this site:
http://www.projectdu.com/
It compiles the best of the best every day!
and I write for it!
Check it out and link it!!!! So I can make more money!!!

...Participate in Indie Impact Memphis Seminar and Showcase!!

If you are a musician you should really take advantage of this opportunity to network. If there are four people in your band, it's 25 bucks each! Did you read the list? Not only are there a lot of well connected industry people from Memphis attending, there are a lot of people you will probably never have another opportunity to be in the same room with. Don't be a dumbass.

from 'rachel and the city':

"The way that I was laying, I was snuggled into a pillow that blocked them from my view, which I was actually thankful for, but there was no mistaking what was going on. Once the realization hit me, I began going through scenarios in my mind of what I should do. Sit up and scold them? Pretend to continue to sleep? Make a noise so that they know I am awake? Get up and go into the bathroom?

The last idea was sounding pretty good because, of course, I had to pee really bad. I just had to find the courage to stand up and go to the bathroom. While I was looking for it, their whispers became more and more audible, well, at least to me. Client guy would whisper something to chatty girl, which I could clearly hear and in her highest sorority girl voice she kept saying, "What?"

Which made me really want to si up and yell, "He said blah, blah, blah, you stupid bith!." (that was not a typo!)

Instead, what happened next was that client guy said something so lame to chatty girl, that I accidentally cracked up. I immediately recovered and turned it into a cough, but I think the sentiment was understood, because the performance was over. And so, at that point, I did what most people do after sex, I got up and went to the bathroom."

From the Wikipedia entry for The Diplomats:

Slang

Along with their unconventional rhyming style, one of the defining elements of the Diplomats' music is their distinctive slang they have incorporated into their lyrics. Expressions such as "doggie", "Ay!", "no homo", "scooby snacks", "hen fap", "piff," "huff," "u mad?", "move the movement", "off' wit' Ya' Kufi Smacker", "duck tales", "OH WRINKLEPAWS," "family matters", and "coochie rap" are known to have originated in Dipset lyrics. They also coined the greeting, "What's Really Good?", which is often shortened to "Whats good?".

I often feel a lot of sympathy for Tuomas for having to be "the dude known for defending masturbating in front of a baby" right up to the point where I remember that he was defending masturbating in front of a baby.
