it's funny how often these things seem to enact a rhetorical arms race. "you want a hero? i'll show you a HERO!"
particularly in the sense that they're all self-contained little statements--like a thesis that just drops out of the sky and cannot be questioned or conversed with. almost as if there's a platonic ideal of one of these things that will end the maddening proliferation of discourse on the internet.
