75 min: Almost an exact replica of Benteke's second goal. Westwood hangs another corner to the far post for Benteke to attack, only for Cuellar to flick it behind with his hand.

We surrendered EXTREMELY soon to the Germans. Real and Barca should have taken note, appeasement and all that. Stroke them to sleep and then fuck them over tbh

Does this mean it's piss-easy to score 6 against a relegation-threatened side from the North East and not much should be read into it?
― Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Monday, 29 April 2013 22:41 (thirteen years ago)
yes, i think that's about the long and short of it.
alternative reading would say that these villa and liverpool teams are deeply flawed and so have not had good seasons (all relative obv) but that fundamentally they are both capable of eviscerating their opposition by playing flying attacking football. This definitely feels like the case tonight, but who knows what comes next for either side?
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 29 April 2013 23:18 (thirteen years ago)
think villa just made peace with the fact that they won't keep a clean sheet for the rest of the season after the reading game and adjusted their goalscoring intentions appropriately
― random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 29 April 2013 23:32 (thirteen years ago)
The 6-0 was less about Newcastle playing badly - they didn't, they carried a threat right up until the red card - and more about just how good Liverpool were. They would've eviscerated anyone on Saturday. You might as well be saying it's piss-easy to score four at home against a knackered Spanish side that's missing its best Argentine, and that not much should be read into it.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 07:22 (thirteen years ago)
Totally wrong!
― the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 07:31 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah I watched that game and Newcastle were awful.
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 07:33 (thirteen years ago)
Newcastle have good enough attacking players that they will always "carry a threat" but that was one of the worst defensive displays I've seen this season.
Coutinho was amazing though.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 09:16 (thirteen years ago)
Liverpool have spanked teams more than once this season. It's an encouraging change at least.
― Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 11:25 (thirteen years ago)
There was also that weird four weeks or so towards the end of one the late Rafa season when you guys suddenly went mental and started whipping everyone by four goals.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 11:37 (thirteen years ago)
They've scored four or more in the league this season against Norwich (twice), Fulham, Swansea, Wigan and Newcastle. Last season they only managed it once, against Chelsea.
― you say potatooles (onimo), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 11:44 (thirteen years ago)
Clearly a better and more fluid attacking outfit than spurs tbf, is it just the two lads at cb that's the prob or what
― the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 12:05 (thirteen years ago)
I think (cliché alert) it's just that they haven't quite got the balance right in some games. They seem to attempt to play positively every time I see them but some teams won't capitulate in the way Newcastle or Norwich will so they maybe need to draw teams out a bit more. There are results there (like draws with Stoke, West Ham, Reading) that would convince me they could have been closer to Spurs with a bit of luck but then I'm sure Spurs could point to a couple that wouldn't put them far away from Man City.
I said towards the end of last season that scoring a few more goals would see them pick up an extra ten points this season. They've already surpassed last season's total and with three wins can finish eleven points better off.
― you say potatooles (onimo), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 13:12 (thirteen years ago)
my favorite thing about newcastle- liverpool was Steve Nicol doing a preview on espn saying Coutinho was a liability away from home and he didn't see where the goals would come from without Suarez
― mizzell, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 14:04 (thirteen years ago)
That's probably what Alan Pardew thought as well.

Redknapp has a waistcoat. Neville has a striped tie. Souness has a handkerchief. Carra is clearly the new boy wearing the standard uniform and not yet ready to express himself, though the hand in pocket suggests comfort with his new surroundings.
