Beggars can't be choosers Dmac, I bet we won't get more than £17 mil for the boy as it is, Defoe remains criminally underrated xp

Nah thats exactly the same ik

the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Monday, 29 April 2013 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

Jaysus youd struggle to sell him for less than 20m surely?

the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Monday, 29 April 2013 21:26 (thirteen years ago)

Srsly though Deems, I know it remains to be seen how Benteke will do at a top tier club, but he seems pretty decent for Spurs, no?

I mean, I am still amazed no journalist hasn't uncovered yet that Adebayor is actually 43 years old. And a 43 year old nihilist at that. Get a young gun in the centre attacking position and you're good to go.

(Benteke seems suited, Demba Ba would, too, but he chose for lol benching at Chelsea + $$$)

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 29 April 2013 21:26 (thirteen years ago)

Didn't you lot used to get live games on a saturday? When I was growing up that, and the all-Ireland final, made the place seem impossibly exotic.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 29 April 2013 21:27 (thirteen years ago)

I do not for the life of me understand why anyone would want to scatter THE FOOTBALL across several channels. Having to look in your guide to see what match is on where? Criminal.

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 29 April 2013 21:27 (thirteen years ago)

xxxpost Dunno, how much is one good season worth atm? Would love an extravagant payday almost as much as I'd love him to stay tbph

Windsor Davies, Monday, 29 April 2013 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

I hope that my certainty that villa could do a decent deal for the lad wont be misconstrued as a lack of enthusiasm lbi, he'd do nicely

the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Monday, 29 April 2013 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

Not misconstrued, fully understood

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 29 April 2013 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

LBI - I've been trying to make sense of my bill to give you an idea of the costs. I seem to be charged £55.50 a month plus £10 a month for ESPN. I think that £55.50 includes about £10 a month for HD and something tiny (maybe three quid) for a bundle of pointless channels that includes Eurosport (which I need for the cycling coverage). So you're probably looking at about £15ish to have Sky in the first place and about £25ish to have the Sky Sports package. That used to be enough, but then the EU ruled it wasn't competitive enough and said that at least one other broadcaster had to have access to live Prem games. This was A BAD THING because it's based on the total fantasy that all viewers just want to see some football (any old game will do) and will shop around for the best channel to do this, whereas in reality most viewers support a team and want to see every game that team plays (and so have to pay for every channel).

Yeah ik when setanta first got the package we got three pm saturday games each week, rumour had it that some copywriter left out the '& ireland' lol. Setanta was free to air at the time too, beauty

I mean sopcast used be good but its fucked now right

the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Monday, 29 April 2013 21:33 (thirteen years ago)

NBS: you are a legend, thanks! (and I might have given you some insight in your expenses, too)

I need cycling too, so the Eurosport purchase is in the bag. What bugs me is that, if you want the Sky Sports package, you need to purchase Sky Basic first. That doesn't sound right. EU should look into that tbh.

I prefer the Dutch system where you just pay 25 quid to see all matches. On match days (there's mostly three or four matches played simultaneously here), the channel branches out into four channels, so you can flick around, see whatever match you like.

the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Monday, 29 April 2013 21:39 (thirteen years ago)

75 min: Almost an exact replica of Benteke's second goal. Westwood hangs another corner to the far post for Benteke to attack, only for Cuellar to flick it behind with his hand.

Does this mean it's piss-easy to score 6 against a relegation-threatened side from the North East and not much should be read into it?

Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Monday, 29 April 2013 22:41 (thirteen years ago)

yes, i think that's about the long and short of it.

alternative reading would say that these villa and liverpool teams are deeply flawed and so have not had good seasons (all relative obv) but that fundamentally they are both capable of eviscerating their opposition by playing flying attacking football. This definitely feels like the case tonight, but who knows what comes next for either side?

Windsor Davies, Monday, 29 April 2013 23:18 (thirteen years ago)

think villa just made peace with the fact that they won't keep a clean sheet for the rest of the season after the reading game and adjusted their goalscoring intentions appropriately

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 29 April 2013 23:32 (thirteen years ago)

The 6-0 was less about Newcastle playing badly - they didn't, they carried a threat right up until the red card - and more about just how good Liverpool were. They would've eviscerated anyone on Saturday. You might as well be saying it's piss-easy to score four at home against a knackered Spanish side that's missing its best Argentine, and that not much should be read into it.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 07:22 (thirteen years ago)

Totally wrong!

the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 07:31 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah I watched that game and Newcastle were awful.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 07:33 (thirteen years ago)

Newcastle have good enough attacking players that they will always "carry a threat" but that was one of the worst defensive displays I've seen this season.

Coutinho was amazing though.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 09:16 (thirteen years ago)

Liverpool have spanked teams more than once this season. It's an encouraging change at least.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 11:25 (thirteen years ago)

There was also that weird four weeks or so towards the end of one the late Rafa season when you guys suddenly went mental and started whipping everyone by four goals.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 11:37 (thirteen years ago)

They've scored four or more in the league this season against Norwich (twice), Fulham, Swansea, Wigan and Newcastle. Last season they only managed it once, against Chelsea.

you say potatooles (onimo), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 11:44 (thirteen years ago)

Clearly a better and more fluid attacking outfit than spurs tbf, is it just the two lads at cb that's the prob or what

the norman wisdom of gaffers (darraghmac), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 12:05 (thirteen years ago)

I think (cliché alert) it's just that they haven't quite got the balance right in some games. They seem to attempt to play positively every time I see them but some teams won't capitulate in the way Newcastle or Norwich will so they maybe need to draw teams out a bit more. There are results there (like draws with Stoke, West Ham, Reading) that would convince me they could have been closer to Spurs with a bit of luck but then I'm sure Spurs could point to a couple that wouldn't put them far away from Man City.

I said towards the end of last season that scoring a few more goals would see them pick up an extra ten points this season. They've already surpassed last season's total and with three wins can finish eleven points better off.

you say potatooles (onimo), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 13:12 (thirteen years ago)

my favorite thing about newcastle- liverpool was Steve Nicol doing a preview on espn saying Coutinho was a liability away from home and he didn't see where the goals would come from without Suarez

mizzell, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

That's probably what Alan Pardew thought as well.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 14:07 (thirteen years ago)
