iirc bronies are mostly pretty strident/outspoken about their distaste for pre-FIM mlp

just disinterest I would think? make sense that anyone into FIM would get into Powerpuff Girls but not necessarily '80s MLP (unless they actively want to seek ersatz nostalgia)

I remember sitting down with my little girl cousin to watch the old incarnation of MLP in about 2006? and thinking, "damn, this is pretty entertaining."

I've not seen Friendship is Magic, but damn, these guys are...odd. Has anyone come up with a theory as to why so many badly socialized young men are transfixed by this show for young girls?

I have not studied this in depth or anything but my guess is most of them just like being in some community and having something to talk about, sorta dig that they get to be absurdist in a 'look at me' way, don't actually enjoy the cartoons that much or I mean maybe it's moderately entertaining, who knows. and then a few are probably just perverts.
