PARKS and RECREATION aka "Everything's coming up Amy"

according to sepinwall, schur has a co-creator/production partner who will take the lead on it while schur focuses on P&R.

critics have been saying it's almost certainly going to be renewed for another season, as it's the only nbc comedy doing consistently non-terrible numbers.

I was curious, so I looked at the average # of viewers for NBC sitcoms this season, and it shakes out like this:

1. Go On
2. The Office
3. The New Normal
4. Guys with Kids
5. Whitney
6. 30 Rock
7. Parks and Rec
8. Up All Night
9. Community
10. 1600 Penn

That said, apart from the departing 30 Rock and The Office, all of the shows with larger audiences *on average* than Parks and Rec's have aired two to four episodes this season with fewer viewers than P&R's lowest-performing episode. Compared to the majority of NBC's comedy programming -- such as Go On, whose ratings have been on a steady decline ever since its big premiere -- P&R performs very consistently, even if it never reaches beyond about 4 million viewers per episode.

that ranking reflects total viewers and not the adult demo rating, right? if critics are to be believed, the demo is the more significant number (RIP Harry's Law, watched by millions, all of them olds).

Oh -- P&R actually does *better* within the 18-49 demo. Only behind Go On and The Office. How about that.

The Voice lead-in is all they have. It's why they'll only air Revolution after it. They're worried it'll go the way of The Event and every other crap hi-concept drama they've had.

Don't know but I liked that they didn't even try hiding the palm trees.

Judging by how much they film in Burbank id guess they just used the golf course that's on Universal, or next to it; the Toluca Lake one.

Didn't see the episode so I'm not confident but that's where id guess.

Ha! I didn't even notice (or remember, a day later) that that's the name of the place.

speaking of this show's locations, I love how they take that part of Burbank on Riverside Dr, by the Equestrian center, and double it for Indiana. The tall trees obscure that just beyond them is the Griffith Park mountain, and the Hollywood sign on the other side of it. They use Pasadena a lot, too.

Although a friend of mine who lives out in the sticks now, but used to live in LA, loathes the show's doubling and treatment of small town Middle-America, saying that it's all inaccurate and the epitome of what L.A. big city folk imagine it's like in cutesy fly-over parts. That it's condescending.

And to that I say: of course it is, but did you expect, and would people want, Greg Daniels to have created a small-town America show that's HBO comedy depressing? This is for NBC, from the same people that made the Office.

One of the many little things that make this show great is the ever increasing collection of random objects in Ron's office so I loved him refusing to give the gorilla back. How long has the tiny deer skeleton with the antlers been in there?

i know its been said repeatedly but the relationship between ron and lesley is really great. i loved that little speech of hers (i have 6 points to make). really laughed at when she told ron she had only one word for him then goes on a rant with ron counting on his fingers how many words she's actually using.

Pawnee city hall is Pasadena's city hall building. And for those that watch Parenthood, the wedding reception (I think) in the courtyard with the big fountain in the season closer was the courtyard of the same building.

I love P&R so much, it really brightens my week. Someone mentioned above how it has a Simpsons-like cast of characters, which is part of what makes it so good. Including Mona Lisa!

yeah, must have been a set. I guess they probably just dressed up a real golf course. it looked cool! a lot nicer than the ones in sherman oaks or ventura.

ron needs more to do so that will be fantastic. same with the 'recall knope' campaign, as obv leslie is better when she's the underdog against bad people. hopefully april goes to vet university and takes andy with her.

Torn between whether Tom's mystery business rival is Dennis Feinstein, Councilman Jamm or Jean-Ralphio. Jamm is probably the least funny scenario here.

i'd imagine it's either feinstein or some new character, could imagine that in addition to giving tom an antagonist and on-going storyline they conceived this plot as a way to write in more appearances from jason mantzoukas.

my guess is they have no idea who it is yet, and they're waiting to see if the show gets picked up for certain. I don't mind them leaving it open-ended like this, kind of like what they did when Leslie started to run for town councilman. then again Entertainment 720 was kind of a dud storyline when they eventually picked it up

entertainment 720 felt to me like the show was trying to challenge itself by dropping a huge bomb at the end of one series and working out what to do with it later, but they then seemed to have freaked themselves out and backed away from it quick sticks.

"sources close to the production" say it has been renewed for Season 6.
