ugh that lumineers thread sounds awful, part of this trend on ilm of weirdly looking down on ppl who aren't record geeks or music obsessives and therefore surely can't be getting as much (or even more, since yknow they have actual lives to be enriched and illuminated by art) from music or appreciate as much as yr average freelance loser.

xpost brimstead, do you find the kneejerk hatred of "twee" music misogynistic -- is that what you are referring to? because i agree with you, but i don't think people on that thread, specifically, were making that point and when someone linked to an article about indie rock being "neutered" by the mumfordeers most people reacted against that article. i do think a good thread could be made of the conflation between authenticity and masculinity which haunts a lot of peoples' thinking on the topic.

Wow, this exact same thing happened to me (except it wasn't my sister, just a work friend of my wife's), and I was all indignant about this terrible butchering of the song, so much so that when I came home I looked it up and found to my dismay that this tinny little abomination is universally beloved by sophisticates and the masses alike, as the reaction here shows -- well, all i can say is that judy garland is shdh at all of you.
