i still haven't heard the lumineers thankfully, the only mumford & sons i've heard was that 'hold on hope' (which i actually thought was coldplay at first and didn't mind for coldplay) and then like ten seconds of that stupid little lion head song.

god that reminds me one of my sisters got married a little under a year ago and she used that damn israel kamakawiwo'ole 'under the rainbow/what a wonderful world' to walk down the aisle and it was all i could do to contain myself during 'if anyone objects to this marriage let them speak now or forever hold their peace' and not stand up and register my dissent to the fucking music.

xpost brimstead, do you find the kneejerk hatred of "twee" music misogynistic -- is that what you are referring to? because i agree with you, but i don't think people on that thread, specifically, were making that point and when someone linked to an article about indie rock being "neutered" by the mumfordeers most people reacted against that article. i do think a good thread could be made of the conflation between authenticity and masculinity which haunts a lot of peoples' thinking on the topic.

Wow, this exact same thing happened to me (except it wasn't my sister, just a work friend of my wife's), and I was all indignant about this terrible butchering of the song, so much so that when I came home I looked it up and found to my dismay that this tinny little abomination is universally beloved by sophisticates and the masses alike, as the reaction here shows -- well, all i can say is that judy garland is shdh at all of you.
