the gowls are not what they seem (darraghmac), Monday, 15 April 2013 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

di canio so far: unfortunate loss to european champions, 3-0 away win at hated rivals

saints have been phenomenal - the EPL finally has its Villareal (if Swansea weren't already - but Soton appear to have more grit)

Winningest franchise club of the day (imago), Monday, 15 April 2013 22:26 (thirteen years ago)

Match of the Day 2 showed us that the reaction to Paolo has already passed from MASSIVELY CONTROVERSIAL FIGURE to QUITE A CHARACTER INNEE.

the gowls are not what they seem (darraghmac), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 00:54 (thirteen years ago)

dude, i feel like you want to imagine a world where speech/thought is absolutely free and therefore free of consequence. i don't want to suggest that every word somebody says is unremoveably tied to an objective truth which equals their unremoveable belief about lyfe, but if i publicly say "person X = vermin" then i've said it, and i've either got to explain in detail why i don't believe that or i have to accept that that's my publicly stated opinion. if people quote me on it, i can either deny it in detail or i'm accepting that's what i believe. if i work with any human beings ever then i have to accept that i've called them vermin if they fall into my original statement.

either you think it's okay for people to work under a boss who denies their own humanity or you don't. if you do, i don't understand how you think there isn't an implicit threat or an implicit prejudice there.

life went on, sadly (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 01:04 (thirteen years ago)

Nah look i dont doubt you believe all that and would absolutely feel the need to explain it yrself or have it explained to you, and look rightly so im not lauding the murkiness of pdc's sidestep. I just amnt so sure football cares, or will do if he starts winning and keeps his nose clean thereafter, yknow?

also im unsure how explicitly he vermined anyone but that could be my memory tbh

the gowls are not what they seem (darraghmac), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 01:12 (thirteen years ago)

i've said before that Paolo's "fascism" has layers of complication but having aligned himself with an ideology that's heavily associated with racism how is it okay for him to work without his employers calling him to account for his racism?

life went on, sadly (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 01:17 (thirteen years ago)

He explicitly stated he's not racist he's fascist! Cmon you know this'll wash if he wins the next one by two goals!

the gowls are not what they seem (darraghmac), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 01:19 (thirteen years ago)

i think he's excused/explained himself about as much as he can/will. just saying that you can't blame people with bad experiences of fascism for refusing to let it go, or dismissing it as banter.

life went on, sadly (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 01:21 (thirteen years ago)

Im not tho, but im hazarding that this will not be a hugely significant faction.

What other current epl managers do we reckon have dodgeologies? Bet pardew has summit juicy

Lineker's a class act, if somewhat unlikeable. Also he'll get taken down for something or other eventually. A Chinese restaurant I used to frequent in Birmingham had a big signed photo of him eating there. There was another celebrity in the shot but I can't remember who it was, I want to say Willie Thorne but it can't have been surely.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:00 (thirteen years ago)

lol #BPLonNBC

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

Lineker is big mates with Willie Thorne iirc

Sarushima baby jive (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:07 (thirteen years ago)

xp Gary Linker and Willie Thorne are best friends.

Eyeball Kicks, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:07 (thirteen years ago)

I knew that, I meant real life surely wouldn't've been so kind as to give me pictorial evidence of the fact. Though now in my mind they were grinning and doing that post-bear-hug thing, while Willie tousles Gary's locks.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:14 (thirteen years ago)

obv wouldn't work the other way round

Sarushima baby jive (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:14 (thirteen years ago)

oh and in case you don't check wikipedia thread

At a 2011 gig at the University of East Anglia, Ocean Colour Scene were joined on stage by former footballer Dion Dublin, an amateur percussionist, who accompanied them on The Dube, an instrument he invented.[10][11]

Good bit of bile brewing here tonight. I've sent my dad along to this weekend's double-header, glad to see it's getting a bit of life about it.
